Seven Things About Me

December 7, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Amy tagged me for a meme to share seven things about me you might not know.  Which now that I actually need to type something in I’m realizing I totally overshare on this blog and I can’t imagine what you might not know about me.

  1. I used to be deaf in one ear.  God healed me at a healing service when I was very young.
  2. I have never drank, smoked or done drugs.  And I don’t ever swear.   It’s just that Type A, first child, be a good Christian girl in me.
  3. I usually don’t get ready for the day until lunchtime.  Unless I get a shower the night before and can wash my hair before I get the kids to school.  Or like today when the DirectTV guy shows up way early and I have to hop in the shower so I’m not walking around in my bath robe.
  4. I don’t like wearing shoes around the house.
  5. I do not like vegetables raw except for carrots.  And then they have to be dipped in ranch.
  6. I think men with tattoos on their neck are hot.
  7. I have a bad habit of slouching.

Grey’s Anatomy Crash Into Me Part 2 December 6, 2007

December 7, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Generally, tonight was an ok episode. No major storyline moving ahead.

My favorite lines:

Meredith to Hahn when they’re working on Ray, “Shut. up!”

Lexie asks how Seth Green’s character is and he says something like, “Well, not great if I’m being honest.”

Bailey goes on her vows rant to tell Tucker and George says, “Can I just do some charts?”

George and Bailey deciding on the incision:
Bailey: Do you think it’s jagged.
George: Yeah, it’s jagged.
Bailey: I thought so too.

George saying to the white supremacist, “I believe if you were dead the world would be a better place.”

Callie after Hahn asks Sloan not to hit on her at the bar, “He still can’t promise that.”

Scenes I liked:

Hahn yelling at herself after she made a mistake.

Izzie and George at the end deciding they aren’t going to be together but decide on “maybe someday”.

The kiss! McDreamy and the nurse. Woah. I watched that through my fingers covering my eyes.

Yang telling Bailey how she took offense to Bailey taking her off of Hahn’s watch because of her skin color.

Overwhelmed

December 6, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I’m a little overwhelmed right now.  I came to the realization today that I have less than 2 weeks to finish my Christmas shopping since we’re going to Maryland the 19th and I had a total of 3 people marked off my list.  The girls and I ended up making a trip to the mall and Wally World (ugh, but I had gift cards to use) and were able to knock five more people off my list.  And may I say how good my girls are shopping these days.  Emma walked beside the cart and Lexi rode in the cart and didn’t even ask to get out in the toy department.  She just kept telling me to scoot the cart one way or the other.  Fine with me!  And I didn’t even buy them anything even though we bought for four other children.  Very proud of them tonight.

Beyond Christmas, tonight I was feeling a little overwhelmed because I had two implementation for work and then two production jobs failed.  Also tomorrow is my last day with my consulting company so I’ve been trying to finish up all the paperwork and number crunching to make sure I’m paid correctly.

Beyond Christmas and work, I have stuff on the side to do. The pastor asked me to get some clips from some DVDs together for the Christmas cantata.  I have two people interested in me doing web sites.  I need to get Flash installed (and learned) pronto.

Beyond Christmas and work and side jobs, I have miscellaneous stuff like getting my elliptical fixed.  It’s squeaking really badly bad a lot and I had to call the manufacturer today.  They’re supposed to be sending us parts and a technician within a few days.  Also Scott ordered us DirectTV last week and the guy is coming tomorrow to install it.  My only instructions from Scott were to "make sure the house is cleaned up so he’s not tripping over stuff."  Nice.

Beyond Christmas and work and side jobs and miscellaneous house stuff, I have Christmas parties to prepare for.  Food to prepare and gifts to buy/find and wrap.

And beyond all of that, I have the normal fix food, do laundry, watch tv stuff I need/want to do.

Yes, I’m overwhelmed right now.

What is wrong with this picture?

Can you see the problem?

Somehow Lexi did this all on her own and took Scott and I both about 5 minutes to figure out how to fix it.

Thankful Thursday

December 6, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I’m not quite sure why I’m having a hard time putting this one together today.  You’d think I’d always be able to find something to be thankful and while there’s always the norm…family, friends, house, etc., I like to be specifically thankful.  So let’s see.

  • I’m thankful I was able to stock our fridge and pantry this week.  It’s been nice eating in once again.
  • I’m thankful for my new elliptical and the chance to work out again.
  • I’m thankful that I get to have lunch with S today and then get to enjoy two Christmas parties this weekend.
  • I’m so thankful our new youth pastor is getting voted in in 3 days.

Compassion makes a difference

December 6, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I just found a video from Tamara’s website that left me in tears.  I highly recommend you getting through the 7 min and 38 seconds.

