Bartholin’s Gland Cyst

May 20, 2008 by Amy 5 Comments

Boys, go away, you don’t care about this.  And for that matter, if you don’t like graphic medical talk, you go away too.

But I have to say, reading about someone’s medical journey can be interesting too.

Plus, I wholeheartedly believe knowledge is power and so many people are searching the Internet these days for medical info so I’m going to add this on here for Google’s sake. (Do I get extra points in my Google rank if I actually use Google’s name several times??)  Furthermore, you wouldn’t believe the amount of 13 year olds searching on forums about lumps in their vaginas which really turn out to be their cervix.  Not helpful.

Anyway.

Saturday I started feeling sore “down there”.  Sort of felt like I had been cycling for too long.  Except I haven’t done anything even close to exercise for months now.  I brushed it off seeing how clumsy I am and thought maybe I had bruised myself somehow.  And no, there’s no way it was some freak sexual maneuver…Scott’s been gone for 7 days now.

By Sunday, it was hurting bad enough I got curious enough and found a gumball size lump to the right of outer labia.  It was sore to the touch and hurt when I sat down, bent down or when I wiped.  Otherwise it didn’t hurt.

Well, by Monday it had grown to about the size of a cherry tomato and it was hurting all the time.  Not so much that I was taking any pain pills but I knew it wasn’t right and I had never had anything like that.  And well, when you go searching on the Internet about lumps, the Cancer word tends to come up and freak you out.  I made an appointment to see my GYN for this afternoon.

It didn’t take him long to determine I had one of my search results…a Bartholin’s Gland Cyst.  Basically you have a duct that produces lubrication and it can get clogged up.  And when it does that, it may or may not get infected.  My doctor told me there was no good way to tell if it was infected or not so they like to go ahead and drain it but they’d go ahead and put me on antibiotics to see if that helped.  If it hadn’t helped in 2-3 days, they’d put gel on it to numb it, give me a shot of Novocaine, cut the cyst open, drain it then stick in a catheter that I had to wear for about a week or until it fell out.

FABULOUS.

And guess when my appointment is?  Roughly 7 hours before Scott returns from his 10 trip out of the country.  And I’m going to have a catheter for 7 days.  He’s going to love this one.

Lexi: Why is it Walgreens?

Me: Uh….that’s just what they named it.

Lexi: How is Walgreens on this road?

Me: Uh…someone built it here.

Lexi: What road are we on?

Me: Sutton Road

Lexi: I like Watermelons.

Me: Really?

Day 6

May 19, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Today was a pretty laid-back day.

The only thing out of the ordinary was Lexi’s first filling at the dentist.  She didn’t like the laughing gas after a few seconds and kept saying “I’m done” but she was talked pretty easily into letting it sit there.  We waited FOREVER for the dentist but she laid there while watching Diego.  She did really good and never cried until the very end when they put the blue light on the tooth and for some reason THAT made her cry.  It wasn’t hysterical..just sort of squirmy and scared.  But that was the last step so it was all done really fast.  She went hopping out to the waiting room telling S and Emma (did I mention SIL and S happen to have an appointment at the same time?  I really felt like that was an answer to prayer…I was concerned yesterday about Emma seeing Lexi get hers done since Emma has to go Wednesday and in general what to do with Emma if Lexi freaked out.  Emma tends to get upset if Lexi does) she had eaten Cotton Candy (the scent of her laughing gas).  So I guess all is well.  She got to eat right away so all was back to normal this afternoon.  Just a trip to the grocery store, lots of watermelon and cooked cupcakes and then it was bedtime.

I’m smack-down in the middle of a bunch of season finales at the moment.   Back to it…

Day 5

May 19, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Yesterday my family and I spent an inordinate and wasteful amount of time watching Season 1 of One Tree Hill.  After church and lunch, the girls went home with Scott’s sister so I headed to Mom’s after a CVS trip and we watched a few episodes.  I headed out for church and came back for more episodes.  One Tree Hill is like that though…it’s like one long running drama with no good episode to end on.

The kids fell asleep around 9:30 and we all just kept watching…almost until midnight!!  The girls and I did something very unlike us and stayed the night.  They were really knocked out by 10 so there was no real point in trying to get them strapped into car seats at that point.

