Pageant is a no-go

February 27, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

So Lexi was supposed to be in the state pageant in June.  A few deadlines are quickly approaching and I really started reading what was required.  First, we’ve already given $100 deposit.  Now, the rest of the $300 entry fee is due.  THEN, there’s a required ad page that is $250.  You’re really supposed to sell the ad to individuals and businesses but I feel bad asking for people for money for a pageant and really, they want the money in THREE days.  Then, there’s t-shirts and optional contests you can enter.  Then, you have to have a professional headshot. I  haven’t had one so I was going to have to get her portrait done TOMORROW to send it off on Friday.  Then there’s the whole thing about the dress which is at least $100.  Then the pageant is actually held somewhere where we’d need a hotel room so that’s probably another $50-100.  And this is all for a THREE year old who may or may not be into getting on stage and waving for about 30 seconds.

With my recent debate of even buying things for the house we want, I REALLY can’t justify spending $6-700 on a pageant that Lexi won’t even remember.  If she was a little older and really insistent on doing this and it was going to be the beginning of a career type thing, I may invest in it for the experience, but for now, I think we’re going to have to give this a big no.

Making Plans

February 27, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

Since receiving word on an estimate of Scott’s shoulder compensation, receiving all of our tax returns and ALSO finding out we’ll be getting money in June, we’ve had lots of decisions to make on what we’re going to do with all the cash.  Big problem to have, I know.  We’ve already paid off our credit card and the refrigerator.  That was done within about 2 minutes of having the tax return money in our account.  But now we have lots of things we could do.

I think what we’ve decided on for now is to put hardwoods down everywhere but the bedrooms, update the kitchen countertop, get a water softener installed, pay for our anniversary weekend in August and then Scott will use the bulk of the money from the settlement on a truck and a TV.

I’m ecstatic that we can do all these things that have been on “the list” for so long but honestly it’s kind of hard spending that much money knowing all the people that are struggling financially and reading about Compassion for several weeks now.  I realize I can’t save everybody with what we have but I also don’t know how to strike a balance, if there is such a thing.

American Idol Top 10 Guys

February 26, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

By far, David A was my favorite.  It’s just so easy when he sings.  And beautiful.  Definitely could see him winning this whole thing after that.

I also voted for Jason Castro because he’s just so funny.  I really fell in love with his personality tonight…oh no, don’t make me talk!

Who else…David Cook.  I like him but I have a hard time because I keep trying to compare him to Daughtry and it is just disastrous for me every time.  And the hair!  Cut the hair!

Oh!  David Hernandez.  He was awesome tonight.  Best we’ve seen from him yet and if he continues like that he’ll do well.

Back to normal

February 25, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Well, things feel back to normal around here.  I was able to finish up working today and then Scott was nice enough to make dinner while I rested for a bit.  After that, Scott was determined to buy a DVD recorder/VHS player combo so he can record his tapes here for work.  So we went out to Best Buy, Target and HHGregg.  I was pretty tired by the time we got back.  Lexi had already fallen asleep for the night and Emma didn’t last too long either.  Scott is busy rearranging all the electronics in the living room and I’ve been trying to catch up with my Bible reading since I got a little bit behind this past week.

I think I’m gonna make it

February 25, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

Saturday started out well but ended really badly when my antibiotic made my extremly nauseous.  I had to get MIL to take the girls for the night and take them to church yesterday.  No more Biaxin for me!

Yesterday was sort of an iffy day.  I was able to get up, get ready and have lunch over at IL’s but I was quickly tired and had to go home and nap.  When I got up, I took the kids to choir at church and then we hunkered down at home.  I did fine with the girls by myself last night and was even feeling pretty good watching the Oscars.

This morning I feel almost completely normal.  I woke up and just about jumped out of bed just because I could.  Lexi even got a bow in her hair for school!  That’s progress, people.  I may tire out quickly today but for now I feel like I’m back in the land of the living!

Sunday Scripture – Psalm 121

February 24, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

1 I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;  From where shall my help come?
2 My help comes from the LORD,  Who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not allow your foot to slip;  He who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, He who keeps Israel  Will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is your keeper;  The LORD is your shade on your right hand.
6 The sun will not smite you by day,  Nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will protect you from all evil;  He will keep your soul.
8 The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in  From this time forth and forever.

It was positive

February 23, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

I had a little breakdown last night.  I was so tired of being sick.  My legs hurt, my stomach hurt, I was hungry but absolutely nothing sounded good, my nose wouldn’t quit, my chest hurt, blah, blah, blah.  This morning I’m happy to report I’m feeling so much better.  That’s the good news.  The bad news is I think the flu has now caused some bronchitis.  So I finally broke down and went to the dr today.  She first tested me for the flu which came back positive.  She also figures I have bronchitis since a secondary infection is common with the flu.  So I walked away with antibiotics and she also told me to take Mucinex DM.  She was going to put me on Tamiflu but since I’m already 5 days in, there’s really no point.  I was surprised she even suggested me taking Monday and Tuesday off from work.  If I had to work today though, I could.  But since I don’t, I’m off to take a nap!  I’ve been up and about all day and I think I’ve about had enough.

I’m still here

February 22, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

but still really sick.  Today has shown some improvement.  I have a little more energy today and more of an appetite but I still spent the day in bed.  I honestly don’t think I’ve ever felt this bad for so long.  Everyone keeps telling me it lasts four days and then it’s done so here’s hoping for a great day tomorrow.
