- We’re having a yard sale at my Mom’s tomorrow. I spent the long weekend last weekend pulling everything out and pricing it. So proud of myself for not waiting until the last minute. The kids think it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Emma helped me tag almost everything. Lexi just wants to handle the money.
- Lexi has been sick all week and never made it to school.
- I think she’s given it to me. Or something is going on in my throat this morning. No fever yet thank goodness.
- Vampire Diaries just keeps getting better. Really didn’t expect to like it so much.
- The Office was a major letdown after last week. I couldn’t even finish it.
- I’ve officially entered into the world of Podcasts. Kaitlin and I are getting ready to publish our 3rd episode for our Friday Night Lights blog. By the way, are you caught up yet?? You still have 10 days to watch 3 seasons!
- I got 3 new pairs of jeans this week (on sale!). I love jeans.
- ONE WEEK until my return to Twitter and Facebook. I can’t say I haven’t missed it and won’t enjoy the return. I can’t say I want it back exactly like it was either.

Renovation Progress 10/7 – The Mirrors
OMG.
The mirrors are in.
It’s kind of crazy how much light the mirrors reflect.
And it’s kind of crazy just how many reflections of the bathroom you see.
Again, you can check out the post that shows what we started with.
Wow. It’s just about all I can say.
Renovation Progress 10/7
I haven’t done one of these in a while because we haven’t DONE anything in a while. Let’s just say that the Fencing Direct will stop a renovation faster than well, something very clever that I can’t think of right now.
One very important part of the renovation are my bathroom mirrors. You may remember that I wasn’t going to do them and then I got them for free from a friend? I barely remember that because guess how long it’s been?
10 weeks. Isn’t that a bit excessive? And it’s not because we didn’t do our part. The first company lost our work order and almost our mirrors and then BROKE two of the mirrors. Thank goodness they agreed to replace them but did NOT agree to put the holes in them.
We finally got them back and found another local glass company. Then they BROKE the 3rd piece. They did NOT agree to replace it although we knew that up front.
In the end, we’re still only paying for one piece of mirror and the 6 holes required and finally today we get to pick them up.
Here are some before pictures.
And in case you were wondering, all these 10 weeks? I’ve been doing my hair and makeup on my knees so I could see into a mirror from our bedroom that we hung “temporarily”. And yes, there has been blue tape that is covering gaping holes in my walls and mismatched paint viewable this whole time.
If I wasn’t excited before about these mirrors, trust me, I’m ecstatic now. Check back later for hopefully-I’m-praying-please-God-let-the-mirrors-fit-and-not-break after pictures.
Life Interrupted
That’s the way I feel about today. Because over the past week we lost a little of our normalcy.
I think I mentioned Emma was sick through the weekend. No, she doesn’t have swine flu. Just some type of infection that gave her pink eye and an ear infection. Monday morning we decided she still didn’t need to go although the dr had ok’d her to go. Tuesday she seemed ok but by 1 the school nurse called and said her fever was 102.5 and we needed to come get her. She doesn’t seem to have any new symptoms, I just think her body is still fighting off this infection. The nurse suggested we keep her out for the full week. Alrighty then.
Lexi is out of preschool today for a teacher workday.
Scott is off work for holiday leave today.
The cleaning ladies are here today.
I was supposed to go into work today but I decided to stay home.
So nothing feels normal, on-schedule around here today.
But all of us home and someone cleaning my house? Life can get interrupted anytime.
My New Desktop. And not the PC variety.
You may remember Scott’s dire need to change my office around late one night, leaving me with a piece of plywood on two sawhorses to work on. Now, I’m all for retro and I don’t need anything fancy. But I do sit at this desk for 6-8 hours every day and getting splinters simply for moving my arm on my desk is not…desirable. I’ve had my eye on this printed glass top since I first laid eyes on it at IKEA.
Last night we finally bit the bullet and bought it.
One thing I love about IKEA is the ability to get exactly what you want by mix and match. One stand is able to hold my computer and hide the wires and even includes a shelf to store some papers. The other is ironically like a saw horse. The best part is this set was only $135 which is more than fair by any standard for this size desk. I mean, this desk is comparable in price and function but not nearly in style!
I love it. You can’t see it in any pictures, but there are ladybugs and birds and butterflies among the flowers and leaves and it’s just so ME. And I just thought of how cute it would be to paint that piece of plywood and lay the glass on top of it! I might actually attempt to keep my desk clean!
Maybe.
Weekend Recap in Pictures
I wrote last night’s post on my Mac and it did not have the pics on there. This is my lazy at work but here are a few pictures from the weekend:
Weekend Recap
It’s been a quiet weekend in the Bennett household. Emma came home with a fever Thursday afternoon and was home from school Friday along with Lexi (who doesn’t attend on Fridays). I got through a steady day of work and we stayed in for pancakes and eggs for dinner. And I feel like I should mention I’ve cooked dinner every day since returning from Asheville last Sunday except for Thursday when Emma got sick and I had planned for us to go out. *patting myself on the back*
Saturday it seemed Emma’s symptoms had calmed and Lexi woke me up at 7:30 and told me it was time to go to the yard sale. I may have mentioned the community yard sale at the neighborhood next to us. I was game though and we were out of the house by 8. There ended up being 3 community yard sales in our town and we ended up hitting 2 of them over the next 2 hours. We scored some really great items for my nephew’s baby due in January. I even scored a few winter items for Emma and Lexi. Not to mention the donut and coffee from one yard sale.
Saturday around lunch Emma started with pink eye symptoms so we were kind of “stuck” at home. We piddled around the house, cleaning out the van, swinging and then I even…wait for it…made cookies from scratch. As in bring out the flour and melt the butter. They were outstanding cookies. Little did I know it made 3 dozen cookies. Well, technically the bag says 5 dozen. I’ll let you figure out where all that extra batter went.
I had to call in to the doctor to get some eye drops for Emma. In the meantime both girls took a nap and I made fish and shrimp for dinner which Scott and I ended up enjoying by ourselves.
I ended up getting three doses of eye drops in Emma before church this morning and they looked clear so we made it to the service today. I did keep Emma with me in “big church”. She was fantastic and I kind of miss her with me like she used to be in our previous church. She really enjoys the children’s program though. And let me just take a minute to plug North Rock Hill again. I could take 5 more posts to talk about it. In fact, I just wrote and deleted several sentences because I knew I’d get on a really long tangent. ANYWAY. If you are in the area and looking for a church, come check it out. If you aren’t, check out the podcasts and see what’s going on!
This afternoon after lunch at ILs I had to take Emma to the doctor as he requested last night and it turns out she had the beginning of an ear infection. Sure enough a few hours later she started complaining of her ear hurting. Thankfully after a dose of her antibiotic and some Tylenol she said she was fine. Although the doctor said she was ok to go to school tomorrow, she wasn’t 100% tonight. Unless she wakes up 200% in the morning I’ll probably keep her home one more day to recuperate.
This evening we made a quick trip the grocery store and then spent some time with Jake and Jill over coffee and…cookies, of course.
So here are back to Monday. I said it was a quiet weekend at home but maybe I should just say it was a weekend at home. Or maybe just a weekend. But a good one.
Lexi-isms
Lexi: The only thing that makes me happy is root beer, ketchup and chicken.
Emma: You're weird.
Lexi; Yes, I am.
Me: No, I haven't.
Lexi: Your face looks funny.
Me: Do I look weird?
Lexi: Yeah, you have a lot of boo-boos.
