it’s friday!

July 13, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

reading.jpgGlad it’s Friday.  This week went extremely quick even though it was very low-key all week.  I’m going to miss summer camp next week.

Tonight I braved Target by myself with the two girls even though Lexi was SO tired.  But I really wanted to get Scott’s birthday card and ingredients for the birthday dessert I’m making him tomorrow so I didn’t have to worry about anything but making it in the morning before lunch when his family is coming over.  The girls were great at Target so I decided to make a run for the grocery store to get the lemon and whipping cream that Target didn’t have.  Hang on, I have to insert Emma and I’s conversation on whipping cream.

Emma: What did you say?

Me: Heavy. Whipping. Cream.

Emma: Heby Whooping Cream?

Me: No, Hea-vy. Whipping. Cream.

Emma: Heavy Whooping Cream?

Me[trying to extremely clear]: No. Heavy. Whipping. Whipping. Cream.

Emma: Heavy Whipping Whipping Cream?

Me (laughing): No, just Heavy. Whipping. Cream. You say each word once. Heavy Whipping Cream.

Emma: Heavy Whipping Cream?

Me: Yes, Heavy Whipping Cream.

That still makes me laugh–heavy whipping whipping cream.  Anyway, on with the story…Lexi fell asleep about a quarter of a mile before the store but I went in anyway thinking she would wake up long enough to go in there.  But no, I carried a very heavy 2 year old throughout the store.  I skipped on the cart and had Emma carry the two ingredients through the store.  Lexi stayed asleep through the re-installment into the car seat and trip into the house to her bed too.  When we got home, Emma played some computer games while I cleaned up the house.  It was mostly straightened since our dinner last night, I just did the dusting and bathrooms and such.

After that, Emma and I did some of her reading lessons and guess what?  She read TWO words tonight  “mat” and “sat”.  She catches on so quickly, we do like 5 lessons at a time and it repeats itself so she’s like Mom!  I know those sounds!  I end up skipping some of the stuff just because we are doing so much in one sitting.  Probably the next session she will get to the one where she reads the sentences “see me read”.  I may cry when she does that.

So now I’m doing laundry and getting ready to watch Miss Potter which I’ve heard good reviews on.

you learn something new every day

July 7, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I just learned from one of the girl’s cartoon programs that giraffes do not have vocal chords.  I always had trouble producing the giraffe sound when coming to the giraffe in an animal book with the girls.  I feel redeemed.

please restrain your child

July 6, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Well, yesterday afternoon went eat, shop, eat, movie.  Sort of like I thought it would be.

We ate at our favorite restaurant D’Atri’s and had a great steak sub.  We headed to the mall after that.  I only bought one shirt for the whole trip.  The girls were absolutely losing their minds by the end of it, crawling on the floor and meowing in the shoe department.  So Dad took me home with the girls where they played a little until the rest of them got home and we headed to dinner at an Italian restaurant with my aunt and uncle.  Lexi and Emma were not well-behaved there either.  There were two older couples sitting at a table beside us. Emma had her baby blanket with her and swung it around to put around her like Little Red Riding Hood and hit the woman on the shoulder I think with it.   The other lady said something to Emma and if looks could kill, both of my children would have fallen down dead.  She continued to give looks anytime the kids said or did anything above a whisper.  I was annoyed too.  At one point, they were playing hide and seek under the table and were playing ballerina beside the table.  It was embarrassing.  But at the same time, Lexi is 2.  TWO.  I only have so much control over her.  Have you ever tried to literally shut a child up or restrain them so they don’t run around?  Even if you wanted, it’s nearly impossible.  The mother in me got defensive and wanted to scream at the woman and ask her if SHE ever had any children and it must have been too long ago that she must not remember how difficult it is and please give us a little compassion and patience.  Ugh, that grated on my nerves the whole evening and I think it still might a bit.  Dinner was overall good though.  I had a huge crab cake and it was great to see my family.

They came over to the house after dinner and watched Shooter with us.  Since I have recently watched that movie twice, I put the girls to bed and gave up halfway through it to also go to bed.   Mom got up with the girls this morning and I slept until after 9:30.  There was nothing to eat here and Emma was starting to ask for chips and cookies for breakfast, so I headed to the grocery store and bought stuff to make pancakes, eggs and bacon which I did when I got home.  Now the girls are chilling watching Curious George.  I would like to get ready and take them to a local park or maybe the Dollar General to get some paint and book supplies for them.  Who knows what we’ll do though.

fireworks

July 5, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

We ended up staying in Hagerstown last night for the fireworks.  We drove to a local ball field at about 8:30 and waited until 9:30 for them to start.  Both the girls were really tired but insisted on staying awake to wait for them.  I don’t think either has seen a proper fireworks display yet.  They sat in our laps while my two young cousins ran around like crazy little boys the whole time.  Emma at one point asked the youngest one “Why were you running back and forth so much?”  There was a really good band that played while we waited and I think everyone from around 30 miles around Hagerstown had come out.  People had set out tents to sell funnel cakes and glow in the dark bracelets, etc.

