I can’t even go song by song on this. Crystal blew Lee out of the water. Which kind of stinks because I was really pulling for Lee coming in to tonight. Dialidol is showing Lee way ahead though so what do I know? I love Lee and I’ll be happy if he wins but Crystal deserves this. She’s been consistent and out front the entire time. Lee has had his moments and I’d buy Lee’s album way before Crystal’s but I really think she outperformed Lee tonight and overall.
I thought the song choices for Lee were especially poor. Even when Michael Stipe sings "Everybody Hurts," it's a pitchy mess. And Bono is what makes "Beautiful Day" work. Neither of those songs suited Lee's vocal style or range. They should've paired him up with an old Billy Joel or Bob Seger song r a newer Nickelback or Staind song for a better fit.
Crystal blew the doors off with that "Go To the Mountain" song, but really, none of her material was especially current. They framed her with songs that furthered the dated Joplin-esqe persona. She could've done as well or better with newer material from Melissa Etheridge or Jewel. Alternatively, they could've really showcased her vocal power with an Aretha Franklin tune.
Seeing Lee's transformation over the course of the season makes me want to root for him, but Crystal is the better, more seasoned performer. While her stint on AI has clearly given her opportunities to refine & polish her craft, she started the season nearly as good as she finished it. Like you, I'm more likely to rush out to buy Lee's album than Crystal's, but she's the clear winner.

I know he just sang it, but I wish Lee would have done Hallelujah last night.
I watched the finale today and agree that Crystal did WAY better, which is too bad because I love her more and was hoping she'd come in second so she would retain her creative freedom. Second best always seems to have way more freedom. Maybe if she wins she'll be a Kelly Clarkson diva about her career. She really deserves the room to be her own artist.
I will be happy with whoever wins tonight, they're both amazing!
