Food, shopping and a photo-op

December 20, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

That basically describes today. As per the norm around here, we got out of the house at lunch at went to eat at our favorite restaurant D’Atri’s to have the best cheese steak on earth.

After that, we ran around town doing some shopping. Part was in historic downtown (see pictures in the more section) and then Mom and Dad went home with the girls and dropped the rest of us off at the mall for some kid-free shopping. Wow. We walked in and I literally didn’t know what to do. I only had one present left to buy today and not a clue what to get so we literally browsed the entire mall. It actually wasn’t as great as I remembered. Except the Cinnabon part. That was still excellent. I did manage to get that last present and it feels GREAT to be done. Five days to spare too.

This evening was low-key. Mom made spaghetti here at the house and Mom and Dad went out shopping. Now we are watching Napoleon Dynamite if that says anything about how exciting our evening is.

Now if you like, Scott and I did a little mini photo shoot while the grandparents attended the children in the toy store and then joined us afterwards…click on More to see.

We’re Here!

December 19, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

After a long day, we made it to Maryland!

This morning was the girls Christmas program at school.  It was very cute but mostly uneventful except that Emma and her friend were getting a little too excited when their color was shown for them to ring their handbells and were called down by their teacher.  I was surprised Emma didn’t just cry on stage but she handled it ok.  The handbells were so sweet and I’ll have to talk to our music director about getting that at our church.

As soon as it was over we headed up the road and after a stop to my uncle’s we got here around 11 I think.  The girls fell asleep on the way from my uncle’s and somehow managed to stay asleep when we put them in bed.

Everyone else is up catching up on tv and Internet.  That’s it for now although I want to write about a quite embarrassing moment today.  Stay tuned.

Another crazy day

December 18, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Today was a bit crazy.  We will be headed out the door around 8:30 in the morning and won’t be back until Sunday night some time.  Today was all the last minute stuff…post office, laundry, snack shopping, last minute gift shopping, new van tires even.  We’ll be in Maryland for the weekend celebrating Christmas with all of my extended family.  I’m sure it will be a few crazy days up there too.

I’m actually looking forward to the morning though.  The kids have to be there at 9 but we don’t have to be there until 10.  I think we’re going to drop them off and spend the time until 10 at McDonald’s or Dunkin Donuts getting some breakfast.  We haven’t done that in months.  Lexi’s fever broke through the night last night so I think she’s good to go to school in the morning and I can’t wait to see them finally singing all their songs.  Emma will get to dress up as an angel since she is part of the 4 year old class.  I can’t believe this will be her last year there.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to no work for a week.  I took the entire day off tomorrow so I’m officially free for a week–well, I have the pager and taking my laptop but that’s the norm.  I’m guessing postings will be limited tomorrow unless I can manage to finagle my dad’s laptop with his air card away from him for awhile.  Seriously doubting that will happen.

I hate making up post titles – this post is about my day

December 17, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

OK, so after taking the kids to school I headed up to work.  I had a 10:00 meeting I barely made it to.  I’m sitting in there for about an hour and get a call on my cell phone that I don’t recognize but assumed it was the girls’ preschool just because where the number came from.  A voicemail was left right away so I left the meeting only to find out Lexi is sick and needs picked up and she couldn’t get ahold of Scott at home.  So I then call several times to the house and Scott’s cell.  Scott worked last night and was sleeping.  I knew he had set his alarm so he was sure to wake up to pick them up at 12.  I called the school back and left a message saying I was at work and explained Scott’s situation and was going to keep trying.  I finally gave up on Scott and hope she’s calling and go back in my meeting.  A few minutes later I get a call back from the school saying they had talked to Scott and he was on the way.  Crisis averted.  Well sort of.

Lexi had a temperature, fever, croupy cough, was becoming lethargic and wouldn’t eat.  Fabulous.  I called the doctor and made an appointment for Scott to take her this afternoon.  She was put on steroids and told to stay on Tylenol.  When I got home this evening, she was 2 hours into a 3 hour nap.  She’s already back in bed too.

Scott’s parents came over this evening to visit.  We had a good time chatting while the girls played with S who came with them.  After they left, I ran out to CVS to use up some ECBs that expired Saturday.  We’re headed up to Maryland Wednesday afternoon and who knows if they have a CVS or what the rules are up there.  I just didn’t want to chance it so I spent them.  And plus, the sales are the same probably so may as well get it done with.

Now I’m catching up with all my Internet stuff and doing some laundry in preparation for this weekend’s trip.  So that’s it.

Before I go, two quick requests…pray that Lexi gets better before Wednesday so she might get to do her Christmas play at school and she’ll be good to go for our long car trip and pray for my grandmother as she has a chemo treatment tomorrow.

I Heart Chris Daughtry!

December 16, 2007 by Amy 2 Comments

If you haven’t been reading long you may not know my addiction to love of Chris Daughtry.  It literally started when I first saw him on American Idol.  Read this post and see.  Don’t you love how I picked the top 5 from the very beginning?  I digress.  I saw him in concert back in the spring and loved it.

But tonight was awesome.

