Hair cuts and refrigerators

August 18, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

img_7624-1.JPGEven though the waterpark adventure got cancelled for me yesterday, I still took the afternoon off.  Mom took the kids and Scott and I went to the mall and I got a hair cut.  I paid major bucks because my new stylist I had found in town here was on vacation so I went back to my long-time stylist at Toni & Guy.  More money I think was spent on “products” than the actual hair cut.  I’m such a sucker for those sweet smelling Bed Head products.  And the do make a difference when I’m trying to duplicate the style at home.  Or maybe it’s all in my head.  Who knows.  There’s just something about walking through the mall with a new haircut and a bag full of hair products that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

img_7619.JPGWhile we were at the mall, we finally broke down and bought a Kenmore refrigerator at Sears.  We paid a little extra to have it delivered today and so far I really like it.  The old fridge was owned by the last owner and it’s kind of nice to have a new one of our own.  Plus, this has the water and ice dispensers on the front.  It’s a faux stainless steel on the front and black on the side.  It’s not a fake painted gray color, but something I think they call satin stainless that looks exactly like stainless steel but doesn’t leave fingerprints and is also magnetic.  So yay, one thing off our to-buy list.

plans foiled

August 17, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

My plans for the waterpark were foiled.  So I’m sitting here.  Yeah.  bummer.

Mom forgot about an important dr’s appt this morning and then Lexi went a got this horrendous diaper rash thingy that makes her miserable and I didn’t feel comfortable leaving her with Scott’s grandmother and L was not available so I didn’t get to go.

The girls still stayed the night over at Mom’s but I left her house at 10:30 last night after watching the SYTYCD finale and then was over here at 7:45 so she could go to her appt.  I brought my laptop over here and am working.  Not sure why I just didn’t take the kids home?!

Off to the waterpark

August 16, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I will be gone the entire day tomorrow with the youth group as our last hoorah of the summer at the waterpark in Greensboro, NC.  We have a decent group of 26 students going and 4 chaperones.  My kiddies are staying with my mom tonight and Scott will be sleeping because he works tonight. That means I get an entire day to act like a teenager at a waterpark.  Maybe I’ll come home with phone numbers written in my hand  stored in my phone.  Gosh, I’m getting old.

Unisom is my friend

August 15, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I still was out of it last evening and determined I hadn’t done two things well in awhile and that was to go the gym and go to bed at a reasonable time.  So I did both last night.

We ate dinner at IL’s house and I immediately came home and went to the gym for about 45 minutes.  Then immediately came home and took a Unisom.  I think I was actually asleep by 10.  I’m feeling much better today.

off day

August 14, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I think I’m having an off-day.  We stayed up last night to watch Premonition…I’ll post a separate review next.  Then I stayed up and watched VH1 hoping to catch a rerun of Scott Baio’s show I missed last night.  But no, I ended up watching the Hogan show and part of the Pick up artist show until some time after midnight, I don’t really remember.  Then Lexi fell out of bed last night and then was in bed with me early this morning.  My eyes hurt and I’m tired.  Scott had to go to some training today and I didn’t schedule L to come today so I’m fielding requests for things like eggs and bacon and tearing out coloring sheets all while trying to work on something I don’t really care to be working on right now.  So here I am complaining instead of doing any of it.

Keeping busy

August 11, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Keeping busy this weekend but nothing extremely exciting to report.  Almost all our spare time is spent in the pool.  It has been so nice this week with the temp over 100.

Last night after we dropped the kids at ILs to spend the night, we went out to eat at Rafferty’s for our we-didn’t-get-to-go-out-for-our-anniversary dinner.  When we got home we I (Scott fell asleep within minutes) watched Deja Vu.  That was an excellent. movie.  That might be a good one to buy.  And I don’t do that often.

This morning I stayed in bed until about 10 and then cleaned, cleaned and cleaned some more until dinner time.  Then Scott and I made dinner for us and Mom, Dad and Heather.  We made our “famous” Tilapia dinner including sweet potato casserole, corn on the cob, yeast rolls and brownies and banana pudding for dessert.  Yum.  So now Emma is watching some recorded LazyTown and Lexi fell asleep literally in the pool while Heather was holding her.

