Thankful Thursday

July 4, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

I know it’s 1am on Friday and all but I had this post in my mind since I woke up and I don’t feel right going to sleep without posting it.

Appreciating Normal.

That’s what I’m thankful for today.  You know those days where you’re sick or something really wrong is going on and you just want normal back?  And then you get normal back and you don’t even think of it because, well, you feel normal.  Well, today I feel normal and I’m thankful.  Nothing hurts, I have no pain, no major issues.  Yes, life is busy and I have some frustrations but overall, I’m just…normal.  And I’m stopping to say it feels good.

What a day

July 2, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Today was so frustrating.  We just moved servers on my OTH site and it has been CRAP since we moved.  SO slow and errors to the point people were emailing me complaining.  And you know I can’t handle that!  I wanted to ball up in a corner somewhere and cry.  I finally sent my host the “this is ridiculous and you better handle me ASAP or I’m moving” email and that seemed to jumpstart them a little.  With the help of a genius friend of mine, wordpress forums, and a lot of googling, the site is plugging along just fine right now.  And if you need to set your open_basedir in your php.ini file on your Apache server, I’m your gal.

Tackle It Tuesday: My drawers

July 1, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

My kitchen junk drawers to be exact.  This post is all in honor of my sister Heather.  She will be so proud.  Heather, look!

You could hardly open ANY of these drawers due to papers getting jammed.  In fact, the papers had started falling out the back and down into my pots and pans.  Nothing like finding a receipt in your small sauce pan!

I bought the drawer organizer in the second picture while I was with Heather at Wal-Mart the other day and it was just the thing I needed to jump-start this project.  Tonight I was just going to do one drawer.  I figured if I could just do one drawer, it would be a start and not be so overwhelming.  But in true Type A fashion, I had to do the entire project at once after getting started.  And really, it only took about an hour or so to finish up.

LOOK!  An (almost) EMPTY drawer!  NO papers.  This was the worst drawer for the papers jamming up and now, the papers are all put in their place.

And look! I even went through all my current to-do papers and organized them..

Yay for the organized kitchen drawers!

The Jesus Mii

July 1, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

If you haven’t downloaded the Jesus Mii and you have a Wii, please do.  It’s hilarious to hear things like

“Jesus just passed me!”

“Daddy, what if Jesus passes you?”

“Jesus is doing step with us!”

“Jesus is throwing you a hula hoop!”

June OTH Report

July 1, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Alrighty, folks!  I mentioned in my last report that June might be a slow month for my OTH site.  Boy, was I wrong.  Now, we didn’t have the highs we did at the season finale in May but the month was steady and the ads ROCKED making for a record high in financial numbers.

This month included a few highlights worthy of mention

  1. We got a new dedicated server this month. We just moved onto it Sunday and so far I’m not too happy.  The server is really slow which is really disappointing considering it’s a DEDICATED SERVER.  I’ve got a ticket in with the host and I’m hoping they shed some light on it.  New server means more money though so that is definitely going to cut into profits.
  2. I branched out into a new ad network this month…eBay Partner Network.  I just link to items on eBay that our readers might be interested in and WOW, this was the second highest source of income for the month.
  3. We implemented avatars in our comments and the people seem to like that quite a bit.  I’m hoping that increases comments and therefore hits more.  Not to mention I LOVE looking at all the pretty icons.

Ok, onto the numbers.  I can’t tell you how excited I am about these.  In fact, to be quite honest, I kind of feel bad for how much I’m making for doing something part-time that I love so much.

BlogHerAds: $1224
Adsense: $204
Kontera $27.90
Linkshare: $14.04
Amazon: $11.87
eBay: $332.51

Did you see that?  $332 just for posting links to eBay…isn’t that crazy?  And it’s not like I’m doing it every day..I post only the interesting things that I would be intereting buying like signed scripts, unique clothing, etc.

BlogHerAds were awesome as I mentioned!  We were looking at $2 for every 1000 page loads!  Usually if you’re lucky, you get $1 and some only give .50 so I’m ecstatic about that.

What I’m still disappointed with is Adsense.  Based on my traffic, people say that should be much higher.  Oh well.  I guess some sites lend to one thing while others are good at other things.