Scott and I sponsor a child named Alexander for $32 a month.  That’s one nice meal out for our family and it sponsors him for the whole month.  We write letters to him and his family writes for him since he is only 5.  He asks for pictures and wants to know what Emma and Lexi like.  He’s a real little kid in the world and we get to have a direct impact on his life for Christ.

It was amazing to hear this girl’s story of being a Compassion child and the impact that Christ has had on not only her but her family.  I highly, highly encourage you take consider sponsoring a child.  Like Tamara said, we CAN make a difference.

Blake Lewis Audio Day Dream

December 5, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

image OK, here’s a for some reason very detailed yet spastic review of Blake Lewis’s Audio Day Dream.

Break Anotha – I wasn’t overly impressed with Break Anotha when I heard the sneak peek of his album.  I think he picked the wrong first single.
Gots to Get Her – This is taken from the melody of Puttin on the Ritz.  Very, very catchy.  Totally see it on the radio.  Would be awesome live.  Perfect for working out.  Makes you want to dance.  Might be one of my favorites on the CD.
Know my Name – great beat, sounds like he stole some Justin Timberlake moves in this song.  it’s decent but i don’t see any big  hits out of this one.
How many words – don’t like so much beatboxing in the beginning but i like the rest of the song
Surrender – Pretty piano in here.  OK, not memorable
Hate 2 Love Her -  could see Maroon 5 or even maybe JT doing this one.  nice falsetto in the chorus.  i like the lyrics.
Without You – nice love song reminded me of the love songs in the late 80s.  one of the better ones i could hear on radio, maybe even on  adult contemporary stations
Here’s My Hello -  lyrics are weak ( "how can i get you and swallow you whole")  except for the hook line "here’s my hello, don’t say goodbye" and it’s pretty repetitive.  the bridge is the best part of it.  i like that raw, less techno sound of him
What’cha Got 2 Lose – I think this song must have been a song Prince or Michael Jackson turned away.  sounds a lot like them but not overly impressed.  it sounds TOO techno/80ish or something
She’s Makin’ Me Lose It – Again, there’s that Prince sound (WOW, i just read on his site it was inspired by Prince, aren’t I smart?). lots of synthesizer sounds.  too much for me again.
Bshorty Grabs Mic! – could have left this off.  Maybe cool to hear in person but just unimpressive on a track.
End of the World – love this song.  felt like he was actually singing.  good beat.  great lyrics.  good backup vocals.  one of my favorites.
1000 miles – another Maroon 5 type sound i think.  the vocals are good and the lyrics are sweet but there’s something missing from this one.  the hook isn’t strong enough or something.  i’m afraid this one is not memorable enough.
I Got U – pretty good, very melodic.  not enough excitement i guess.
I Choose Noise (Outro) – cool i guess but he could have left that off, usually skip it
Human – sounds like a boy band song, didn’t really like it.  i keep expecting 5 boys dressed in white suits to come out and do a dance.  surely not what blake intended for his album.

Complaints

  1. Vocals were a little choppy in some parts.
  2. Felt like some parts were overly done as far as synthesized/beatboxing
  3. Repetitive, especially at the end of songs.
  4. The beatboxing transitions between songs are kind of cool in between songs the first time through then it’s just a little annoying and I skip them.
  5. I really wish he would have channeled more rock music.  "You give love a bad name" was such a hit I thought it would lean towards that a little more.

General Comments

  1. Very 80-ish, techno inspired.  I think of George Michael, Prince, Michael Jackson, Maroon 5 and Justin Timberlake
  2. I’m surprised I liked his ballads so much but they were some of my favorites.
  3. Blake is definitely unique.  You can tell he knows what he wants and went for it.  I’m not sure how much it will stick with a general pop radio audience.
  4. For American Idol fans, it’s going to be worth your time to listen to it all the way through to see what the real Blake sound is like but I doubt the general population will want to buy the entire album.  I expect some singles to do well though.

My favorites:

Gots to Get Her
End of the World
Without You

Works for me Wednesday

December 5, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

The theme for this week’s Works for me Wednesday is what you make for dinner last minute and with limited ingredients.  I’m not one of those really creative chefs so nothing earth shattering or extremely healthy but here are my last minute meals:

  1. Pancakes and eggs.  This is always my go-to that the kids love and eat well.  I just follow the recipe on the Bisquick box and do sunny side up fried eggs.
  2. Either spaghetti or fettuccini alfredo.  Just the noodles, meat and some bottled Prego or Alfredo sauce.
  3. Tuna patties (like salmon patties but with tuna), mac & cheese and beans.  Just mix 2 cans of tuna, 1 egg and half a sleeve of crushed saltine crackers together.  Make patties out of them and then fry them in one stick of butter on the stove.  Serve with boxed mac and cheese and bake beans.
  4. Tomato soup and grilled cheese.

I guess that’s the basics of my quick and easy meals…it works for me!
