Compassion International

February 11, 2008 by Amy 2 Comments

If you live under a blogging rock, you may not know that there is a blogging team headed to Uganda on behalf of Compassion International. I’ve written on our involvement with Compassion before so I won’t rehash it but I’ll say I highly recommend it. For just $32 a month, you can sponsor a child and communicate with the child through letters and even a visit if you choose in the future. The gifts are tax deductible and you can get it drafted out of your account and you never miss it but to a child somewhere in the world, it means the world.

I’ve added a button on my right sidebar if you want more information.

Grammy Awards Reaction

February 10, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

I didn’t watch every single second but I thought there were a few moments worthy of mention.

  • First and foremost, Amy Winehouse can sing, but the girl did the potty dance her whole performance.  Watch it again with that in mind and it will provide several minutes of funny. *Update…I think she no longer had to pee when she won.  That was one awkward acceptance speech.  Wow.
  • Carrie Underwood rocks.  Her voice was amazing tonight, especially at the end.
  • Kanye West’s mama song moved me but boy, that man is whiny.  Anyone notice the complaint about the music coming on during his acceptance speech?
  • I have a new appreciation for Bebe Winans.  He is effortless wonderful.
  • Rihanna’s choreography and dancers were awesome.
  • Very sad Daughtry didn’t win 🙁

Sunday Scripture

February 10, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Psalms 37:7-11

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.

For evil men will be cut off,
but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.

A little while, and the wicked will be no more;
though you look for them, they will not be found.

But the meek will inherit the land
and enjoy great peace.

This morning I didn’t teach Sunday School.  I thought there was a chance I’d be at the beach with Mom and Dad so I had a senior volunteer to teach in my place although I ended up really talking most of the time.  We are in a series on the Beatitudes (see Matthew 5).  Then this afternoon I’m reading my Bible in 90 days section in Psalms and come across verse 11 where it says “the meek will inherit the land” and I was all, hey, that sound like the Beatitudes.  And guess what? the notation beside it says Mt 5:5 so there ya go.

I don’t take any multiple encounters with Scripture or lesson as a coincidence and since I don’t know of any situations I have right now that require meekness, it makes me wonder what’s coming!

*Update*

As I typed this, I got a txt from one of the youth that is in both my Sunday School class and in my Bible Study group saying “Ur lesson this morning and 2nite really meant something 2 me & i fixed something i nvr thought would b fixed so thank you” Don’t you love the txt shorthand??  I <3 it.  Anyway, the light bulb went off just now.

On the way home from church, I was welling up thinking about Sunday School and Bible Study. I had not prepared for either and yet, I was able to give input to both.  I was pulling illustrations from our former youth pastor, bringing insight from some blog posts from here, giving examples from my own life, recalling stuff from my 90 days study..it all seemed to just come out of my mouth.  I know that was God speaking through me and while I drove home I marvelled at the thought I was used by God today and I’ve been thinking of quitting teaching Sunday School and I was thinking, this is such a natural high, I don’t think I want to give it up.

At that point though, I knew what I had said was prompted by God bringing these things to my mind but at the same time, I felt like all I did was ramble in both sessions and wondered if people thought I just liked to hear myself talk.

But now with that txt coming in and the “coincidence” of Scripture, it’s all very clear that God is active and working and it’s just really, really cool.

Heather’s Hot Mess

February 9, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Nothing like money to motivate my sister!  I suggested she start a blog so she could help herself out of debt a little quicker with PPP and bam, 2 minutes later, she’s starting her own blog.  Well, I don’t care why she started one, I think she’s a really funny writer and I’m excited we all get to read her now.  So go visit Heather’s Hot Mess and give her some really good comment love!

Finally Friday

February 8, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

Wow, this has been a busy last 7 days.  And tonight I’m feeling it.  I’ve been vegging out on the couch, Interneting and watching TV.  I really meant to clean last night but we ended up at J&J’s after getting the girls to sleep at Mom’s.  I really was going to clean tonight but this past week just sort of hit me.

Today I went to work (hence the lack of posts today).  After I got home the girls, Heather and I ate at IHOP and then made a quick stop at Target.  I had all intentions of getting the girls to bed, hopping on the elliptical and cleaning the house but I have done none of that.  I’ve done the dishes and switched the laundry but that’s as far as I got.  I think I may wait to switch the laundry once more and call it a night.

As of the rest of the weekend, I just have to help set up and close up the concession stand at the church tomorrow and the rest of it should be pretty open.

She sounded just like her mother

February 7, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

You know it’s bad when there is a 3 and 4 year old in the bathroom and you hear the 5 year old walk in on them and say:

“Oh, what a mess. I am SO tattletelling on both of y’all.  Whose idea was this??  Yours, S?  And you Lexi, you’re going to have to get a bath. “

What was the mess you ask?  Lexi decided it was a good idea to “refill” a red stamp pad with water.  When I walked in, their hands were covered, red stained water was all over the counter and dripping onto Lexi’s shirt and socks.

I actually stayed calm.  Sometimes in the worst of messes, I stay the calmest. Otherwise I would lose it.  And really, Lexi was trying to be do-it-yourself and refill her ink.  I can’t really punish that.

Thankful Thursday

  • Nice weather the past few days.  It’s been a nice break and the kids have been able to get outside some.
  • Have I mentioned I’m thankful for our tax return coming next week?
  • My new elliptical.  Hopefully this one won’t spaz.
  • CVS.  I’ve gone at least 3 times this week and it’s saving us so much money and I’m able to give so much away.  It’s been great.
  • Our former mayor was not more seriously hurt during our local robbery.

Arbonne update

February 7, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

I got all my Arbonne products yesterday…a day earlier than expected.  I hadn’t gotten a shower by the afternoon so I got to use all the products then and then some of them again at bedtime (plus I’ve been using samples on my face for two weeks).  And I actually got a shower this morning while Scott took the kids to school.  And I don’t have any dramatic results to show yet but I can tell you my skin is as soft as it’s ever been.  My face feels so smooth.  I LOVE the mineral powder foundation stuff along with the new foundation primer they came out with.  To me, my face looks so finished and yet it feels like I have nothing on.

I’m going tonight to a meeting where their national regional area VP something or other is attending.  I don’t think I’m ready to go do my own shows, but if these products continue to change my skin like they have already, I’m going to want everyone to know about it and I wouldn’t mind hosting a few more shows just for that and they tell me I can make a little bit of money too.  And we know I’m all for that.
