My normal day

June 14, 2008 by Amy 3 Comments

I just found this picture on my camera and I can’t tell you how indicative it is of our normal day.  Let me point out things just in this picture that tell of my day:

  • I have two computers in front of me.  Yes, I check up on personal email and stuff while I work throughout the day.
  • I’m in my pajamas.  Actually, I’m in my bathing suit with my pajamas on top.  We had just gone swimming.  My hair is wet here and I have no makeup on.  That is pretty typical at least in the mornings for me.  For the summers, it’s typical that I don’t get a shower until after I’m done working at 4.  There’s just no point when we swim at lunch time and then sometimes in the evenings.
  • Lexi’s hair is falling out.  I’m really bad at fixing my girls’ hair on a daily basis. Normally I can get myself to brush through Emma’s hair but for Lexi, she screams when I do it, so I usually just leave it alone when it’s in a ponytail until it is in really bad shape as it is in this picture.
  • Lexi’s dress is not buttoned.  Lexi loves wearing dresses.  Sometimes multiple ones per day.  And I’m just too lazy to do the buttons.  If you don’t believe me about the dresses.  Let me show you how many dresses I washed TODAY of theirs.  Usually, I wait a few weeks to wash all the dresses at once.

  • My breakfast is still sitting on my desk.  Yes, this is why Scott, Mr. OCD, goes insane with me around sometimes.
  • My hot pink high heels are lying on the ground.  The girls love to walk in my shoes and that pair just didn’t get put up yet.
  • Emma is writing.  She loves to write and color.  Especially on my printer paper.  In this case, she was writing a recipe. I would not want to try it.

  • But most importantly, the 3 of us are together and I’m working.  And that’s why I love working at home and even if there on top of me, dishes aren’t up, shoes are lying around, Emma’s making a mess coloring, I don’t get a shower until 5, I LOVE IT!

Another answered prayer

June 14, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Emma’s fever broke last night around 11.  She slept soundly through the night and woke up normal as can be.  No symptoms whatsoever from whatever the fever might have been fighting…including the mumps.  She was completely back to normal and even went ice skating today with SIL (which she didn’t like, by the way, which really could be a future answered prayer because I was really not looking forward to going to ice skating lessons with S since she’s planning on taking them.  anyway.)

Overheard in Chick-fil-A last night

June 13, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

3yo-ish boy to Daddy sitting behind us.  I caught the tail end of their conversation: Daddy, can I have some ice cream? *pause* Can I have some ice cream?

Daddy: Cayden!  You don’t have to ask me 50 times!!

I cracked up laughing.  I could have sworn Scott switched seats with that other guy.

Real Hope for Haiti

June 13, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Awhile back I blogged on Real Hope for Haiti.  I never really did follow up on that though.  I gave what was left in my PayPal account at the time, continued to read Aaron’s posts through the week and emptied my PayPal account a second time after a payment came in again and then tonight I read this post directly from the center and emptied it once more.  My heart just breaks for these kids and I honestly don’t know what to do but pray and click that little donation button.  I know the small amount of money I’m sending isn’t going to stop their pain tonight but maybe, just maybe, it will make a difference somewhere at some point.

Lord, please be with all the burn victims in Haiti right now.  Help the swelling go down and the healing process to quicken.  Be with the children’s families and the workers at the center now.  Grant them mercy and grace and patience and courage and strength.  Thank you for moving me to make a difference and I pray that my gifts are multiplied beyond recognition and used for Your glory.

Calm before the storm

June 13, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

I guess you could say tonight was the calm before the storm.  I went into work today which turned out to be a pleasant day.  Nothing like Mexican, M&M’s, Root Beer, friends and very little work to make a day.

Emma however was fighting a fever all day.  Scott kept Tylenol in her throughout the day and I just had to give her another dose before she went to bed.  Lexi had a fever last night but woke up with what feels like maybe a slight fever but she’s been acting completely normal.

Emma on the other hand sat in the recliner the ENTIRE evening barely saying a word which is NOT like her AT ALL.  MIL stopped by to see them since she had planned to keep them tonight.  She’s convinced Emma has the mumps as her cheeks do look a bit swollen.  But I looked it up and mumps are rare these days barring an outbreak somewhere in the Midwest two years ago and it’s caused by a virus so there’s not much they can do.  I’m just going to keep an eye on her fever for now and if her cheeks or jaws become painful, I’ll take her in to the doctor just to verify her diagnosis.  Who knows what it is though.

So basically all that to say we had a VERY quiet night at home. I kept up with the laundry and the kids basically watched TV. I hate for them to watch it that long but Emma really didn’t feel like doing anything else and Lexi made herself busy on her own as always.

