So frustrated

September 24, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So ‘member that huge raise from my client manager I thought I was going to get?  You know, just for being a great employee (well, contractor technically)?  Yeah, well, not happening.  And oh yeah, today I got a call from my contracting company and I’m not getting anything for my annual raise either.

I’m so bummed and mad and frustrated.  I want out of that contracting company pronto.  But you know, non-compete clauses and political stuff like that keep me from making the jump in a skinny minute.

My client manager and contracting manager are all supposed to have a conversation next week and maybe they can work out something so the contracting company doesn’t eat all of it and I get some pennies as least.

Go!

September 24, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Yesterday we had a guest speaker at church.  He was a director of missions from some county in NC.  He was a fantastic speaker.  He kept your attention, had good stuff to say and was quite entertaining.  I know that probably shouldn’t be on “the list” of what makes a good pastor, but it helped either way.  I wanted to share the four games he said people play in church and then the four things that people can do after they quit playing games that will make a great church.

Game #1 – Blame game.  It’s always someone else’s fault when something doesn’t go right.

Game #2 – Excuses game.  We always have an excuse.

Game #3 – Power game.  It was almost funny when he said this, you could hear the oh’s coming from people across our congregation.  This one stabbed us in the heart.  That is one of the main problems in our church.  Someone gets put at the head of the committee and they say “It’s mine.  mine. mine. mine!” in a four year old voice.  That was funny when he said it, but honest to God, that’s the way people act.

Game #4 –  Procrastination – I’ll get saved…tomorrow.  I’ll go visit them..tomorrow.  I’ll start reading my Bible…tomorrow.  We all know how that one goes.

And once you give these games up…you should take these steps taken from Matthew 9:35-37:

#1 Go!  – Jesus went and never stopped.  He got out and talked to and touched the people that no one else would.

#2 See! – When you go, you start seeing and you can’t see until you go.  When you start seeing people, you start seeing the needs of people.

#3 Compassion – When you go and see people in need, you automatically develop compassion for them.  Anyone that has been on a missions trip can attest to this.  There’s no way to describe that feeling of what you see when you went.

#4 Pray – When you go and see the needs of people and develop this compassion for them, you will pray.  Pray like you never have before.  And prayer moves mountains.  He fills needs and moves other people to go!

This was a very condensed version of his sermon…unfortunately none of the funny stuff included, but it really touched me yesterday.  I have all these grand plans in my head and yet I procrastinate and never go.

For all the searchers from Google…the finale is Sunday Sept 30. I don’t know who wins but everything I’ve read online this morning has Jess as the winner.

First cold of the season

September 23, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I woke up last night to snot running down my face.  Nice.  I’ve apparently picked up my first cold of the season.  I went to church this morning but didn’t make it this evening.  I slept on and off this afternoon.  Mom and Dad’s air went out so we’ve been over here at their house and Scott has been trying to fix it.  I’ve just been lounging around and the girls are watching Shrek in between playing.  I’m hoping I’ll wake up in the morning and somehow be all better otherwise tomorrow is not going to be fun.

Changes

September 22, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

img_8544-1.JPGWell, the weekend really hasn’t gone much at all like I planned….

Yesterday the big project got postponed so I left work at 4:30.  The four of us went to eat at Longhorn (hmmm..melt in your mouth Flo’s Filet), stopped by my sister’s house and then took the girls to MIL’s.  Lexi did NOT want to stay the night there so she came home with us.  I was SO tired I layed down on our bed and fell asleep.  Scott was nice enough to stay up with Lexi who had napped through Longhorn and wasn’t tired.

This morning I had planned to clean which I started doing but then Heather called me and said that a local furniture shop was having a sale and thought there were a few things that would work in my house.  So I pulled my hair up, put on some decent clothes and headed out for that which led us to the Ottoman Debate until about 2 today.  We ended up going to 3 other furniture stores, eating out with the girls and in-laws and finally deciding to keep the purchased ottoman.

I spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning and finally getting a shower and here I am now.  Emma is still with the in-laws, Heather is over here napping and we need to be headed over to my mom’s to eat dinner before C and I head to the band exhibition this evening.

Guess I better round up the troops…

Weekend postponed for me

September 21, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

This afternoon I have to go up to work for a really, really big implementation of a new system.  Thankfully I only have a small part.  However, everyone is nervous about it as the developer has left the company and I’m just filling in for the deployment.  Hoping and praying everything goes well.  That starts at 5 but I’m leaving early to avoid traffic and could be home as  early as 7, who knows.

The kids will probably be at MIL’s by then to spend the night.  Maybe Scott and I will watch a movie or something.  Tomorrow morning I really need to clean and do laundry.  And it’s time for that deep cleaning again.  Not just a swish and swipe here and there.

Also want to stop by Art on Main tomorrow downtown.  Hopefully see Jaynee there and all those blankets and art she’s been working on.  I’ve never been to the thing.  Not sure if they have even had it before so I’m curious.

Saturday night is the high school’s band exhibition and C and I are going to go check it out.  It’s been a few years since I’ve been out to one and this year I actually know some band members as a couple of the youth group are in it.

Sunday will be the norm–church, relex, choir, church.  They FINALLY have someone who has stepped up to watch the nursery on Sunday nights so yay for that.

This Week’s Season Premieres

September 21, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Just a few thoughts on the premieres this week I watched…

Beauty and the Geek – Wow, those people need some help.  Listing the countries and math problem involving a shoe sale seemed to really break the girls down.  And the boys kissing that mannequin?  O boy.  Not too fond of the male beauty.  He’s way too full of himself and not that attractive if you ask me.  The previews for the season look really good though.  These people seem wide open to accepting changes in their lives and seem really sincere.  So I hope it goes well.

Survivor – China is a tough country.  No sandy beaches there.  I have no desire to be where they are.  Chicken could have been a great player if he would have stepped up.  PG needs to step down.  Poor Leslie already having to stand up for her beliefs and getting eyes rolled at her.

Gossip Girl – The only problem I have with this show is it’s too mature for young teenagers.  Lots of serious issues already in the first episode.  Besides that I think it was really good and really, really like what’s-his-name with the rocker/artist dad.