All in all, that’s a total of $1815! $1815!!!  That’s insane!  The show isn’t even on right now!  That makes me really excited for the fall and what could-be.

I like to make predictions for the next month and I’ll say with filming going on the next month, I think traffic will remain steady but unless BlogHerAds continue with such high numbers, I seriously doubt the financial numbers will be as good.

But for now…I’m lovin’ June!!

Bachelorette Top 3

June 30, 2008 by Amy 2 Comments

I really ruined it for myself tonight. I turned on the tv right after 9 to watch the show not knowing it was on at 8 and see Jeremy sitting in the group of guys for the Men Tell All show. I was like WAIT the top 2 do not go on that show and did I miss a week?? I went through my whole schedule in my head trying to figure out how I missed a Monday. Then I realized it was on just before and I TOTALLY JUST RUINED THE TOP 3. Anyway, I sat through the thing anyway because at that point I just had to figure out how Jeremy was ousted.

Jeremy completely clammed up on their date and I think she finally realized what I thought…that their connection was more about their parents than themselves.

Jason’s date was AWESOME.  In fact, that was probably one of my favorite fantasy dates ever.  Jason completely opened up.  He wanted exactly the same thing as her…to just have fun.  And they really did.  And it didn’t seem forced at all.  They’re so cute together and they both seem so honest and open with one another.  It was really great.

As for Jesse…I really, really like Jesse.  I love how he feels about her and how he opened up to her and had a serious conversation with her.  I like how he still managed to make her laugh.  I love how he compliments her all the time.  I just love Jesse.  He’s just a really cool guy.  I think in the end though they’re going to have logistically problems. I don’t think it’s fair for him to have to leave snowboarding.  I realize he can’t do that his whole life but it seems he’s giving up too much just to make it work.

I was suprised to see Jeremy go and I felt so bad for the guy.  I was so scared when he got out of that limo! I thought he was going to walk back to DeAnna and say something!

I’m happy with the final two and I really, really hope she picks Jason.

We got Wii Fit

June 30, 2008 by Amy 7 Comments

I finally have one of my own.  I feel like doing a victory lap around something seeing how hard it was to find one of these things except for the fact that I kind of feel sore and don’t really feel like running at all.  If I were to actually DO the Wii Fit every day which of course I plan on doing *ahem* you really could get quite fit.

Apparently, however, Mr. Balance Board doesn’t think I’m so fit at the moment though with messages like "your lower body is lacking strength" and "i can tell you fell off the board, work on your balance".  Mr. Balance Board wasn’t very nice to me.  At least I have something to work on I guess.  Let me show you the excitement from tonight…and no, I did not make one of those crazy little hula hoop videos.

We opened the UPS package…I love mail!  Especially boxes!

They got IN the box while I installed batteries

Then got all comfy in with snacks to watch

While I got ready and prepared to hurt.

But it didn’t take long for them to join in…

Let me pause here to apologize for my outfit.  And yes, I did change because I couldn’t get my leg to stay in the yoga Tree pose with the pants on.  And no, the top and pants don’t go together but I was too lazy to completely change into a matching outfit.  It’s not like I was going to get someone to take pictures and post them on the Internet or anything though sheesh.

Here’s the yoga Tree pose. I love how Lexi has her foot on her knee in the front.

IMG_7569

We hula hooped.  I seriously wasn’t going to post this but I love Emma’s mouth in this and the fact that she looks like a mini me.  If I were to post the other pictures, you’d see she was following perfectly.

IMG_7597

And wow, the RUNNING. I barely made it!  I know I look like SUCH A DORK.  In fact, it looks like I’m about to punch myself in the face.  Can I just say the soccer head butting thing was hilarious when you got hit in the head with a shoe?  I could barely concentrate I was laughing at it so much.  But we really had fun exercising together.

IMG_7608

Looking forward to using this thing more.  I really do miss going to the gym and haven’t gotten into my elliptical.    Maybe with this, it will jump start me back into it.  Then again, I think it all depends on how my relationship with Mr. Balance Board pans out.

On Soccer

June 28, 2008 by Amy 3 Comments

Emma: Mommy, if we play soccer, I’ll beat you. Watch my skills.

We just bought our first soccer ball today and I have no clue where that skills thing came from.
