Weekend Recap

January 4, 2009 by Amy Leave a Comment

Friday Heather came over and we worked on our new web site.  Yes, I’m working on another blog.  SHADDUP.  We also watched Step Brothers.  Do not watch that movie ever, no matter what.

Saturday we didn’t get up until 10 and then went shopping.  A diamond fell out of my ring last week and I got that fixed, got it resized and also got another layer of Rhodium put on all three bands.  Apparently if you use a lot of Antibacterial soap it wears it off or sometimes your chemical makeup just does it.  My finger has been breaking out again so I’m hoping getting it done again will help.  I bought the protection program and he recommended that it be done once a year.  Saturday evening we stayed in.  Scott gets a call at 6:50 and its another trooper asking where they’re eating for dinner.  Turns out Scott had a special DUI saturation shift to work 7-3 he didn’t know about.  So he was out the door by 7.  I stayed in and watched a bunch of girlie movies…You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle and Bridget Jones Diary.

Today was a typical Sunday…church lunch, CVS, choir, church!  Nothing new there!

No major plans for the week.  Tomorrow I’m going to the office.  A lot of my TV shows start up this week so I’m guessing I’ll be sitting in front of the TV a lot in the evenings.  Besides that, I’m still working on The List.

Twitter vs. Blogging

January 4, 2009 by Amy 13 Comments

I’ve mentioned my love of Twitter several times.  It’s become so much a part of my day that I feel lost when I go hours without twittering.  I now have hundreds of friends on there and honestly try to follow and keep up with all of them.

I’m finding though that the more people twitter, the less I and others are blogging.  My reader used to be filled with unread posts but now, it is my Twitter account that can’t keep up.

For me, I’ve noticed that once I’ve said it on twitter and people respond, I’ve gotten it out of my system and it seems redundant for my twitter/blog readers.  For example, there were at least three topics I twittered about yesterday that I could have extended to make half-decent blog posts..

Movie watching/reviews

  • Blockbuster just sent me Bridget Jones Diary. Worth the time to watch it?
  • watching the end of You’ve Got Mail. i love this movie. in a big way.
  • Sleepless in Seattle is coming on at 8:30. may have to skip it to watch Bridget Jones though.
  • daughter is finally asleep. finishing sleepless in seattle before starting bridget jones. another late night here!
  • A few years late but bridget jones was good. The end made it worth it. And colin firth.

Funny kids story

  • the girls are singing High School Musical karoke in the living room but i’m not allowed out there. i can only listen, not watch them?!

Upcoming shows including The Bachelor

  • DeAnna is coming back to the Bachelor for Jason?? this is going to be so good!

But now that I’ve twittered, it seems that there is no point.  Plus, really, I got the jist of what I was trying to say out in a sentence.  Yes, I could have made it more entertaining and included the full story but really, it’s there.  I have a feeling that many people are in this same boat.  So is this a good thing or bad thing?

The Good

  • I get my thoughts out and don’t need to make a note to write about it later.
  • It doesn’t take as long to write about it since you’re writing it in parts, 140 characters at a time.
  • You get instant feedback.  In the case of Bridget Jones, I had several people say it was worth my time but I could have saved 90 minutes of my time had it been a horrible movie.
  • People get to be involved in my life in more of reality tv vs. documentary sort of way.

The Bad

  • People that don’t twitter miss out on what I don’t blog about
  • The blog itself and hence readership suffers from lack of posting

The Ugly

  • Twitter can be time-intensive on all parts involved.  Now that I have hundreds of followers/following, it takes a good amount of time to keep up with everyone’s tweets.  With blogging, it is easy to write the post and leave it be.  And as for reading others’ posts, it is easy to figure out the topic and skip if necessary.

As I write this, I’m realizing the ironic thing is I’m taking the day off from Twitter because it was getting to be too much and guess what?  The blog got a nice, new shiny post.  Go figure.

So I’m curious, anyone notice the change in blogging to twittering?  Do you think twitter will ever replace blogging?  Which do you prefer if you do both?

I don’t think Twitter can cover the gamet.  140 characters sometimes is just NOT enough.  But I’m not sure blogging covers the gamet either.  I enjoy the immediate reaction and the socialization of Twitter that is different than the blogosphere although they do overlap.  I don’t know, I guess eventually it will all shake out and I believe we’ll all find a balance of both.   Mashable had a pretty good article today about how Twitter will change blogging this year.  I tend to agree something needs to happen to mix the two to make both blog-only readers and twitter friends happy.  For now, I’m going to go Twitter this blog post ;).

iPhone’s have all the answers

January 3, 2009 by Amy 2 Comments

We were in the car today and I told Emma she had been invited to a party for one of her classmates. Lexi wanted to go and I told her she couldn’t since she hadn’t been invited. She said she wanted someone in her class to have a party. Her teachers at preschool usually celebrate each childs birthday so I said I was sure someone in her class was having a birthday this month. And she says:

Mommy, can you check your iPhone?

