The Beach – Day 1

August 31, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

We left the house about 3 today and got here right before 7.  The kids were great on the way down with Lexi sleeping for over an hour and the DVD keeping them busy in between.  We headed straight for the sand when we got here.  I opted no swimsuits for the evening but took the opportunity for pictures.  I think I got some really cute ones.  But Scott forgot the cord for the camera so unless we buy one here, they’ll have to wait.  I did snap a few to my flickr account though.

So I gave Lexi a big speech about the sand.  Making sure she knew she’d get her feet dirty and it was ok and we’d wash them when we were done playing.  We left our shoes at the walkway and she didn’t even want to stand on the sandy wood but I plopped her down in some soft sand and you could see her little toes curling trying to feel it out.  She liked it.  And they spent the next 30 minutes or so playing on the beach.  You couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.  THAT was heaven on earth.  Being with just the four of us with no one even in hearing distance.  No deadlines or judgements or schedules or work or laundry.  Just us.  J&J were about 3 hours behind us so we went back and cleaned the sand off and changed into our suits and got in the pool and hot tub.  It was the girls’ first times in it and they both loved it.  The water wasn’t nearly as hot as some of them I’ve been in.  But it was great.  Emma’s comment at one point was “This is perfect.”  I agree.

The girls spent the rest of the evening playing, waiting up for J&J to get here.  I just put them to bed a little bit ago.  Hopefully they’ll sleep in a good bit. I could use the rest.  I’m really excited for tomorrow and it looks like we’re staying until Sunday for now.  Yay!

Beach trip

August 30, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So I’m out tomorrow.  We’re leaving around 2 I think and will be back either Saturday night or Sunday afternoon depending on how the girls do.  If it’s a nightmare and they hate the beach (Lexi wouldn’t step on the sand last year), we’ll go ahead and come back, otherwise we’ll stay.  In fact, we may just stay just ’cause we can and we’re not going with family and finally get some time just the four of us.  Well, technically we’re going with J&J and his parents.  There are two condos and we’ll be staying in one with J&J and his parents in the other.  J&J are very easy going and fun to be around and Emma and Lexi LOVE them so I suspect it will be a great weekend.

Surgery confirmed

August 30, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Scott’s surgery is confirmed for Wednesday.  Not sure what time yet though.  The bone has not healed together and instead of bolting it together they are just going to remove the small part of bone at the end.  He said the healing time is about 4 weeks.  It’s an outpatient surgery so no hospital stays.  In fact, it’s not even at the hospital, it’s at a orthopaedic surgery center and from the sounds of it I just drop him off and pick him up.  Depending on the length of it, I may hang around during the surgery.  We’ll know more on Tuesday after he meets with anesthesiologist (sp??).

Scott’s shoulder

August 29, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

After going back and forth about when to get Scott’s collarbone operated on, it’s been scheduled for next Wednesday assuming his xray tomorrow shows it’s still not together.  Let me just tell you, can’t wait for THAT.

Beach trip

August 27, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So I thought our beach trip might be off this weekend.  Originally it was going to be 4 couples sans kids.  Then it turned into 3 then 2 couples.  Now it is us and our kids and one other couple staying at their condos north of Myrtle Beach.

We’ll probably leave Friday afternoon and return either Saturday night or Sunday afternoon.  Haven’t decided yet.  Emma is ecstatic about getting to go the beach this year as our family’s annual trip was cancelled this year.  I’m excited we get to go too.  Can’t have a summer without beach pictures.

Generation to generation

August 26, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

img_7961.JPGThere were two pictures taken today that had some sentimental value to me.

The first is a picture of three generations of sisters. The eldest is my mom and her sister. The second is myself and my sister and the third set is of course my two girls. From left to right it is Lexi, me, Emma, Heather, my aunt and my mom. As you can see, it was at the end of the day and my girls are quite tired but I’m sure we will cherish this picture for awhile. I think it’s quite possible one day we could do a picture of four generations of sisters…that would definitely be unique.

img_7958.JPGThe second picture is from us leaving the birthday party today. Emma really didn’t want to leave S, her cousin that is one year younger than her. So S ran out to say one last bye. The picture is of them talking at the door right before we left. This completely reminds me of my cousin and I. The two of us were only 6 days apart and until we were in our “mid-teens”, we were quite inseparable when we were together. We live 8 hours apart and always spent every minute together at my great-grandmother’s when my family travelled up there twice a year. What really made this one bring up the memory is this is at Scott’s grandmother’s house and that old metal screen door was very similar to my great-grandmother’s. It makes me smile every time I see that picture.

Nice Day

August 25, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

We had a nice day today.  FIL came and got the kids and I headed to get my aunt.  We went clothes shopping for about 5 hours in 3 different stores.  She got a lot of really good deals for my cousin’s girlfriend and I had a great time picking out stuff and not spending money on it!  I couldn’t leave empty handed of course and ended up with stuff for the house.  I got new bath rugs, shower curtain, vase for the dining room, picture for Emma’s room, a pillow…oh, and a new purse.  I actually had a really, really good time with her.

I never thought her and I had much in common but I found out we both like shopping yet are quite indecisive, hence the long shopping trip, we both are weight-conscious and don’t find it extremely hard to moderate what we eat (unlike my mom, sister and grandmother), and we both love peanut butter.  Small, random facts, but I think they count.

We got done shopping about the same time Scott woke up from working last night so I drove my aunt to meet up with my mom and I went home.  Scott and I headed to get the girls.  Scott had slept so long though, he was back off to work about an hour later.  Mom, Dad, Heather and my aunt all came over this evening and cooked steaks on the grill, went swimming and then we all went out for ice cream.

Speaking of moderating my food, the past two days with my aunt her has sacrificed any idea of a diet.  I had been down 1/2 lb below goal at one point this week so let myself have more than I have been lately but I think today put me over the edge.  All ending with a peanut butter and hot fudge sundae at the ice cream place.  Ice cream is definitely my Achilles’ heel.  So hopefully I’ll get back on track on Monday.

I don’t think I have much to report on besides that.  After preparing for Sunday School tomorrow morning, I’ve been trying to pick some more “Vintage Amy” posts this evening and I literally have been laughing out loud to myself.  At 14 it was simply boys, boys, boys.  Geesh.

It’s the weekend!

August 25, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Last night we ended up going out to eat with my Mom, aunt and sister.  It was sort of girls night out thing.  The local restaurant was extremely busy and we ended up ordering while we were still waiting for a table.  Our food came out right before we sat down so it actually worked out pretty nicely.  Sit down and there’s your food.  Lexi fell asleep after she ate though.  Which was nice for the restaurant but then she woke up at home right after 9 and didn’t want to go back to sleep until 11:30 or so.  I had planned to touch up my hair and finish cleaning the house but I had to lay down with her in my bed to convince her to go back to sleep and I didn’t wake up until 3:30 this morning.  So now I’m sitting here doing my hair, trying to get ready before FIL picks up the girls for the day.

Then my orders are to take my aunt shopping for my cousin’s girlfriend who apparently doesn’t have much support from her family so my aunt tries to fill in the gaps.  Me, go shopping?  Why, yes, I can help!  So today should be fun.  The only bad part is my aunt is extremely meticulous. She’s one of those that looks at every. single. thing.  She was in Garden Ridge yesterday for like 5 hours.  No lie.

Alrighty, Emma is calling me to play and since she’ll be gone for the day, I’m going to go sit and play Polly Pocket for a moment….by the way, I did this last night with her and wrote down some things she said.  I’ll have to post that later…