Tomorrow MIL is planning to get the girls assuming they are fever-free in the morning.  I’m hoping to clean the house while they’re gone and maybe start packing for both me and the girls for next week.  Scott’s not too great at the outfit thing so I’m planning to lay out some clothes for them and go ahead and pack their overnight bags for Tuesday and Wednesday.

I’m getting pretty excited about going.  I’m really going to miss my family but I know it will be a great week and honestly, I really need to be a youth camp junkie for a week.

I love love and reading about love

June 12, 2008 by Amy 6 Comments

I’ve been reading the Pioneer Woman for about a year now I guess.  She’s like one of those star bloggers that most of you probably already read.  I even had a coworker mention out of the blue that his wife reads her.  Anyway, I’ve seen her write about how her and her husband got together..a string of posts called Black Heels to Tractor Wheels but I was waiting until it was “done” (not sure when she’s planning to stop the story) to read it but when she posted a new chapter today, my curiosity go the best of me.

I started reading some time this evening after work until Scott wanted to run some errands.  And then I found myself wandering through the aisles of Lowe’s tonight, holding Scott’s arm so I knew where to walk with my eyes glued to my iPhone screen.   And then I found myself reading it while I watched the kids play in Chick fil A.  And then I found myself reading it while I sat with the kids watching TV.  And then I found myself at my computer screen reading it tonight.  I could. not. quit reading it.  I have no idea how long it might be printed out but it’s 35 posts and quite a page-turner post-turner? spectacular story.  Please, if you love a good love story, go read it.  The best part is it’s real and you can read about them years later on her blog.  It’s ten times better reading her blog now that I’ve read Black Heels to Tractor Wheels.  So go forth and read!

Settlement Day

June 12, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

Today Scott went to finalize his settlement from breaking his collarbone at work almost two years ago (has it been that long?). We already have the entire thing spent I think. We’ll pay off the short note from the truck Scott just bought, pay off the van, tithe and I think that covers it. Back in January we had a list of things from last year we wanted to pay for and now we have a few more marked off:

Hardwood floors in living room/kitchen/entry/playroom
Kitchen countertops
Refrigerator (and stove if I REALLY had a lot of money)
Curtains for my room
Curtains for my living room (if I could figure out what fabric I wanted)

Pay off our van
Get another car for us to use
Bedside table for Scott
Telescopic lens for my camera
New computer that will run Pinnacle including new graphics card with TV Tuner – off the list
DVD camcorder

A few more things I’d like to add:

Water softener
New bedroom suite/bed for the girls

With the money coming in from my OTH site, the IRS check, hopefully selling the Land Rover soon and so forth, our savings account is becoming quite healthy and I’m SO happy about that…not to mention the fact we are going to have NO car payment.  Whoo Hoo!

SYTYCD Top 20

June 12, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

I was very impressed with last night’s dancing. They really have stepped it up this year. Every single one of them is amazing and it’s really bad I almost want some of them to dance for their life just so I can see them do their thang.

Rayven & Jamie (hip hop) – I thought they both did well but I agreed with what I think Dan said..it was sort of the same the whole time. But what was with pulling his pants down? My girls looked at me like Mom!!! I’m really starting to wonder if I should let them watch the show. Anyway, the pair of them seemed EXTREMELY excited and confident about their performance. That alone sort of turned me off.

Susie and Marquis (smooth waltz) – Very nice. Marquis was very smooth and graceful. I just can’t get into Susie even though I want to.

Kortni and Matt (jazz) – Not particularly memorable but I felt like they performed this well. Kortni in particular.

Chelsea and Thayne’s cha cha – I thought this was great.  Chelsea was barely containable and boy, she could move those hips.  Same for Thayne.  Turns out it’s a bit unforgettable though as I couldn’t remember it until I saw a picture of Chelsea in her purple outfit.

Chelsie and Mark (Mia Michaels’ contemporary) Mia Michaels has a very strange head. That being said, it was beautifully performed. I think Mark is oddly unique and was perfect for this.

Kherington and Twitch Twitchington (Broadway) – I love, love, loved this.  I just love Twitch though.  I hope he goes to the finals.

Comfort and Chris (jive) – Comfort surprised me.  She’s a lot different than she seemed in earlier shows.  Yes, she’s confident but I just think she’s silly–in a good way.  She’s very entertaining and has the dancing to back it up.

Katee and Joshua (hip hop) – I love Joshua.  I’m not in love with Katee but I love Joshua.  He’s such a cutie pie and when he dances, every move just seems so natural, unrehearsed and flawless.  I hope he goes far.

Jessica and Will (tango) – I really like Will but I really did not like this.

Courtney and Gev (disco) – I do not like Disco and I did not like this performance.  That being said, I think Courtney will do well with other genres.

I think Courtney and Gev, Kortni and Matt and Jessica and Will are in trouble

Twitchington, Chelsea and Mark and Katee and Joshua were my favorites.
