Entangled: The Morning After

November 12, 2011 by Amy 8 Comments

EntangledCover200 Well, it’s the morning after launch day.  I didn’t think I would feel different but I do.  Free. Light. Peaceful. Loved. Grateful.  While in many ways, the journey has just begun, I feel like my obedience is complete.  If I were Moses, I think I’m at that part where he raised his staff over the water.  It’s a scary, but simple thing.  But also the difference between death and a miracle.  The rest of this is up to God.  I fully expect to see my own Red Sea part.  There are already hearts being touched.  My greatest hope is that people cling to truth and our darkest places are revealed and replaced by God’s love.

A few people (that aren’t my mom, sister or best friends) took the time to read it yesterday.  Some shared privately how it was affecting them.  Please pray for those ladies.  Many are stuck in that maze.  I thought I could share a few thoughts from others today:

‎"If you want an example of what it is to be ‘Bold for Christ’ read Entangled and let the healing begin."- Katrina Harman Roper CEO Sheriff Snacks LLC A ministry for deputies and those they serve.

“Emotional affairs almost ruined my marriage as they were happening on both sides of the coin. We did make it through them without the book, but it would have been so much easier with the book. A hardcopy of this book would go right next to Fireproof and the Love Dare to remind us of what could be and what we have accomplished together. This book is definitely a lifesaver for us.” – Mandy Reilly

“I spent the afternoon and part of tonight reading (its past midnight here), and … This story is … Moving, inspiring, and touching.” – Claire

“..already thru half the book…she says "women’s guide"…I think not…it is "everyone’s" guide” – Chris

“I have already read most of it – just finishing up and I love it. She is right on target. I’m on the pride and deceit portions of the book – fighting back tears – I’m glad God humbles us, but it is painful. Some of the things I’ve come to realize in myself is ugly to look at, but I know God is cleaning the junk out of me. I’m grateful she wrote this book – I don’t feel quite so alone now.” – Lisa Taylor

“I don’t feel quite so alone now.”  That is powerful.  What more of God could I have asked?

If you haven’t gotten your copy, head over to EntangledBook.com.  Also, be sure to watch Facebook and Twitter for more review posts coming out today.

Entangled: The Site

November 10, 2011 by Amy 2 Comments

Alrighty, folks, we’re getting down to the nitty-gritty.  TOMORROW is launch day.  And today you get to look around the site!

 image

The site so far is going to be pretty much static but do you mind if I give you a tour? I think there will be many questions answered like the formats and news about an affiliate program!

Buy the Book

The buy links are in two places (BUT ARE NOT ACTIVE YET): the Front page and on the Buy page.  There are 4 options:

  • Buy eBook Now: This is for those of you who do not have an eReader or want an immediate PDF download.  Cost is $4.99.
  • Buy on Kindle: This is for those of you with a Kindle reader.  You will be taken to Amazon.com to complete your purchase.Cost is $4.99
  • Buy on Nook: This is for those of you with a Nook reader.  You will be taken to the Barnes and Noble site to complete your purchase. Cost is $4.99
  • Buy Paperback: If you find you prefer reading from a paperback or would like to have the resource at your fingertips or you’re my mom, you can order a paperback version for $10.98.

,

The Playlist

Once you read the book, you’ll see that on many of the chapters, I included a Theme Song.  Originally, I had a few lines of lyrics from the songs that meant a lot to me but it turns out it costs you a lot of money to do that so we went with titles.  Please be sure to know that many of the songs lyrics were very specific to what was happening in the chapter you were reading.  As the site indicates, you can listen to them all for free through Spotify.

Resources

On the site, I have a few things that I hope will help.  Books that I mention in the book, blogs that have been helpful and eBook related items.

Scripture

I have an entire section dedicated to the Scripture I used in the book.  My healing was a very spiritual process for me so those are really important to me.  I list all of them and then provide links to printable versions.  They are also listed in the back of the actual book.

Share

Finally, on the share page I give readers ways to get free sample chapters or free copies of the book and also provide images for people to use.  You’ll notice I have the launch day special listed and one more thing we haven’t talked about: the affiliate program.

If you are planning to share the book on launch day to get your free copy, I highly recommend you sign up as an affiliate first.  It’s super easy and every time someone buys a copy through your link, you get 30%.  This is just my way of getting the message to as many people as possible and thanking you for doing it.

So go look around.  In less than 24 hours, I’ll be updating the site so the buy links work and you’ll finally be reading Entangled!

