Day 6

May 19, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Today was a pretty laid-back day.

The only thing out of the ordinary was Lexi’s first filling at the dentist.  She didn’t like the laughing gas after a few seconds and kept saying “I’m done” but she was talked pretty easily into letting it sit there.  We waited FOREVER for the dentist but she laid there while watching Diego.  She did really good and never cried until the very end when they put the blue light on the tooth and for some reason THAT made her cry.  It wasn’t hysterical..just sort of squirmy and scared.  But that was the last step so it was all done really fast.  She went hopping out to the waiting room telling S and Emma (did I mention SIL and S happen to have an appointment at the same time?  I really felt like that was an answer to prayer…I was concerned yesterday about Emma seeing Lexi get hers done since Emma has to go Wednesday and in general what to do with Emma if Lexi freaked out.  Emma tends to get upset if Lexi does) she had eaten Cotton Candy (the scent of her laughing gas).  So I guess all is well.  She got to eat right away so all was back to normal this afternoon.  Just a trip to the grocery store, lots of watermelon and cooked cupcakes and then it was bedtime.

I’m smack-down in the middle of a bunch of season finales at the moment.   Back to it…

Day 2

May 15, 2008 by Amy 4 Comments

End of day 2 and we’re surviving.  In fact, my house is extraordinarily clean right now.  And I have no idea why I measure our survivorship by the cleanliness of my house but I do.  I guess when things go haywire, the cleaning is the first to go.  If you walk in and there’s dishes everywhere, toys everywhere, most likely, it’s been a crazy day.  But if I manage to get it all picked up, then the craziness must have ended at some point.

I guess.

But right now, it’s looking pretty good.  I did take the time to finally clean all our hardwoods.  My aunt and her family are coming in tomorrow afternoon and Mom warned me they’d probably make a visit.  Which I’m ecstatic about but I did have to do some cleaning.  Which, hey, I really just got a headstart on this weekend.

Anyway.

It’s not saying things have been perfect since he’s been gone.  Let me give you a little rundown of things that have happened just in the past 48 hours…really just in 22 awake hours that I’ve had them.

  • Lexi spent time in the bathroom today with a sink full of water and half a tube of SpongeBob Toothpaste.  When I found her, it was in her hair, in her Barbie’s hair, smeared all over the entire countertop and on the handtowels.  Lexi had two baths today and really could have used three because…
  • Lexi inhaled bubbles when she was blowing bubbles with this new bubble wand thingy in the garage which must have been pretty bad because it made her vomit in the garage and on her clothes.
  • During her two baths, the floors was completely drenched in water.  It took two full towels to wipe it up which I’m now washing…again.
  • Lexi decided she wanted to pour her own cereal in the sunroom into a bowl.  Apparently I didn’t have the eyes in the back of my head open because the next time I walked by, the feet part of the elliptical machine as well as most of the table and floor in the sunroom was full of SmartStart.  I’m guess she didn’t mistake that for the bowl and was just practicing pouring cereal wherever her little heart felt like.
  • But my favorite is us at the post office…Lexi standing in her cherry silk jammies with American flag Crocs because I didn’t feel like fighting with her and Emma is putting on my lipstick.  Like dark lipstick.  Not the gloss kind. Lexi then gets my phone because she likes to see what’s on the camera.  She then starts taking pictures of the lady’s butt in front of us.  I think the lady behind us in line was chuckling while I literally laughed out loud while telling her to not do that.  Then Emma gets my phone while Lexi puts on lipstick and Emma starts playing Akon’s Smack That in the uber quiet post office where about 12 people are patiently waiting in line.  Yeah, we were the rednecks that day.

So while the house is clean, the last 48 hours haven’t been uneventful.

Did anyone else notice most of those started with Lexi??

The dentist owns me

May 15, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Geesh, I just took Lexi for a cleaning two weeks ago and Emma went today.  Then we have FOUR more appointments in the next few weeks for fillings.  Yes, unfortunately Emma has two cavities and since they’re on opposite sides of her mouth they have to do it in two sittings.  The exciting news from today though?  Emma’s two front teeth are loose!!  I was really shocked as Emma hasn’t mentioned and I had NO CLUE it started this early…apparently I need a “What to Expect” book for school age children because I feel so unprepared for all this new stuff!  Anyway, she said it could take anywhere from 2 weeks to a few months for them to fall out based on how much she tries to wiggle them.  I’m scheduling portraits pronto so I get some good pictures…wahhhh…my baby is growing up.

OK, yes, I’m a day late on the Mother’s Day post. This weekend was crazy busy. My Internet was gone Friday night and we were out of town Saturday evening and then gone all day Sunday. So yesterday was basically spent at church and then our parents’ houses. We spent THREE hours at Texas Roadhouse yesterday evening. It was almost as busy as Outback was the night before. The girls and I did manage a quick picture when we came home between parents’ houses.

This is the card Emma made me at school. It was a fill-in the blank and she drew pictures with each one.

My favorite thing about my mommy is that she plays Dora with me.

My mommy looks prettiest when she goes to church.

My favorite food my mommy cooks is cookies!

If I could give my mommy something special, just from me, it would be a puppy.

And finally, here’s part of the video they showed yesterday at church. I LOVE how Emma is looking at Lexi expecting her to say I love Mommy while Lexi searches for the right words and then rolling her eyes at saying Happy Mother’s Day.

Emma today

May 8, 2008 by Amy 3 Comments

We saw our first Smart Car here around town today.

Me: Girls, look at that little car!

Emma:  Awwww. *pause*  Awwww.

———————————————————

Emma: Purple and pink.  Black and white. Gold and silver. Horseys and cows.  They all go together don’t they mommy?  Is that a good idea because I’m thinking it is.

———————————————————

While I’m on the phone 5 feet away with a lovely representative from our Insurance company…

Emma (loudly): Mommy!  There’s a ball of poop on the floor!!

Have I mentioned Lexi’s still not doing well with potty training?

I Wanna See Jesus

May 6, 2008 by Amy 3 Comments

Dropping off the girls from preschool, Emma and Lexi were out of their seats while in line. Lexi was in the front passenger seat beside me and Emma was standing in the back between us. I had given Emma my iPhone and she was looking at YouTube videos and saw where I had looked up some American Idol videos. She leaned forward to show me and Lexi caught a glimpse of the screen..

Lexi: I wanna see Jesus!

Me: That’s not Jesus, honey, that’s Jason Castro.

Lexi-ism

May 5, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

I just found this note of a conversation between Emma and Lexi on the way out of the awards ceremony on Thursday. They were galloping through the parking lot in their dresses and Lexi had stopped and was walking…

Emma: Lexi! Ride your horsey!

Lexi (matter-of-factly): My horsey’s dead.