New Headboard

January 3, 2009 by Amy 3 Comments

One Christmas present I don’t think I’ve mentioned is a new black leather headboard Mom and Dad got us. We’ve never bought one since we upgraded to a King size bed a few months back It feels very hotel-ish/ Elvis-ish. I really like it. Now I just need a picture over it.

If today is any indication, 2009 is going to be a great year

January 1, 2009 by Amy 3 Comments

Last night and today have been good.  Scott worked and the girls were in bed by 9.  I had the entire evening to myself.  At first it felt lame but I think it’s just what the doctor ordered.  I got a lot of work done on the youth web site and watched The Dark Knight. I couldn’t get into the movie but I felt it was a must-see on account of Heath and all.

This morning we were up and at ’em.  I made breakfast and straightened up the house.  Scott woke up when we woke up even though he worked last night.  He got up and we both got straight to putting up the Christmas decorations.  We were completely done by lunch.  We ate in and I continued to do laundry and clean.

This afternoon I went to Starbucks to visit with Melissa and her friend Chris.  It was a pleasure meeting him and I can see why they’re such good friends.  Maybe they’ll let me sit at their lunch table tomorrow ;).

This evening we ate in again (a “goal” for 2009 is to quit eating out so much!) and have been having some good family time in between (still) doing laundry and such.

Most of that sounds kinda boring but being productive at home sounds just right to me.

A list

December 31, 2008 by Amy 5 Comments

I have a list.  No, it’s not related to the end of the year or New Years’ resolutions.  These are things I need and want to do right now beyond the normal work, cook, clean, laundry.  Some I hope to finish this weekend, some may be months down the road. It is as follows:

  • Finish Youth Group web site
  • Finish Church web site
  • Finish my non-novel
  • Get iTunes set up on Mac
  • Finish reading The Host
  • Re-read Twilight series
  • Go couponing at CVS/Harris Teeter
  • Organize paperwork

Just called my work day over so here I go…

We’re Home!

December 30, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

I am SO happy to be home.  Our last day in Maryland yesterday still was somehow busy even though it was our day off from Family Gatherings.  We ate, shopped, ate some more and shopped some more.  Just how we like it.  Somewhere along the day though I had officially had enough family time.  I was ready to get home!  Not to mention the fact the house somehow was freezing at night and between my head feeling like a block of ice during the night and the howling wind literally waking me up, I didn’t sleep well.  I’m currently huddled under all my blankets in my bed and happily hot.

The ride home today was uneventful.  The girls were excellent on both road trips.  I think Lexi only cried one time and it was very short lived. They were content to play with toys and I think they may have watched Peter Pan a few times.  Either way it was NICE.

Mom took the kids for the night so I’m hoping to get some good rest tonight. I have to work tomorrow.  Scott has to work tomorrow night so no big plans for NYE.

All in all, did I mention I’m just happy to be home!?

Four Meme

December 30, 2008 by Amy 7 Comments

EDW tagged me for a meme and since she is being really nice and helping me with my non-novel, I will do whatever Ms. EDW asks me to…so here ya go.

Four places I go over and over again:

  1. Starbucks
  2. Emma/Lexi’s Schools
  3. Chick fil a/McDonald’s/Taco Bell
  4. Wal-Mart

Four people who mail me regularly:

  1. Dwight
  2. Carolyn
  3. Victoria’s Secret
  4. MyPoints BonusMail

People, please email me!

Four of my favorite places to eat, (apart from home)

  1. Longhorn’s
  2. Moe’s
  3. The Melting Pot
  4. Starbucks (that counts right?)

Four places I’d rather be now:

  1. Somewhere getting a massage
  2. Isle Esme with Edward Cullen and/or Rob Pattinson (that’s for my Twilight readers)
  3. On a beach somewhere.  Warm but not hot.  Somehow able to keep the sand off.  And the dangerous animals out of the water.
  4. Sitting by a fire in a big house in the mountains with snow outside.  With Starbucks.  And maybe Flo’s Filet from Longhorn’s.  Yeah, that’d be good.

Four favorite TV shows:

  1. One Tree Hill
  2. Grey’s Anatomy
  3. Gossip Girl
  4. The Office

Four movies I could watch over and over again:

  1. Pride and Prejudice
  2. You’ve Got Mail
  3. Grease
  4. Twilight

Seems only right to tag four people

  1. Melissa
  2. Heather
  3. Julie
  4. Mama Belle