Entangled: The Video

November 8, 2011 by Amy 7 Comments

Today you get to see the intro video from the site!  Our uber-talented media guy at church was super gracious and filmed and edited the video for a mere pack of Dr. Pepper and chocolate chip cookies.  Not kidding.  I still feel a little guilty about that one.  Sure enough, though, I went over to the church during my lunch hour a few weeks ago and within 15 minutes, we had 3 or 4 takes.

The video plays on the front page of Entangled’s (yet-to-be-released) web site.  I know the video is a little on the serious side. All the experts say your eBook video should be smiley and enthusiastic.  And I AM enthusiastic about the message of the book but talking about it is just heavy for me.  And honestly, things come across with WAY LESS enthusiasm on video than you think it is in your head.  I also debated on the script but God just kept pushing me towards saying what I did.

And lastly, on a superficial note that really has nothing to do with the book, I had some people say the all-black thing going on was bad and others said they like it.  All I can say is I needed a hair cut 🙂

At this point I really wish I still had that journal my mom got me.  I’d be a good blogger and scan and post where I wrote I’d write a book one day.  But honestly this isn’t about me and a book.  It’s about His faithfulness and His grace and His love.  I promise no matter what situation you are in that you can read this book.  Reading this book isn’t an admission on your part to an affair or bad marriage.  There’s a message in it for everyone and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.

Entangled: What They Said

November 8, 2011 by Amy 7 Comments

You might say, “Amy, you’ve never written a book and your blog posts are pretty ho-hum.  Am I really going to enjoy this eBook of yours?  I mean, I’ve never had an emotional affair so I’m not sure this is for me.”  Well, those are some fair questions.  So today, I’m leaving all the talking to my wonderful friends that took the time to read the book and give some feedback.

One of the most honest and courageous books I’ve ever read.  A beautiful picture of God’s faithfulness, truth, and reconciliation with a woman’s heart. — Dani

As a single woman, I needed to read this book.  I will always look to Amy’s story as a safe guard to my relationships. — Becky

I am in awe of the courage and honesty Amy displays in her new book ‘Entangled’. She reaches right into the the heart of this issue and provides a solid, reassuring path out. I am so proud to have been a godmother to this book and I pray it blesses many women and that they know they are not alone. — Liz

Entangled is a refreshingly honest peek into the life of the author.  She has gone through something painful and difficult, but she has emerged on the other side of this heartache as a stronger woman ready to share her story and help others in her situation.  I recommend this book for any wife, either as a warning of a path not to take or as a roadmap for how to get out of the forest.  Once you start reading, you will be unable to put it down. — Melissa

I read it in one sitting.  It’s such a vulnerable open read.  It was such an encouragement.  Just another picture of how God brings beauty from ashes. – Amanda

Some of those ladies are single, some are married, some have experienced an emotional affair but others haven’t.  I believe God has some truth in it for each of us.

And here’s some cool news I want to go ahead and share so you can make special plans on launch day, Friday 11/11/11:

For twelve hours only on Friday – 8am to 8pm EST – if you share the link to the Entangled site (which I’ll be unveiling later this week) on Twitter, Facebook or your blog, email me with the link to your post and I will give you the book for FREE!  Yay!

Three days!

In case you missed it last week, you can read the introduction.

eBook: Plan a Fabulous Party {without losing your mind}

November 7, 2011 by Amy 2 Comments

Update: use code FABPARTY until November 15th for a $3 discount!!

OK, folks, you’re going to get TWO eBook-related posts from me today.  But this one is pretty important and I just couldn’t hold it off until next week.

Party-3D-400px

Mary Carver has launched her first eBook called Plan a Fabulous Party {without losing your mind}.  Considering this is birthday month for us, this book couldn’t have come at a better time of the year.  The only thing I regret is not having it in time for our very first sleepover this past weekend.  But let me tell you, I’ll be referring to this for Emma’s sleepover next week.

What I love about the book first is Mary’s voice.  Just like her blog, her writing is easy to understand and funny, to boot.  And it’s all fantastic content.  I love that sometimes she doesn’t give answers but knows how to ask you the right questions so you can plan your perfect party.  It was a special treat to see ohAmanda pop up in one of the chapters about themed parties.  If you haven’t seen one of Amanda’s parties, go check out her Tangled party for her daughter – so cute!  What Mary does in this book is take all the jumbled things about parties that stress me out and organizes it into smaller chunks that I can think about without losing my mind<—hey, look at that!  She also has a great list resource in the Appendix.

The best thing about this eBook launch and why I’m so insistent on writing about it on her launch day is ALL proceeds are going to benefit Operation Christmas Child today!  Woo Hoo!  Head on over and pick up a copy.  It’s for the kids.  All for the kids!

