Go see August Rush NOW

November 27, 2007 by Amy

I came through the door, sat down to watch the rest of house and now sitting down to tell all you lovely people that this movie was worth my NINE dollars to see it. It was great, fabulous, wonderful, touching, beautiful, romantic, sweet, amazing, unique, heartwarming, heartwrenching, breathtaking…should I stop now? Do you get it? You need to go see this!

In the first few minutes of the movie I was rolling my eyes. I really actually hate Hallmark type movies. I don’t like when movies make me cry. I have enough drama, thankyouverymuch. But the scene when you realize that’s the moment his parents met. And the writing was almost poetic. The tension and chemistry was palpable.  For me, this was a love story. I was hooked. I wanted them together. When they woke up, that picture of them is stuck in my head. Both so beautiful and perfectly lying there together. And then she leaves and when he runs down the street after her and you realize she wasn’t just another one night stand for a rocker, he wanted her. He knew she was the one and he was in pain because she had just walked out of his life.

And then there’s Evan. The poor little boy that was left alone and abused and the whole time his mother wanted him. How dare her father lie to her like that. What courage of him to leave and he is so talented. Yes, it was far-fetched that he was composing like that so quickly but somehow it worked. You wanted to believe he was a genius and he really could do all that. The music through the movie was absolutely gorgeous. I even like the stuff the father did. In fact, I want the soundtrack to this movie.

My only complaint about this movie is there wasn’t enough. Yes, they found each other and yes you knew that they all knew they had found each other but I needed that confirmation. Something more than holding hands and a smile. Some cheesy line to him that he was theirs or they had finally found each other or something! I needed a close up kiss or a hug or a teary reunion. Or even family photos during the credits. Something.

That being said, it’s still worth it. I will be buying this movie when it comes out and definitely recommend it.

On a very side note, I loved seeing Keri Russell again. It totally was a throwback to her Felicity days even though her character wasn’t like her, I just love Keri’s acting. She says so much with just her looks and I love it. So great job, Keri!
