Pageant update

August 30, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Completely unclimatic but the pageant director emailed me to say that Lexi is the ONLY competitor in her age group so I assume that means she wins by default and will be going to state.  I don’t think I’m going to spend the money on getting her hair done this time.

In other really bad news, Emma is actually up a class than we thought and NO ONE can walk with her on stage.  She’s kind freaking out about it and so am I.  Emma is extremely shy and I was thinking this would be ok because I would be with her.  If she freaks out, then I can just pick her up and walk her the rest of the way.  I’m considering not sending the money in and cancelling her spot so no one has to push her on stage or pick her up from a shaking, crying heap on stage.  You never know though, Emma can be quite the entertainer at times (see previous post on HSM2 remix) and might do well.  I hate decision making!

Podcast: Play in new window | Download

While Emma and I were at the church today, I let her “play” with one of the mics and recorded her.  Check out her High School Musical 2 remix.  Sorry about the guy at the beginning…I was too lazy to edit him out.

Talking to Jesus

August 27, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Emma went with me to the church this evening to finish up the podcast stuff.  We got out of the van and were walking to the door and she randomly says “Jesus says things to me sometimes.”  Most things Emma says usually only gets an uh-huh out of me but that stopped me in my tracks.  I bent down to her and asked her what He said.  She kinda clammed up like she was embarrased and said, “I don’t know”.  Hoping to lighten the conversation a little I just got up and held her hand again and continued walking to the church.  She says, “He knows what he says to me.”

Hmm…I didn’t push it hoping she’d open up on her own but I really want to know what He says if He does talk to her.  Lately she’s been asking the question “What cross did Jesus die on?”  I try to understand and say he died on a tree and it was so long ago and I don’t know which tree but after He died, He rose again and went to live in Heaven but one day He’s coming back to get us.  She just says,”Yeah, I know, you already told me that.”  Well, at least I know she’s hearing me even if she doesn’t understand it all yet.  I wonder if Jesus is telling her about Him?

Making of a Stage Mom

August 27, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So next Saturday I’ve entered my girls into a local pageant.  Their cousin was in it last year so we sort of know what to expect.  It’s very, very low-key.  Probably less than 100 people in the audience.  Probably 20 people in the whole pageant.  It’s done in the gym of a local elementary school.  No makeup is allowed and the dresses can even be Sunday School wear.

Why am I doing this you ask?

Well part of me thinks my girls are awfully cute and really hope they win.  Part of me wants to do it for their confidence building.  Neither of my girls are very good in large, new crowds and if they do this, I feel like that is a step in the right direction as far as getting in front of people.  I know I was always terrified of getting in front of crowds and after 5 speeches in college, I was doing much better and now I don’t even turn red sometimes.  And since this is such a low key pageant and not very expensive, I just want to see if they like it or not.  Pageants ARE a good way to earn scholarship money and I’m all for that.

But ya’ll, those little pageant dresses get EXPENSIVE. As in one dress can be up to $750 when you get to the fancy stuff.  INSANE.  I went to a local boutique and they had Buy 1 Get TWO free and bought them matching pink silk dresses.  Lexi really did like the pink dress though once I showed it to her so I’ve borrowed my niece’s blue dress from last year and she seems into after my SIL pointed out that she’d look like Cinderella.  Why I even asked the two year old which dress she was going to wear, I don’t know. I  mean, really.  I should have just said, put this on! two minutes before going on stage.

I am going to have their hair done by a lady in my church.  Emma looked so cute when she did it for C’s wedding and Lexi has never had her hair curled in any way so I’m very curious as to how it will look.  The blue dress has some detail on the back so I don’t want to leave it all down, but I also want to show off her long hair.

Yes, I know I could be one of those moms.

I’m very concerned that the pageant starts at 3pm, the exact time Lexi starts having a breakdown every day and refuses to take a nap.

So I’m thinking both girls can go either way with this.  They will get out on stage and be so proud of their outfits and hair and have a big smile on their face and wave to people in the crowd.  OR, Emma will have a complete shy moment and hide her head in my side on stage, possibly with tears in her eyes and Lexi will be crying about her dress she has on, rip out any hair bow she has in her hair, and then I’ll have to carry her around the stage, completely defeating the purpose.

Let’s hope it’s the smiley, wavy stuff.

Generation to generation

August 26, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

img_7961.JPGThere were two pictures taken today that had some sentimental value to me.

The first is a picture of three generations of sisters. The eldest is my mom and her sister. The second is myself and my sister and the third set is of course my two girls. From left to right it is Lexi, me, Emma, Heather, my aunt and my mom. As you can see, it was at the end of the day and my girls are quite tired but I’m sure we will cherish this picture for awhile. I think it’s quite possible one day we could do a picture of four generations of sisters…that would definitely be unique.

img_7958.JPGThe second picture is from us leaving the birthday party today. Emma really didn’t want to leave S, her cousin that is one year younger than her. So S ran out to say one last bye. The picture is of them talking at the door right before we left. This completely reminds me of my cousin and I. The two of us were only 6 days apart and until we were in our “mid-teens”, we were quite inseparable when we were together. We live 8 hours apart and always spent every minute together at my great-grandmother’s when my family travelled up there twice a year. What really made this one bring up the memory is this is at Scott’s grandmother’s house and that old metal screen door was very similar to my great-grandmother’s. It makes me smile every time I see that picture.

Mommy Talk addition

August 26, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

img_7729.JPGTonight I have a picture to back up this one.  We were on the way to a birthday party and Lexi pipes up, “Daddy, it’s ok, Daddy’s, it’s ok.”  We look back and Lexi has taken a bite out of the birthday card which led to me saying:

“Lexi, you ate the birthday card! You don’t eat birthday cards, that’s not nice!”

Playtime Conversations

August 25, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

These are all taken while Emma and I are playing doctor with Polly Pocket characters.  She was the dr and I was the nurse.

Emma:  The dolls are falling down!  This is a silly situation!

———————————————————————————-

Emma: Put these high heels on.  She’s going to look so high-heely.

———————————————————————————-

Me: OK, dr, we’ve seen all our patients.  What should we do?

Emma: I don’t know

Me: I think we should go shopping.

Emma (coming out of character):  Uh, mommy, doctors don’t go shopping.

Me: Well then what should I do?

Emma: You should go arrange stickers.  Do you know what arrange means?  It means to put stuff out.

Me: Is that what nurses are supposed to do?

Emma: Yes

———————————————————————————-

Me: What is wrong with Polly, doctor?

Emma (out of character): um, mommy, what is wrong with her?

Me (out of character and with my hand on my chin): the flu

Emma: duhflu?

Me (laughing): No, the flu.

Emma: Can we just call it duhflu?

Me: Yes, that’s fine.

Emma (back in character): Ok, Polly has duhflu

Be happy!

August 22, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

S is over here and she disobeyed Scott and it was something that could get her hurt so Scott gave her a spanking (yes, we have permission from his sister to do so).  Lexi and Emma peaked around the corner where Scott was explaining to S why she was getting a spanking and Lexi says to Emma in a somewhat worried voice, “S is getting a spanking.”

So Scott and S walk out of the kitchen and Lexi says to Scott,

Daddy, be happy!