But man, was it a tough night.  I didn’t sleep well at all thanks to some caffeine and different surroundings as well as crying children.  I might be working on five hours of sleep right now.  We were up by 8 and out the door so I could get them home to get ready for school.  That part actually worked out very nicely as the kids were wide awake and happy to get ready for school.  We were early to school and I got a nice start on the day.  But I’m going to be hating it by this afternoon.

By the way, we’ve heard from Scott in Turkey every day and he doesn’t give many details but he always says they’re doing well and he sounds good.  Only four more days left!

Day 4

May 17, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

I had a really hard time waking up this morning but wake up I did since I knew my aunt and her family were wanting to leave by lunchtime.  We got up and I’m glad b/c we spent time going to pick strawberries at a farm in town.  It was a lovely day for it and I’ve been wanting to do it since it opened.  I missed the girls not being there since they were at MIL’s house from their overnight stay but it was still nice.

After that, you won’t believe what Mom, Dad, Heather and I spent time doing until the girls got home??  Watching Season 1 of One Tree Hill!!  I guess they finally wanted to figure out what all the hoopla was about.  I had to leave to get the girls but they ended up watching 2 more episodes.  I guess they like it though!  All Mom will say is it’s DRAMA!

The kids and I went to a birthday party this afternoon.  I totally forgot about it until an hour before so we stopped at Wal-Mart and headed over there.  I really didn’t want to go much but I was pleasantly surprised at the party.  They have a huge backyard and it was filled with all kind of little stations of things for the kids to do and of course their playground set.  The girls stayed busy for 3 hours!

Most of the kids were from church so it was nice to visit with their parents and be outside on such a nice day.

This evening we ended up going BACK to Mom’s after I got the girls baths and put them in pj’s.  We headed out for ice cream and then watched two more episodes of One Tree Hill.  I guess Mom was getting pretty into it because she kicked me and the girls out so she could concentrate without their late-night craziness. LOL.

The kids were wiped out when we got home and went straight to bed.  I’ve been trying to study for Sunday School but keep getting distracted.  I’m really tired at this point and wish I would have prepared a little before this.  It’s my procrastination kicking in.  I guess I better hop off and get to it!

OTH News

May 16, 2008 by Amy 4 Comments

I know I said I had to go to bed BUT I totally forgot my very exciting news.  Somehow word must have got out this week that my OTH site is half-decent because I’ve had several very cool things come from different PR people just today.

  • Rep for Gabe Dixon sent me links to audio of a song that’s going to be featured this week on the finale.
  • Rep for Amy Kuney sent me video and info about one of her songs that’s going to be featured this week on the finale.
  • Rep for tvguide.com sent me links to OTH videos and asked to do a link exchange…our link is now going to be on the landing page for OTH!
  • Rep for Hilarie Burton’s new DVD The List is sending me FIVE copies of the movie to giveaway at the blog.

This has literally all happened today.  I literally was smiling so much trying to tell Heather about the DVDs that I couldn’t form the words correctly with my lips.  And I’m not joking in the least.  How awesome is all that??? No longer am I just copying and pasting info from other sites but now am the SOURCE for a few things!  Awesome!!

Day 3

May 16, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Day 3 pretty much rocked.  I woke up to a clean house this morning.  The kids were taken by Mom for the day by 10.  I took the time to clean the Land Rover at lunch and worked up until 4 when I headed over to my Mom’s to see my aunt and family.  We went to a local Italian festival to eat some yummy yummy lasagna.  We swung by my house for them to see it since they have never been down here.  At that point, I packed up the kids clothes and they went to spend the night with Scott’s parents.  I met back up with all the girls at Ross’s and got some very fun coffee cups and a cake plate.  We headed to Dad’s and watched Mad Money in their theater.  It was a very, very nice relaxing day today.

I’ll head back to Mom’s in the morning to see them off by lunch and I’m not sure what time the kids will come home.  I do need to do a bit of dusting tomorrow and bathtub cleaning but otherwise plan to take it easy tomorrow as well.  However, if I don’t get to sleep very, very soon, I’m going to miss the whole morning, so I guess this is a quick post to say goodnight!

American Idol Tour Tickets

May 16, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

So Heather and I are officially going to the concert!  I just got an email for Pre-Sale tickets and I jumped on it.  Apparently they were on sale since 10am this morning so I didn’t get the best seats, but here is where we are sitting in the Bobcats Arena…

We went two years ago when Chris was there but skipped last year.  I’m no huge fan of anyone this year but Heather is pretty into David Cook and I wouldn’t mind seeing it either so we’re set!
