The Patient

September 5, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

img_8253.JPGHere’s our lovely patient.  He can’t seem to sleep today, only getting in about an hour of decent sleep.  So now he’s watching some of his favorite movies in our room and just relaxing.  He’s gotten up to walk a few times but he’s wobbly and dizzy.  He keeps saying he’s going to go to church tonight but that’s not happening if it’s up to me.

He has been a great patient this time, not saying anything embarrassing to the nurses, not demanding in the least and quite patient and appreciative of me.  So far so good.

We’re back

September 5, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Home from surgery.  The surgery was exactly as planned…7:45-10:15.  No surprises.  But Scott was in quite a bit of pain afterwards.  We expected his arm to be completely numb but he could move his fingers and he was hurting up in his shoulder.  They gave him pain pills right before he left and I don’t think they had kicked in.  He got nauseous on the way home.  I put him in bed when we got home and then ran to the pharmacy while his cousin was still here.  When I got back he STILL wasn’t asleep.  He said he couldn’t get comfortable.  I’m hoping he’s out before I go get the girls so I can leave knowing he’s comfortably settled.

Here comes the pageant

September 4, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So the pageant is quickly approaching and after the big surgery day tomorrow, I’m sure it will be Saturday before I know it.  I took a little bit of time to practice “the walk” with Emma tonight turning her free space in her room into a stage and telling her to walk to the front left corner and then right.  It was a hoot.  She was swinging those hips and propping her hand on her hip like a pro.  If she does anything remotely as cute as that on Saturday, we’ll all be at least entertained even if the judges aren’t impressed.  She did decide to do it though after I told her she had to walk on stage by herself in order to get a crown.  I hope I have that right…maybe it’s a trophy she gets.

Lexi is still insisting she doesn’t want to try on either of her pageant dresses yet was excited when we practiced our walk together.  It wasn’t anything serious.  I just told her to wave to Grandma and Pappy when we stood at each corner.

I think I’ve been asking too many questions to the director because in her last email she says “Don’t stress on any of this!”  While I’m not creating any stomach ulcers over the thing, I have been trying to get the money, dresses, shoes, hair, socks, hairbows, photos, etc. all in order so Saturday is just a show up and walk the stage type deal.  My game plan is for me to be frazzled now and then be calm on Saturday so the girls don’t freak out and think it’s a big deal.  Because really it all boils down to about a 30 second walk on Saturday.

Oh, and Lexi is now 1 of 3 in her category so her attendance in State is not guaranteed.  Which, honestly, when I found that out, I was like, whew.  Having to do all this out of town is even more stressful!  I guess I’ll hold off on stressing on that one and just stress about this one for now…

Tomorrow is the day

September 4, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So tomorrow is the big surgery day.  If you want to know how Scott got his collarbone broken a year ago…he’s posted the story on his blog.

I think we’ve got the bases covered for tomorrow.  Medicine ordered, babysitters scheduled, I even straightened up the house–again–in case someone decides to come see about him tomorrow.  That’s on a tip from him, knowing how all this Southern, Baptist culture works. I wouldn’t think anyone would drop by the day you have surgery, but I’m guessing at least a few will come so they can say Sunday they went to see Scott after his surgery on Wednesday.  Sorry for the sarcasm and cynicism but sometimes I wonder about some people’s intentions.  I know some people are truly concerned and want the person to know they care but sometimes you just need to make a phone call and let a person rest for goodness sakes.  There, glad that’s out BEFORE anyone in particular decides to visit tomorrow.

I haven’t been nervous at all about the surgery up until now.  The dr’s seem to be treating as if it’s done every day.  I’m hoping that’s the case and there are no complications once they get in there to take a look at it.  I’m a little nervous tonight.  Not sure if I’ll be able to go to sleep well tonight even though I’ll probably need to be up by 6:45 in the morning, which is WAY early for me.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do for 2 hours while I’m there.  Probably update Twitter incessantly–cause you know it’s a new online toy I’ll be playing with until I get tired of it and never visit again–maybe take a book to read.  I really should take advantage of 2 hours of quiet time with no husbands, kids or computer.  I need to think about this carefully.  What would you do for two hours in a doctor’s office?

Scott’s surgery scheduled

September 4, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Scott will be in surgery tomorrow from 7:45 until around 10:15.  We’ve got his cousin coming over in the morning to stay with the girls until his sister comes to pick them up for school.  We should be back and have Scott settled in so I can go pick up the girls at 12.  Whew, tomorrow is going to be crazy I think.  Let’s just pray the surgery goes well through all that.

Happy Labor Day

September 3, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Is that the right thing to say on Labor Day?  Happy Labor Day?  It works I guess.

‘Member last night I said I was going to catch up on some sleep?  That was around 9:30?  I went to sleep right after that and didn’t wake up until 11:15 today!!!  Woah, I haven’t slept that long probably in, well, 5 years.  Needless to say, I didn’t get the house cleaned this morning as planned.

We went and got the girls and had lunch at his mom and dad’s house.  Emma stayed over there to play with S and Lexi came home with us.  I was cleaning up and Scott was supposed to sit with Lexi in the recliner to put her to sleep for a nap but this is how I found him after coming out of the bedroom:

Scott asleep with two of Lexi’s blankies but no Lexi.  Thanks, babe.

This is what I was working on in the bedroom this afternoon…

My closet looked like it had thrown up.  I hadn’t put away any clothes fom the trip, my shoes were out, clean clothes were mixed in there I never put up before we left, my dry cleaning was still hanging, some clothes on hangers had fallen off, etc.  But this is after I finished:

So Mom and Dad and Heather came over for dinner and swimming.  Turns out the water was pretty cold and dirty though and only Lexi really ended up swimming.  I think we’re closing it up for the summer tomorrow.  Scott has his surgery on Wednesday and the girls start preschool tomorrow so it seems like a good time.

So I think that catches us up.  Let me just say another note on this past weekend though.  This weekend we really did have a great time.  J&J were SO easy going and pretty much catered to anything we wanted to do and really it seemed to match up with what they wanted to do.  And ya’ll, I don’t think the four of us have felt like a family more than this weekend.  I felt it with me, Emma and Scott when we lived in Columbia.  That “we’re on our own now” kind of feeling but since Lexi was born, we haven’t really had that.  But this weekend was a first.  It felt so great.  I really felt like we were a family.  I don’t know if I can explain that in any other way but just wanted to say it felt great and we will definitely be doing more vacations/outings without family in the future.

The Beach – Day 2 – The Morning

September 1, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Let’s start off with some EXCITING news.  I got stung by a jellyfish.  Twice.  Yep.  And it hurts.  I am still feeling the sting hours later.  I was standing in knee high water or so holding Lexi up (thank goodness) and felt like electric suckers had attached to my leg.  I started to run out of the water and got it on the other leg.  A lifeguard was on duty and sprayed some vinegar on it.  The welts came up within 5 or 10 minutes.  Probably baseball size on each leg.  Sort of felt like someone had put a hot pan on each leg and I was just badly burned.  So yeah, that’s the big news for the day I guess.

The girls were up early this morning.  We were on the beach by about 9.  The girls had a blast on the beach digging in the sand.  Lexi did have to go to the water several times to get cleaned off and eventually ended up taking her bathing suit off and left her in her swimmie diaper because she didn’t like the attached skirt since it kept getting dirty when she’d sit down.  We stayed until 12 or so and then headed for the pool/hot tub again.  We were upstairs for lunch by 1 and now just hanging out while everyone gets ready.

I think we’re going to head out to the Alligator Adventure, go out to dinner and maybe some shopping or something.
