On Context

January 30, 2009 by Amy

I have an email in my inbox that says

What are you wearing?

In some cases, that could be an email that would raise some eyebrows.

But in my case, it’s from Dani and she wants to know what I’m wearing tonight to dinner.

Another email I got says

ok….thanks

In some cases, that could be an appreciative email from a friend.

But in my case, it’s from someone who’s trying to say I’m a close-minded jerk and to stay out of her life.

It also means I lost a friend yesterday and that su-uh-uhcks.

You are soooo right about the context.
I sometimes worry about my comments and tweets.
I hope they are being taken in the right context.
    So sorry about your friend.
    Hope things work out!
    Happy Friday!

What a great point. I read a book when I was little that said something about, “the greatest as well as the worst things in the world can be said in three words”.

Makes you think about how important it is to weigh what we say… you can’t always tell which few words will be the ones to stick with someone forever.

I know what you mean…text messages between my husband and I have started little arguments on numerous occassions! “I was just kidding, geez!”
    I’m sorry about your friend…been there! 🙁

Well, you are neither close minded nor a jerk, so your former friend is stupid.

I’m with Melissa…you are definitely not a jerk and I have never found you to be closed minded (all someone has to do is read some of the comments on the OTH Blog)!

    So…what *are* you wearing? 🙂

It’s your friend’s loss, Amy. He/she will realize that in time.