I need to get something together for Sunday School in the morning.  I skipped a few lessons through the year so now I’m left with nothing these next few weeks.

We also have Disturbia for us me to watch tonight.  I heard it might be hard to sleep after that so maybe I’ll get to make some more updates to my theme later on…

Weekend catch-up

August 6, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Wow, that was a pretty busy weekend.

WW Day 11 or 12

I’ve been holding steady all weekend despite having to use Flex Points for two days now.

Saturday

Saturday was pool day.  We got in and out of the pool from about 10 that morning to 3 that afternoon.  Scott and I were working on getting the water clean.  Turns out our filter had parts that were broken, causing sand to come out of the filter thing and also we needed chemicals so although the water is a little cloudy still, it’s a clean kind of cloudy now if that makes any sense.  Word on the street is this is the hardest year “pool people” have seen trying to keep a pool’s water clean, so I don’t feel so bad that we haven’t had crystal clear water since filling the thing up back in June.

Saturday was Heather’s birthday so we had dinner at my Mom’s, took the kids to IL’s and my sister and parents and us all went to see Bourne Ultimatum.  Wow, that was a great movie.  I’ll have to post a separate review on that.

Sunday

Sunday our church choir was having a spaghetti dinner fundraiser after church.  After all that, we came home and swam again.  It was definitely a “pool weekend”. With temperatures here hanging around 100, there wasn’t really much else you could do.  Yesterday evening we took the girls with us to a surprise outing with the youth group to a church member’s house.  Can’t really say just house though, more like ponderosa or something.  They live on 14 acres of land.  They have a log cabin which is fixed up as a retreat type thing with a big screen tv, pool table, etc.  They have in ground pool with a 13 foot deep end with an attached little pool house where you could change/use the restroom.  They had a frisbee and volleyball net set up.  It was really, really nice.

Lexi was having a time with the diving board.  Everyone would clear out when it was their turn.  They’d see Lexi walk up and say there’s “daredevil” (they learned quickly she is no stranger to water) and she would jump off that board, trying to hold her legs up like the big kids to do a canon ball and jump right in.  Emma was much more timid.  She’d walk to the end of the board, hold her nose and sort of fall in.  That’s the way it is with them though.  I’m just glad they both aren’t scared of water and even went off it at all.

We had around 50 people go altogether and besides one leader about break her nose when someone dived on her right after she jumped off the diving board and then someone that pushed our pastor who doesn’t know how to swim in the deep-end and people had to jump in with all their clothes to literally save his life, it was a really good time.  Yes, some very serious close calls but honestly the rest of the time was enjoyed by all and I’m sure we will be invading their “house” again for another outing.

Knights game/NewSong concert

August 4, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I planned the Knights game for the youth group last minute.  I mentioned it to our youth council at our meeting Monday and then mentioned it to a few youth on Wednesday.  I had a youth call around to some people Thursday to see if there was interest.  By Friday, we had about 26 people going and I reserved tickets.

We ended up having a really, really good time.  The girls were absolutley fascinated by Home the Dragon and even when he wasn’t in sight, they watched the game.  That is of course between all the eating.  By the end of it, they had had a little bit of chicken, hot dog, cotton candy, funnel cake, ice cream and slushie.  Yeah.  They were full of sugar.  They also had a merry go round and slides and air jump thingies I let them go on for a little bit.  Even after the game (which we won) NewSong came out and set up in front of first base and gave us a great concert.  It was 9 by then and Lexi stayed in my arms and fought sleep, but in a sweet way.  Emma stayed with Scott so we both got to enjoy the concert.  It was actually almost like a small worship service which was really cool out in a baseball stadium.  A lot of people had left after the game and everyone had moved over to the stands in front of first base.  Nate Sallie was there doing most of lead singing, not sure if he’s actually part of NewSong or not.  We left around 10:15 or so and they weren’t even done yet.  I think everyone had a really good time and I’m glad we went.
