2008 Pageant – The Dress

September 5, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

Tomorrow is Lexi’s second pageant.  I got really lucky and the pageant director resells dresses and had one that fit Lexi to a tee and let us rent it for $20!!  What a deal!  And look how cute!  The director told us that Lexi scored really well last year and we really should consider sending her to state.  She said they would love her because she has so much natural beauty and has a great personality.  She sure knows how to butter a mom up!!  She even gave us tips on how to wear her hair and even threw in a clear case bag for us to have.  She was so nice!  I’m so thankful it was so easy.  Mom was nice enough to take Lexi to get new shoes and socks today so really, his has been a piece of cake!

Now Lexi just needs to go out and be a ham like she always is.  And she will I think because Lexi is SO excited about tomorrow.  We’ve been practicing her wave and twirling and it’s just so cute.

OK, enough stage mom gushing for now…there’ll be more posts tomorrow after the pageant 😉

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

September 5, 2008 by Amy 4 Comments

And this one says “My medication still isn’t working and I’m trying to keep them out of my shed.”

It’s duct tape.

I’m sorry.  I just couldn’t keep that to myself.

When I was neither hot nor a blogger

September 5, 2008 by Amy 12 Comments

In an effort to be open and honest, I feel a need to share pictures of me from high school when I was neither hot nor a blogger. Well, that and Melissa posted them on her facebook and I can’t just NOT share them.

Please notice: pasty white face, clear braces, red lipstick, high-wasted pants, gold metal belt and bright pants.  That’s Melissa there are on the right that I saw last night at The Melting Pot.

Please notice: Matching navy leather belt with large buckle.

This was before a party at Melissa’s.  Again white pasty face and red lipstick.  And the white shirt with the black buttons?  So 90’s..or 80’s…whatever.

This may have been one of the first pictures ever taken of Scott and I.  If you didn’t know, we met in his last month of high school.  I was only 15 here.

This is pre-Scott.  I dated the guy in the middle.  What kind of boots am I wearing?? It looks like I’m headed to boot camp.

Please note: ANOTHER way I did my bangs.  I was still in the 80’s-90s transition even though this was ’93ish.

WHY is Michelle looking at me that way?

*Update, there’s more*

Oh, to know what I know now and have that body again…lol

Graduation Party at my house.  I see improvement

Token Prom Picture

And just for our bruised pride, here is Melissa and I just last night.  My how things have changed.  And Thank the Lord!

Hot Blogger Calendar Photo Shoot Scheduled

September 5, 2008 by Amy 12 Comments

Do you see that swank little New York studio?  That’s where I’ll be from 8-8 on October 5th taking pictures for the Hot Blogger Calendar!!  Whoo Hoo!!!

Scott is working that weekend so I’m trying to enlist some of my girlie peeps to go with me.  (Why do I use phrases like girlie peeps when I blog?  I don’t ever say that in real life??).  I think Heather is going.  Jill might go.  Dani might go.  I asked Melissa to go but she already has a trip to Vegas planned for that weekend.  So I don’t know what’s going to happen.  All I know is me.  in that room.  taking pictures.  with 23 other hot bloggers.  Oh yeah, baby, I can’t wait!

OK, really, I’m scared out of my mind.  Scared I won’t be able to make it to the hotel.  Scared I’ll get lost on the subway.  Scared I will be extremely socially awkward.  Scared I won’t take a good picture.  Yeah.  Part of me is excited beyond belief but a bigger part is scared out of my mind!!

Date Night at The Melting Pot

September 5, 2008 by Amy 6 Comments

We had an amazing time last night.  The 6 of us had never gone out all together before and while I had absolutely no doubts we would have a good time, we certainly did.  The food was amazing and we had such a good time going from serious spiritual conversations all the way to silly ones.  But mostly silly ones.

But the entire experience was not cheap and it was not quick.  We didn’t get home until almost 10:30.  But I have to tell you about what we ate.  It’s a four course meal.  First you have a cheese appetizer.

We had the cheddar dip and the spinach and artichoke dip.  You can see we had fruit, veggies, bread and chips to dip in it.  All were amazing.

Next up were salads.  We each got to pick our own.  I had their California salad which had Gorgonzola cheese, walnuts and a raspberry vinaigrette.

Next was the main course.  Each couple has a tray of meat.  You just cook each piece of meat for about two minutes.  It usually worked out well if you just let two cook while you ate the first two.  I thought there would be a lot of waiting but there wasn’t.  And it ALL tasted fantastic.  We had jerk chicken, vanilla rum chicken, squash ravioli, sirloin, shrimp and mahi mahi.  I think my favorite was actually the shrimp.  But I’ve been in a seafood mood lately so who knows.

Next up was my favorite..the dessert.  I have to show you this picture because the name of the chocolate Flaming Turtle gets its name honest.  We also had white chocolate.

Here you can see what we had to dip in them.  It included strawberries, bananas, rice krispy pieces, brownie, pound cake, cheesecake and marshmallows

Our favorites were the strawberries in white chocolate, the rice krispy pieces in the flaming turtle and the brownies in either.  I know I was hesitant to go but I will go in a heartbeat again.  But really, mainly for these guys who we had a great time with…

Oh and one more thing.  My friend Melissa ended up with there for her and her husband’s anniversary so we FINALLY got to see each other again after several months.  Small world!

All the pictures are here

Lexi-ism “The Barn”

September 4, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

So we’re driving home from my dermatologist appointment today and I have to go by the pharmacy on the way home.  Lexi is chatting up a storm and then…

Lexi: Mommy, after you get home from the barn can I color?

Me (very confused): The barn? I’m not going to a barn. (Trust me, I don’t go to barns)

Lexi: But, Mommy, you said you were going to the FARM!

*what? I don’t go to barns OR farms*

Me (laughing): No, honey, I said the pharmacy.

Confession

September 4, 2008 by Amy 4 Comments

There’s something so releasing about confession. I’m sure it’s no coincidence that the same action that starts our journey as a Christian (see ABC’s of becoming a Christian) is the same one that we have to perform over and over throughout our journey. And each time it’s as if the old passes away and the new begins…over and over.

I had to confess something to Scott today. The Holy Spirit wouldn’t let me get away with NOT confessing it. I tried to only confess it to God but I had wronged Scott even though he didn’t know it and I wasn’t getting away with it. I was stressed. My blood pressure was up. My stomach didn’t feel well. I wasn’t connecting with him like I should have. Unconfessed sin does that to a person.

I sat Scott down this morning after the kids were all to school and confessed.  What it was doesn’t matter but the release of it is the same each time.  It’s as if the weight of the world comes off your shoulders and you can breathe again.  And the wonderful thing about having a Christian husband is just like God…they listen, they forgive, you learn and you both move on.

Proverbs 28:13 He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.