I think Lexi must have smoked something before watching the fireworks because she kept saying “Diego and Dora!” and “Holly Hobbie” every time certain fireworks went off.  Not sure if she was hallucinating or there was something about the color or something that reminded her of the characters she had watched all day in the van. I’m not sure, we all kept looking at each other like What is she talking about??  Emma kept saying things like it’s “Huge!  humongous!  Enormous!  It’s bee-you-ti-ful!”  They both loved them and I was thankful because there’s nothing worse than trying to calm down a baby or toddler that’s scared of fireworks.  So, it was a really fun time with the family.

i wanna go home!

July 5, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Yesterday on the way up, about 30 minutes into the drive Lexi whined “I wanna go home.”  She continued to do that 5-6 more times until she insisted “I wanna go home and play with my toy-ees!!”  Poor thing, little did she know she still had 6 more hours of riding and 4 more days until she got home.

We miss you, old house

June 30, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Emma:  Why did Grandma have to get a new house.

Me: She just wanted one.

Emma: I miss the old house.

Me: I miss the old house a little too.

Emma: I miss it a lot.

Me: What do you miss about the old house?

Emma: Everything.

Aww…I knew she might have a hard time.  Poor thing.  And really, I miss it a lot too.

A Blur

June 25, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Today was a blur.  I had a hard time getting up this morning.  Lexi woke me up.  I think she may have slid out of Emma’s bed last night (they requested to sleep together last night..and tonight, in fact).  Then the storms were so bad, I couldn’t go back to sleep and then it seemed like I was up every hour.

I worked consistently this morning and then after lunch we went to Mom’s house while our carpet got cleaned.  The rest of the evening was spent at church.  This week is VBS.

Both girls are in the 3-5 class.  Lexi was NOT having it at first but apparently found someone to latch onto and then was fine.  It killed me to walk by and see that scared/confused/someone help me look on her face and not go sit in the class with her the whole time.  I’m not teaching this year.  I’m the technical director whatever that means.  Tonight all I did was hunt around for a DVD player and RCA jacks and then took pictures all night.

The good news is the girls were wiped out by the time we did that, went to the bank, post office and grocery store after that and came home.  They ate a doughnut, put their jammies on and were asleep within 5 mintues, literally.  So here I am.  Scott is at work, I’m on my computer listening to Kelly Clarkson’s new CD and there is absolutely no furniture in the living room.

Busy day

June 23, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So today’s day was a little more predictable than last Saturday.  I did end up cleaning the house.  However, I forgot I had to work today and worked from 12-1.  The girls came home soon after that and I wasn’t quite done cleaning.  I did get the last few things done while MIL stayed and helped get the girls fed.  I was extremely hot by the end of cleaning and the girls were eating on the back porch and it was so hot, I just told everyone to get their suits on and we were going swimming.   Well, MIL had just bought them new suits so they were wanting to go but I had planned on waiting until Scott got back from helping C&D move but it was just too hot.  It happened that Scott pulled up right after I said that.  So we all got in the pool.  S was scared to death.  But finally after having a floatie swimsuit, armband swimmies AND a ring, she realized she was ok and then didn’t want to get out.  Let me tell you, unless the girl turned completely upside down, there was no way on earth she was going to drown.

Scott signed up to work extra hours directing traffic from the baseball game so he left not too long after we got out of the pool.  Me and the girls stopped and got some take out and went to Mom’s house.  I helped a little sorting Mom’s shoes and such.  It’s such a gigantic mess there, you kind of go in circles wondering where in the world to start.

Scott ended up taking a break after everyone got in the game and he met us at Bruester’s for ice cream.  We left from there and went home. The girls watched a little bit of Aladdin and have requested to sleep together in Emma’s bed.  They both got out of bed and came in the living room and I took them back to bed.  I told them if they got out of bed, I’d have to put Lexi in her own room.  Last I heard walking out of Emma’s room was Emma saying, Come on, Lexi, let’s go to sleep.  I haven’t heard a peep since I came back in here and I’m sure they’re both out.  MIL said last night after we dropped them off at 7 when Lexi was asleep, she didn’t wake up until 9 this morning.  I think that might be a record and I don’t understand why she can’t be a sleepyhead like that when she’s at home!
