Top 7 American Idol Guys

February 19, 2008 by Amy 3 Comments

I was tagged by Paula to tell seven things about me.  So I’m going to double-up and tell you my top 7 guys from American Idol tonight (mostly in the right order)

  1. Michael Johns – he’s got the package.  he sings well, he looks good, he’s confident, and he has an accent.  what more do you want?
  2. Jason Castro – i love his honest shock of the good reviews.  i think he’ll just keep getting better and better
  3. David Archuleta – was he not so cute?  he was SO nervous afterwards but you would have never known it while he was singing.
  4. Robbie Carrico
  5. David Cook – i’m sorry but his hairline is annoying me.  just shave it!
  6. David Hernandez
  7. Danny Noriega – his confidence is starting to grate on my nerves

I thought we had missed it…

All the sickness, I mean. But no, my lack of energy yesterday is explained by the oncoming sickness today. Starting this morning, I have had general aches, a slight fever, sore throat, cough and headache. I loaded myself up on meds but mostly spent the day on the couch trying to work while my Internet connection went up and down. Mom’s having dinner at her house so we’ll head over there for the evening until it’s time to come home and settle in for AI and OTH.

Fun doesn’t last forever

February 18, 2008 by Amy 3 Comments

Last week at youth Bible study we were discussing the first sin committed by Adam and Eve and what sin is in general.  One of the discussion questions was “Do you regret your sin?”  One of the girls piped up immediately, “No!  It makes you who you are.”  A typical answer for a 13 year old, who has NO idea who she is and has heard many people say that.  I decided to challenge her thinking and said, “You know, if I could take every single sin I have committed away, there’d be no question I would.  If I could erase all my sins and live the perfect life God had intended me to live, I’d do it in a heartbeat.”  I think I got the attention of the group with that.  It’s not a popular opinion I don’t think.  People don’t want to regret the good times.  Because, hey, they were good and they were fun.  And true, they were.  No one can dismiss how good it can feel to sin sometimes.

Last Thursday I stood in front of my closet picking out what to wear for the day and I could hear the girls starting to dump out toys from their plastic containers in the playroom.  I had just cleaned up and didn’t really want to clean it again.  I yelled out in my motherly voice, “You can play now, but you’re going to have to clean it up later.”  As soon as I said it, I think I muttered a “Woah” out loud….you can play now, but you’re going to have to clean it up later.   Let that one sit with you for a moment.  I immediately thought of the conversation from Bible study last week.

When we do something that is against God’s word and will, that is sin.  A lot of times we don’t like to use that little word.  It sounds so…religious and dirty.  And to tell the truth, a lot of times it doesn’t seem like the right word because sometimes sinning is so much fun.  Wow, did I really say that?  But admit it, in the moment, it feels good.  But then I think of that phrase uttered to my children…you can play now, but you’re going to have to clean it up later.  Isn’t that so true?  That innocent, flirtatious conversation with a friend somehow turns into a divorce and a broken family.  That fruity drink turns into another one and then somehow turns into a fatal accident and guilt that can never be healed.  That anger and jealousy turns into a hurt teenager that goes down as another school shooting.  No, not all sin has such dramatic consequences.  But any sin we commit takes us a step further away from a closer relationship with God.  But most of the time, our sin is a slippery slope into a mess of consequences that we’re just going to have to clean up later.

The Day Off

February 18, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

I didn’t get up until after 10, spent time on the elliptical and then was ready around lunchtime.  MIL brought the girls and our nephew over and we all went to Moe’s to eat.  The rest of the afternoon was spent home just the four of us doing not much of anything.  We spent some time outside on the swingset, some time inside playing toys and playing computer games.  I made a run to Walgreens before Scott headed to work.  My stomach was feeling weird all afternoon so I’ve been kind of out of it.

The girls and I ate in this evening and made another trip to Walgreens since my coupons didn’t work the first go round.  The girls have been busy playing on their own and even refused a Chutes and Ladder game with me.  I have busied myself with laundry, cleaning the kitchen floor and bills.  Yep, it’s a “day off”.

Why, hello, day off

February 17, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

So excited this is a long weekend.

Yesterday was spent helping out with the concessions at church once again.  I did take a two hour break and went home to clean the house.  So yeah for that being done.

Today we spent most of the afternoon at Olive Garden.  We were very late leaving church because Scott had to count the money and then it took us an hour to wait for a table and then it took awhile there because we had 12 people with us.  So when we got home, I got to lie down for about 30 minutes before I had to get back up for choir practice and church.  After church, went to J&J’s for coffee since the girls are spending the night at MIL’s tonight.  And as a side note, I can’t give details but things are a-brewing at church again.  Should be some major shake-ups one way or another.

Tonight I plan to stay up late and then sleep late tomorrow before getting in some family time before Scott heads to work tomorrow night.

Sunday Scripture

February 16, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

sunday-scripture.jpgMatthew 5:41-42

If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

The Scripture from my Sunday School lesson couldn’t be more appropriate for this week. I really hope you are reading the posts from the people (Sophie, Heather, Anne, Chris and Keely) in Uganda with Compassion and have been touched like I have.  I’m so proud to be a sponsor with Compassion and I hope that you can go the extra mile and give $32 a month to sponsor a child in need.

Belated Valentine’s Dinner

February 16, 2008 by Amy 2 Comments

Last night J&W, D&D and Scott and I went out to a place called McIntosh’s in Charlotte. We rode the lightrail up there for the first time. The entire night was so much fun. The place is known for it’s steak. In fact, it offers a 3 LBS Porterhouse (for $90!!). I stuck to my 8 oz filet though.

The sides were family style so we had garlic mashed potatoes, au gratin potatoes and mushroom and spinach which we all shared. For desert we had dark chocolate cake, apple pie and ice cream and coffee. It was all absolutely delicious but quite pricey. We could have sponsored a Compassion child for a YEAR for the amount of money the three couples paid for the night. No joke. I actually felt pretty guilty about how much we spent but I do have to say we had a great time.

The conversation between the six of us is NEVER dull and it was great to get out with no kids and catch up with one another. Here’s my $20 outfit. The shoes were bought last minute at Kohl’s and cost more than the outfit:

For the ladies, here’s the shoes from Kohl’s:

And here’s some cool pictures of the lightrail:img_3238.JPG
