Sometimes It’s OK Not Knowing

March 3, 2009 by Amy 5 Comments

This just showed up in my mailbox:

Me: Did you just order something?

Scott: Yeah.

Me: What is it?

Scott: You don’t want to know.

I really don’t think I do.

Southern (Almost) Spring Snow

March 2, 2009 by Amy 5 Comments

The snow started about 6 last night and stopped some time during the night.  School was canceled by 5 yesterday.  I’d guess we have 4-5 inches.  The girls were up at 7 begging us to get up every 15 minutes.  I think it was 8:30 by the time we actually walked out the door.

Unfortunately we couldn’t make a snowman.  The snow was so fluffy it almost seemed fake.  We did get a few snowballs in.  And one from Emma hit Lexi square in the face and caused a meltdown.

Then Scott was pulling the girls around and he let go of Emma to keep sliding by herself and she went right under a tree. She didn’t like that too much. I actually caught it on camera except right when she goes under the tree, the fence blocks my view. Skip to :55 to get to the good part (may need a few for the video to process).

The girls were over it after that. We came in and made eggs and bacon and made it all better.

Daily Peek

February 26, 2009 by Amy Leave a Comment

  • Yesterday was work, more work, AI then work.  I had a dinner to celebrate the success of that project I’ve been working on.  That one that kept me up until 5am the other week.  I never said, but it WAS very successful and we’ve been getting a lot of pats on the back for that.  After American Idol last night, I stayed up until 1am trying to figure out the root cause of another issue we’ve been having.  I honest to goodness had to pray I figured it out and then had one of these Beautiful Minds moments where I could almost see the calculations running through my head in a fuzzy cloud until I had an a-ha moment.  I felt very smart last night.
  • More movement on my “tree on a hill” opp.  For now, I’ve turned it down but another proposal is coming my way soon.
  • Things around the house are normal…hearing things like “Girls, put your shirts on!”  “Mom, you NEVER let me!” “Girls, put your shoes up!”  Yes, yes, things are normal around here.
  • We’re spending the evening at my mom’s and then another night of TV with AI, Grey’s and The Office!

Daily Peek: Idiots, Bombs, Pancakes and More

February 24, 2009 by Amy 2 Comments

Highlights from today:

  • I fixed a job at work that was running in test for 22 hours beforehand and 24 minutes afterwards.  It was an idiot coding problem that I created to begin with but at least I figured it out and fixed it.
  • My boss told me I was the bomb today in an email (completely unrelated to the idiot programming problem).  Professional?  Probably not but awesome?  Most definitely.
  • We got free pancakes at IHOP tonight.  We had my niece with us too and we gave a huge speech before we went about behaving.  They were little angels that ate the hound out of some pancakes and eggs and we actually had a really nice time out.
  • I don’t want to give too much away here and I hate when people say this on blogs but I have some stuff in the works that is exciting at the most and flattering at the least concerning a certain site I might own having to do with a tree on a hill.  In fact, please say a prayer for me as I have until Thursday night to make a decision about how to move forward.
  • Speaking of that tree on a hill, One Tree Hill got a new season which means good news for my site.
  • Privileged (which I’m still keeping up with my PrivilegedNews.com site) ended tonight.  No news on whether there will be a second season and I’m not sure if I’ll keep the site either way.

Picture from IKEA Finds a Home

February 24, 2009 by Amy 3 Comments

So there it is.  The picture above my bed is one of the many purchases we made on Saturday.  We saw some shades (black) that I want to hang from the ceiling in a set of 3 like they had in a display in the showroom.  That’s the thing with IKEA I figured out…everything is cheap but they group things so you can’t buy just one.  You have to buy two or four or even nine to make it look like they do!  They’re so trickay trickay.

On the hate

February 23, 2009 by Amy 6 Comments

Can I just say there is a lot of hate on the Internet?  Like, a lot.  I realize hate is in the real world too but something about the Internet gives people the permission to hide behind their monitor and be downright nasty about things they don’t even know about.  Running several sites and having to monitor comments, I have to get my “mommy voice” on but I honestly do not try to be ugly to people.  But wow, people know how to nitpick any small thing and blow it up to something huge and then spew it all over the Internet.  It’s a shame really.

Weekend Recap

February 22, 2009 by Amy Leave a Comment

This weekend has whizzed by.  Friday Scott wasn’t feeling well and we stayed in for the evening after eating at Mom’s.

Saturday I got up just in time to get everyone ready and off to an extra choir practice/lunch at church.  That afternoon Scott got off a bit early and Mom, Dad, Heather and us all headed back up to IKEA.  I’ll spare you all the details except to say the traffic was 100x worse and the meatballs were 100x better with the gravy.

Today was a struggle to get up for the day.  This sinus thing I got on Tuesday morning is hanging on and is really bad at night and in the morning.  I actually couldn’t sing yesterday morning for practice.

This afternoon after church and lunch at IL’s, I brought my niece home to play with their girls.  They’ve been happily playing all afternoon while I catch up on laundry, dishes and of course, IHeartDannyGokey.com and OneTreeHillBlog.com stuff.  And just for the record, my non-novel has taken a back burner with this new site.  I miss it though and maybe with Danny not singing for the next two weeks I’ll get to work on it some more.