Heather and I dropped the girls off at MIL’s since Scott is working tonight. We stopped in at Ruby Tuesday’s and split their New Orleans fish and Sirloin.  Yum.  Started the night right.  I was really worried about parking and lines on nearby roads because their known to back up.  Apparently this wasn’t causing too much of a raucous because there were no lines and when we got in the parking lot, we were literally a few parking spots away from being right at the building.  We walked right in and found our seats 30 minutes early.  The place was almost packed.  Heather had heard it was not sold out and indeed no one sat in the two seats at the end of our row to our right.

The concert opened with two acts.  One was You Are, I Am.  They were ok.  Next up was an AWESOME Canadian band called The Midway State.  I think they may be better in person but they were so cool to listen to.  Very sweet lyrics to their rock songs.  The lead singer/piano player Nathan has this huge afro but the boy can play and sing.  I highly recommend you check them out.

So on to my camera story.  The tickets said no cameras but come on.  Most places let you get away with it.  There were these ladies standing in the aisles helping people to their seats.  The one near us looked like a mean school teacher according to Heather.  I agreed.  I was scared to take my camera out.  So I waited until the lights went out.  I took a few (Heather’s says lots) pictures with my flash and this woman almost comes running at me with her flashlight and says, "You can not take any more pictures or you will be thrown out!"  Yikes, yes, ma’am.  And then I see the same woman actually go tell a girl to put her cell phone up and she can not take any pictures.  It was awful.  As you can see below though, I eventually snuck the camera out with no flash and took some pictures.

So as for Chris’s performance, the Greensboro concert paled in comparison.  Obviously the sound and lighting was better because we were inside.  But it was extra good because the place he played at was pretty small.  And we were on row V so it wasn’t too far back.  He basically sang his entire album plus did some Motley Crue, John Lennon and other covers.  They were really cool.  He also sang a song he just wrote in Australia.  It was a ballad. We had a hard time understanding what he was saying but he sounded good.

I just love that Chris’s voice is so real.  What you hear on the album is what you get in person.  If not better.  He also tries to switch up a few places and make it sound a little better and it sounds cool.  The crowd was screaming the whole time. We were on our feet the whole time.  And then at the end Heather says, "I think he just said to come down front."  I basically threw my camera on my purse, left everything and pushed Heather out the aisle to run down.  I was then within four feet or so of the stage.  At the end he shook the crowd’s hands.  I tried so hard to get close enough but I was about a foot short of getting to him.  Heather apparently was a bit sneakier because she kept moving down the stage with him, threw herself over the crowd and got to shake his hand!!  Lucky girl.

But that was basically it.  He went off-stage after that never to return.  My throat hurts from screaming and our choir cantata is in the morning.  Tonight was awesome.  Now enjoy the few pictures I got.  Also check my flickr account soon.  I’ll put some I took out there too.

Oh, and be sure to scope out the drummer in the pictures :).

Do nothing night

December 14, 2007 by Amy 2 Comments

As planned, we basically did nothing this evening.  We went to Mom’s housewarming thingy at lunch where we were able to get our Christmas pictures taken too.  Emma wanted to stay there but Lexi wanted to come home.  I guess she was partied out from the week because she fell asleep and took a nap for most of the afternoon.  When she got up and Scott left for work, Lexi and I stopped at Walgreens to get our Christmas cards – they turned out great – and then went to Mom’s and hung out there the whole evening.  The girls alternated between playing, eating and watching movies.  I ate and worked on my other site.

I’m still spending quite a bit of time on it while I get stuff up to date.  I got all set up on adwords today since I got $50 with my bluehost account.  And can I just take a moment to say I see why Jaynee keeps saying how great it is.  I had an issue with my email account and was able to chat with a tech support guy within minutes and he was able to help me out right away.  Awesome!  And the free adwords stuff was very cool too.  I saw a difference almost immediately.

Anyway, certainly don’t want to make this blog all about that blog but it is taking a lot of my time right now.

Tomorrow morning we’ll be spending two hours at choir practice and then tomorrow night is the big DAUGHTRY night!  Woo Hoo!  With such a busy week I’ve hardly been able to get excited about it but tomorrow night at this time I’ll be seeing Chris with my own eyes.  Yay!!!

I’m starting to zone out

December 13, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

This busy week is catching up on me.  Normally at 10:39 I’m just excited I have another hour and a half or so of Internet alone time.  Wow, that sounded creepy.  Tonight though I’m literally having to hold my eyebrows up to type this.

Tonight’s "holiday function" was dinner at our house with J&W and D&D.  Apparently W did not communicate at all with J about coming to our house so while he had planned to come and communicated that back to us, he sorta forgot to tell her.  So she had other plans she couldn’t break.  So J&W didn’t come :(.  But we still had a very nice dinner.  I managed to whip up and pretty good dinner of roast beef, baked potatoes, cheesy broccoli and cauliflower, salad and bread.  D brought some brownies to top it off.  Yum.my.  The girls had a great time playing as usual.  We had to drag them away from playing to eat.  Presents were exchanged and we got a very, very pretty and comfy throw and gift card to Blockbuster.

Our busyness is not ending for a few days though.  Tomorrow for lunch we have to go to my mom’s open house/housewarming thing.  She’s having her pastor dedicate it and such.  Saturday morning is choir practice and that evening is the Daughtry concert!  Yay!  Maybe I’ll get a tiny break tomorrow evening before I totally want to crash Sunday afternoon after our choir cantata.
