Halloween 2009

October 31, 2009 by Amy 2 Comments

Wow, what ANOTHER really long Saturday.  It started this morning at 6am with work of all things!  The rest of the morning progressed with the yard sale at Mom’s and back and forth with work.  Upload speeds completely failed me and I ended up having to go into work about 9:30.  I was back before too long though and we finished up the yard sale.  Once at home, I think Scott could see how tired I was and let me take a nap.  I was up just in time for him to head back to work and for us to head out for a full evening.

The original plan was for Emma to stay at IL’s to help and Lexi wanted to go to my parents’ neighborhood party so she could get on their hay ride.  Well, it ended up a tad different.  We found out Mom and Dad’s church was having a fall festival which included dinner.  I grabbed some pictures of the kids while we waited for Mom, Dad and Heather.  Once you see them, you’ll see they (especially Lexi) was having fun with that.  Once inside though, the kids completely freaked out on me and would not play a single thing and would hardly even speak a word. I guess a crowd of unknown people got the best of them.

After that was Scott’s parents’ house.  It was raining by the time we got over there but it did not stop the kids from grabbing umbrellas and going.  They made it two houses before Emma figured out it was not for her.  By the time Lexi got back, her hair, shoes and costume were absolutely soaked.  I told her it was quite fitting they wore their bathing suits under their costume.

I happened to have some leftovers from the yard sale and Lexi changed into that but Emma decided just to sport her bathing suit.  It WAS 70 degrees this evening!  Well, the girls must have been on a sugar high because they spent probably the next 30 minutes in a wrestling match.  Scott does that with them almost daily when they are feeling a little bored.  What’s funny is Lexi says, “Daddy always wins when he’s here but when he’s not *I* win!”  She was having the best time.  And Emma, she was getting beat but you couldn’t wipe the smile off her face either.

After a few trick or treaters trickled by we were going to head home but then the girls wanted to swing by my parents’ to trick or treat at their house.  It ended up being a full-on cookie factory.  Some great moments there too.  Emma took off her pants that irritated her…the exact reason they were in the yard sale to begin with…leaving her with an apron and her bathing suit sticking out the back.  Lexi gave us all a good laugh when she said her butt was sticking out.  Emma also had a really hard time picking out which cookie to eat.  She definitely gets her indecisiveness from me.

So here it is 16 hours later and even with my nap I’m ready to pass out and thankful we get an extra hour tonight!

Scooby Doo, You Know We Got a Mystery to Solve

October 28, 2009 by Amy Leave a Comment

Lexi (4): I saw this monster on TV before. He was purple and he had two arms on one side and no arms on the other.

Me: Was he scary?

Lexi: No.

Me: Well, if he’s scary, we can turn the channel if Scooby Doo is on.

Lexi: No!  They just solve mysteries, that’s all.

When Your Clothes Are on Fire

October 20, 2009 by Amy 2 Comments

Emma has been going through fire safety at school.  The other night we talked about what happens when there is a fire.  Emma said we need to have a plan and a meeting point.  We decided on the mailbox and oh yeah, don’t touch the door handle if your door is closed.  Sounded like the routine fire safety.

A few minutes after Emma came home today the girls are getting settled in.  I randomly hear Emma tell Lexi, “Do you know what you do when your clothes are on fire?”  I then see her stand up straight and be still for a beat and then drop to the floor and roll once around.

She tells Lexi to try it so she knows what to do.  The video below picks up right after that.  I think Lexi says she doesn’t want to right at the beginning and walks away and Emma decides to go get a snack.

It cracks me up that she stops, drops and rolls and Emma says “Goood.” And then they both just walk away like it’s so normal. And Emma at the end saying “That’s what you do when your clothes are on fire! For real life!”

Lexi-isms in Bitstrips

October 18, 2009 by Amy 2 Comments

Ok, so my friend Denise pointed me to Bitstrips, a site to create your own characters and comic strips.  The only thing I could think of to do was pull out some Lexi-isms.  Not all of them fit the length/format of a strip but this one I thought would do.  Seems to be more funny to me in the blog post but it’s really cute seeing us in comic strip form!

A Daddy’s Kiss

October 14, 2009 by Amy 5 Comments

I really don’t want to spoil the girls’ Halloween costumes.  I mean, that is a standard yearly blog post and I really don’t want to ruin your intense anticipation but last night the girls tried them on.   They were in girly, princess heaven.  I have a whole “roll” of pictures of them with those big, REAL smiles.  They curtsied and laughed and primped and danced and posed.  It was so much fun to watch that I grabbed my camera to capture it.  Scott was working and ended up stopping by the house and they were so excited to show him their outfits.  Scott leaned down to give Lexi a kiss and I caught a picture of Lexi savoring it just as he was leaning up.

Priceless.

Lexi-ism

October 13, 2009 by Amy 1 Comment

Really sorry if you guys don’t find these amusing but this as close to a baby book that my children will get and Scott and I find them wildly entertaining and can’t wait to read them in years to come.

Scott was aggravating Lexi.

Lexi: Stop!

He didn’t.

Lexi: I’m warning you!

Scott: What are you going to do?

Lexi: Wedgie!  Bad news!

Hello, Pattern!

October 12, 2009 by Amy 4 Comments

I love when people are brave enough to mix pattern and have an eclectic style of dress.  I was always the wear-purple-socks-with-a-purple-shirt kind of girl.  And still, to this day about as adventurous I get is wearing red shoes with a zebra print skirt.

So when Lexi came out wearing this outfit this morning?  It just made me smile.  She’s 4.  She may not want to do that when she’s 12 and she’ll probably pick out one of her black pair of shoes with an outfit like that at 31.  But for now?  Hello, Pattern!
