Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred

May 15, 2009 by Amy 1 Comment

The wonderful meals I had last week in Indy did not go unnoticed by my scale or clothes.  I took a skirt to wear and couldn’t zip it.  Yikes!  I had ordered the 30 Day Shred DVD before I left for Indy and I was never so pumped to get back to exercising Saturday.

When I was going to the gym, I had gotten used to the advanced 1 hour classes and when I was done within 20 minutes of workout Saturday that only included about 6 minutes of cardio, I was thinking I had gotten off easily.  But by mid afternoon I was starting to feel a little sore.  By Sunday morning, I could barely walk.  Knowing if I just pushed through, I’d be ok, I continued every day with the workouts.  But I was still really hurting into Monday.  Tuesday I woke up 90% better though.  It was like magic!

I’m pretty sure it’s doing something.  At times, my muscles have definitely felt shredded.  I have lost about 2 lbs since Saturday.  But I have to say usually I don’t lose weight by exercise alone.  It’s usually all about the snacking.  I’ve buckled back down on my Isagenix shakes and cut out the late night snacking which is always my Achilles’ heel.  I just think about the scale in the morning and I’m more apt to choose a handful of almonds over a bowl of ice cream.  Not to say I don’t give myself a treat.  I was happy to eat the chocolate chunk cookie Scott brought me from Starbucks yesterday afternoon.

The thing is though that when I’m exercising, I always, always eat better.  Eating bad makes me feel like my exercise was all for naught.  So for me, they go hand in hand.

One thing that is hilarious though is the girls have really gotten into this.  They love when I pull my mat out and have started doing the exercises with me.  On Tuesday, they insisted on doing the workout by themselves.  And Lexi did NOT want me watching.  I thought for sure they’d bow out early but they did everything start to finish.  I did sneak  a few pictures and video but at the time they didn’t have clothes on except their underwear *ahem* so I don’t really want to YouTube that.  So anyway, just trust me when I say it was HILARIOUS.  Here is a peek at them stretching though.  So cute!

Apparently My Absence is Permanent

May 8, 2009 by Amy 3 Comments

Last night Lexi had her spring program at school.  It was Scott’s one night to work this week while I’ve been gone so Mom took the girls.  Mom calls me after the program and retells a conversation with the teacher.

They’ve been working on Mother’s Day presents in school and the teacher told Lexi to take it to me or something and Lexi tells the teacher “My mommy doesn’t live at our house and she’s not coming back.”

I’ll just pause here and let it soak in what the teacher must have been thinking.  Neither Mommy or Daddy are at the program, Grandma has brought both kids and Lexi is insisting I’ve moved out.

OMG.

My Work “Project”

May 3, 2009 by Amy 2 Comments

Lexi: Why are your bosses at work making you go on a plane?

Me: Because I have to work on a project.

Emma, a few minutes later: What kind of craft are you going to do?

*crickets*

Me: No, honey, I’m not going to do arts and crafts.  I’m going to work on a project for the computer.

Emma: Are you going to go to tuxpaint.com?

*Sigh*

Like Father, Like Daughter #3

April 23, 2009 by Amy 2 Comments

Don’t know what #1 and 2 were?  Go here.

Honest to goodness this is starting to concern me.

We’re in the van on the way home from dinner tonight and Emma asks if we can buy sparkly pipe cleaners at the store this weekend so we can make ALL KINDS of crafts with them.  Then Lexi pipes up.

“Mommy, can we PLEASE buy some toilet cleaner?” Really?  I mean, out of nowhere she asks for this.

“Are you talking about the things that make the water blue?”  It’s the only thing I can figure would interest a child.

Emma chimes in, “Mommy, it’s those things that hang on the inside that make the toilet clean.”

Lexi becomes insistent.  “No.  Mommy it’s just toilet cleaner.  I saw it at Marissa’s.  It makes the toilet clean.”

“Don’t you think our toilets are clean?” I say, a little hurt.

“Yeah.” Lexi agrees.

“So you just want them extra clean?”

“Yeah.  Can we get them please?”

Really?  I’m starting to think I should hold her birthday party in the cleaning supply aisle of Wal-Mart.

Lexi, Say Cheese!

April 2, 2009 by Amy 6 Comments

I mentioned it briefly in my Disney post but Lexi has this habit of looking away from the camera as soon as you tell her you’re taking her picture.  She’s cute as a button but the girl is a tough one to photograph.

Take for instance last Thursday when I HAD to have a headshot for her pageant program.  It is the very first impression the judges will have of her.  And while I’m not a stage mom and am totally ok with her not winning, I’m just thinking these wouldn’t work.

Left and serious look?

There are only about 60 other ones like this.

But somehow, every once in a while, you manage to hit gold.

Disney: Then and Now

April 2, 2009 by Amy 2 Comments

I wish I had my Mom’s pictures of our visit to Disney when I was 7.  It’d be interesting to see in this post.  I’ve referred to it a few times, but Scott and I visited Disney in 2002.  What’s interesting is the day before we left, I found out I was pregnant with Emma.  I made the call to the OB to get my first appointment on the way to Florida Monday morning.  That’s the reason I didn’t ride Tower of Terror or Rock ‘n Rollercoaster or why I rode Space Mountain for the first time after three visits last week.

I thought it’d be interesting to compare a few pictures.

Here I am at Animal Kingdom in 2002.  Emma is there and she’ll tell you she’s in my tummy.

Now here is Emma and I at Animal Kingdom this year:

It’s kind of odd how similar my outfit and even hair is.  Except now that baby in my tummy is outside and 6 years old!

Here is Scott and I (are Scott and I? is me and Scott?) (and Emma) at the Tree of Life in 2002:

Here we are this year without the kids:

Wow, you can really tell where Scott lost 25 lbs!

and with them:

Kind of cool to see the changes in our family!

Learning to Ride

March 19, 2009 by Amy 4 Comments

We are really behind with Emma on the whole learning to ride a bike thing. She got a bike a few years back and she was too young then and we decided to give it a rest and now here we are at 6 1/2 and nothing.  Today we pulled it out and she started getting the basics (along with dolly of course).  We have a lot of work to do but I think she should catch on quickly since she definitely has all the skills needed.

Leprechaun Did What?

March 17, 2009 by Amy 3 Comments

On the way home from preschool today Lexi says:

Mommy, did you know a REAL leprechaun came into my class and sprinkled magic dust everywhere and then he went to the potty and forgot to flush?

I had to ask her a few times to repeat the last part and she insisted he went to the potty and didn’t flush, wash his hands or wipe.  Seriously, what is going on over there?