Tonight Scott will be off for the weekend and I’m hoping to do nothing but catch some of the Oscars and maybe finally catch up on Lie To Me.

My IKEA Experience

February 19, 2009 by Amy 15 Comments

I’ve been wanting to go to an IKEA store for years.  Years.  Dani and I have talked for YEARS about making a trip to Atlanta but just never have gotten it together.  Finally yesterday the Charlotte store opened and I got a chance to go today after work.  I was on pins and needles all day.  I could finally see the pretty, pretty catalog in real life.

I tried to twitter the whole thing but twitpic started posting pics from my trash can and wow, that could be scary.

I’m not sure how all IKEA’s are set up but ours (and I do consider it ours) has two levels.  When you walk in the front door, you are led up an escalator to the showroom.  It is literally room after room set up with all IKEA stuff.  Living rooms, kitchens, offices, bedrooms.  I was a little confused on how to actually buy anything and had to ask, feeling pretty dumb.  Each item is tagged with a price and a location.  The actual store is located on the first floor, divided by department where everything is packaged nicely for you to buy.

I loved every room thinking I could probably live in each one.

Let me share what pictures I did get.  This is going up the escalator that greets you.  That’s a picture of the kids’ playroom.  You can drop them off there while you shop!  You can see there was a line.

Across the way there is the restaurant.

photo5

More of the restaurant…

photo6

I loved this set of toy boxes. We use a lot of these plastic bins in the room but I love how they’re organized here.

photo7

I love this bookcase.  I would love to put 3 of them in a row in my bedroom.

photo8

I couldn’t get all of this but this was a cute over-the-toilet cabinet.

photo9

I wish the lighting was better.  This was a much brighter green and I LOVED it.

photo10

I love, love, love this kitchen.  The wood, the island, the cabinets, the stuff hanging below the cabinets, the sink.

photo11

I know these leaves have been around for a while but they are just too cute.

photo12

OK that was all the pictures I took of products but I need to talk about the meatballs next.

Heather and Mom went to the IKEA in Canada.  And out of all that, Heather says today “Make sure you get the meatballs.”  I was all what???  All the cool stuff there and she wants me to get meatballs?  But Heather’s food opinion is trustworthy so I thought I might get some and THEN I get an email from Carolyn that says “order the meatballs (they are really good)”.  OK, ok, people.  I’ve never heard of these infamous meatballs and I’m not a huge meatball fan, but I’ll try them!

So I tried to order a kid size bowl but they said it’s just as cheap to order the kids meal.  So I got the mashed potatoes and a drink.  All in a colorful array of dishes :).

photo15

And while I wasn’t clapping and asking for more, they were good meatballs.  The mashed potatoes were REALLY good though.  Just as good as any high-end restaurant we’ve been to.  And there was some raspberry something or other Swedish juice that they supposedly sold there that was REALLY good and I’m not much of a juice fan.  But it looked like the IKEA-type thing to do so I got it.

So.  After all that shopping, there was a TON of stuff I wanted to get…cabinets, lamps, dishes, pictures, desks, chairs, etc but this is what I brought home

photo16

That would be 3 bamboo-type fabric organization boxes, a desk pad, vase and flowers for the girls’ room, two dimmer switches, a set of 6 shot glasses (not sure if they’re actually called that but they are to take my Isagenix in the morning) and a set of 6 short glasses that I think will be great for the girls and a set of really cute napkins.

OK, so I get home two hours past normal time go to get my stuff out of the car and I have no purse.  And I realize I had left it in the buggy.  In the parking lot.

All I can say is thank goodness I had my phone in my coat pocket.  Otherwise I’d have been hysterical.  Who cares if someone steals the debit card, just don’t touch the iPhone.

I call IKEA as soon as I walk in the door.  Their phone system is a NIGHTMARE.  I finally talk to a customer service rep who has to call the Charlotte location for me and they say no one has turned it in and they won’t go look for it.  I leave the description of the purse and Scott’s cell number (since my phone is dead at this point).  We pack up everyone and head back up to Charlotte to make the 30 mile trip.  IKEA calls on the way and says it was turned in.

The kids are crying they are hungry.  Scott is sleepy.  But I really want Scott to go see a few things I really want so I suggest we run through the showroom for him to see it and eat some meatballs at the restaurant.  Well, you apparently don’t really run through the showroom.  It’s sort of on a one-way track you follow and we ended up going through the entire showroom. But as I thought, Scott loved the stuff there and didn’t seem too upset.  The girls were very well-behaved and were enjoying following the signs to the Restaurant and the arrows on the floor.

The kids vetoed the meatballs and got yogurt instead.  Scott tried the raspberry drink and liked it.

Oh and I got my purse and everything seems to be there.  But.  The strap is broken beyond repair.  And it’s my red Gucci purse from Chinatown.  Maybe that’s what I get for buying a purse behind a fake door.

And all of that gives me new meaning to the phrase “The IKEA Experience”.
