I mentioned my mom’s hometown in my last post. I’m not sure I mentioned how small it is. She graduated wtih 55 people in her class. The town has one caution light. You know a town is small when there is a “the” in front of everything. As in, when we stopped to visit Pap today and he wasn’t there, Mom says, “Let’s go to the restaurant and see if he’s in there.” There are a lot of “thes”. The bank. The post office. The dollar store. The school. The light. The train tracks. And my personal favorite from today…my mom asks my grandfather where someone lived and he says, “Down the road.”

The way, the truth and the life
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
For some reason, I can’t get this verse out of my head. I’ve been thinking of illustrations I could use to explain it, Powerpoints to use, drawings to draw, clipart to use but nothing yet has settled in my mind.
But the thing I keep thinking about is the “the” part of that verse. In English the word “the” means one. Yes, pretty basic English there I’m sharing. But Christ is reiterating the fact that He is THE way. THE truth. THE life. He’s not a way to get to God. He’s not a truth of the universe. He’s not a little bit of life. He’s it. He’s the I AM.
When someone starts talking about their religious beliefs or their inner strength, all I can think of is this verse. His words echo in my head, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” He’s not just what I’ve chosen. His words are not arbitrary ones that I’ve picked to believe. He’s not one of the ways I find life. He’s not just mine. He is THE way. THE truth. THE life.
Survivor October 5, 2007
We totally missed Survivor last night except just in time to see that our local girl Leslie Nease voted out. I had heard she didn’t last too long so I guess the rumors are true. I didn’t record it so I’m not sure what happened. Especially since everyone seemed very sad she was leaving right after her name was announced. Anybody?

Quite relaxing
The first day of vacation up here has been pretty relaxing. We hung out at the house this morning with my hardest task being logging into work and entering my timesheets. We went out and got our favorite steak subs for lunch and ate them here.
Then we headed out for shopping. Nothing extravagant. Although I did find Coupon Mom’s book at a discount store for $1.99. I plan to read some of that this evening. Since we’ve been back from shopping, the girls are playing, I’ve been on the computer…you know, the normal Bennett household. But it’s all fun computer stuff and not work computer stuff.
I think we might go out and grab some take-out and finish the first day out at home. Very, very relaxing so far.
Thankful Thursday
I just realized it’s Thursday and I’m supposed to do Thankful Thursday and Thursday is almost over, so I better go ahead and do this or it won’t be Thursday anymore. And although you can give thanks on Friday, Thankful Friday just doesn’t sound as good.

I have nothing interesting to report for today except I sat in a car all day long and drove. But the good, yet uninteresting, news is we made it without incident.
Tired but done
11:42 PM and I’m just now leaving work. Lots of little issues that are now all fixed and everything seems to be working.
Headed home. Still need to do that packing.