Disclosure: Mary gave me a copy of the eBook to review in exchange for this post.  And go subscribe to her site because she’ll be posting about my book this Saturday!

Weekend Recap

November 7, 2011 by Amy 2 Comments

e44f610c08d211e1a87612313804ec91_7Entangled on an iPad!

Friday night was Lexi’s big birthday sleepover just in case you missed that post over the weekend.  The rest of Saturday morning was spent around the house cleaning.  We had our first of two home study visits with DSS Saturday afternoon.  It turns out to be a long but painless process.  She just sat down with us with a list of 11 pages of questions.  We turned to page 2 after an hour.  Yeah.  So we ended up getting through 5 pages and have the second visit scheduled in 2 weeks.  By the time she left, we were all starved and went to Moe’s with Scott’s parents.  After that, we had to run over to my parents’ so Scott could move some furniture. We were all WIPED OUT after our late night for the sleepover so we went straight home for bed.

Sunday morning was church.  It’s the normal but I’m super excited as they announced that they’d picked the next pastor.  I’m not sure if I ever mentioned that our pastor stepped down last Spring.  He had some personal issues to attend to and I thought he might go back to pastoring but has chosen not to.  I’m really excited for this new season of our church.

Sunday afternoon Scott went mountain bike riding and Emma stayed with Scott’s parents after lunch.  Lexi and I went to do some shopping!  She has already outgrown jeans I bought her this summer on vacation.  But jeans were just not in the cards.  The 6x in the little girls section were all too small to button and the 7’s in the big girl section were way too big.  We ended up with 3 sweater/legging outfits.  As a jean lover it’s hard to fathom a winter wardrobe without plenty of jeans to choose from but it seems like Lexi is going to be all leggings, all the time.

Sunday evening I ended up making some soup for us and then headed over to Melissa’s house to work on the eBook.  I can’t stress enough just how much work Melissa (and even her husband Jeff) has put into this book. There’s been a lot of formatting and editing and behind the scenes stuff that I think it will be easy to take for granted once everything is set up.  I’ve gotten a lot of good response from other bloggers and I think this weekend is going to be huge.

Actually, this week is going to be huge no matter what.  Two projects I’ve been working on for over 6 months at work are implementing this week.  Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings are all going to be busy.  The eBook launches Friday so the weekend will probably be anything but a respite.  But I had to launch on a day I wasn’t working and that was it before the holiday season.  What I’m trying to say is don’t get worried when you see me checking into Starbucks a few times this week.  And a few prayers would be welcome too.

Tomorrow I’ll be starting to post more about the book and web site until it launches on Friday.  See you back then and hope your week is starting off well!

Lexi’s 7th Birthday Parties

November 5, 2011 by Amy Leave a Comment

The past two days we’ve been in complete birthday mode for Lexi.  Normally we do a family party on their actual birthday and then do a combined party the week between Emma and Lexi’s birthday at a place like Chuck E. Cheese.  This year, both girls wanted separate sleepovers.

Thursday was a complete blur.  Lunch was spent gathering the cake, balloons and a present that I didn’t really need since I forgot I ordered American girl stuff.  I was a little wiped out before the party even started.

2011-11-4

But it turned out to be a great evening.  Lexi was ecstatic when people actually started showing up.  I think she was legitimately worried people wouldn’t come.

By Friday morning I had to take a deep breath and do the whole birthday thing again but this time with 7 girls.  Overnight. I kept it pretty simple as far as decorations go.  Lexi wanted all her friends to watch Soul Surfer together so we made it a surfing theme.  We had a cool cake made and borrowed a real surfboard and let the girls take pictures on it like they were Bethany from Soul Surfer.  Between pizza, cake and presents they danced, played Twister and red rover.  They finished out the night with the movie.  I was feeling pretty good about this whole sleepover thing.  Until the next morning.

2011-11-04

This morning I woke to find that during the night, some of the girls had taken the pretzels, goldfish and other snacks I had out and put them on other girls as they slept and generally made a mess of all the food in the living room floor.  It was so bad Emma had the cheese from the pretzel sandwiches in her ear.  No one would own up to it. I kept my cool (outwardly) but gave them a full-blown “that was rude and disrespectful” speech.  I think they thought I was an evil stepmother about then.  Scott’s only comment to me was well, just think, if they were boys, it would have been shaving cream.  I do know pranks are part of sleepovers but I wasn’t prepared to see that this morning.  All is well though.  We moved on and got some breakfast and they got some good play time before everyone headed out.

I can’t believe my baby girl is 7 and all the work was definitely worth seeing all her smiles.
