Lexi made it through the night (sick) without a paci last night and only asked for it twice today..once when she got up and now when it’s nap time. She’s still whining in her room not wanting to take a nap but knowing she slept the night without paci, I’m not giving in. I really think paci is gone for good. Yipee!!

Chris!
I can not say enough good stuff about Chris Daughtry’s free concert in Greensboro Friday night. C and I ended up going by ourselves. It took an hour longer than the normal 1 hr 45 min. ride which did make for quite a long unplanned road trip but fun nevertheless. I have never been to Greensboro and made it simply by Google maps which I was quite proud of. Even found a parking space on the side of a downtown street where someone was pulling out of even though all of the parking decks had Lot Full signs on them. There were droves of people walking towards their Main Street and there was no doubt we were in the right place.
Once we got down there, we stood in line forever at Papa John’s even after they ran out of pizzas and were waiting for another delivery of personal pizzas. The downtown was obviously not expecting the huge turnout and the vendors were few and far between. I have to say Charlotte does a much better job of feeding the crowds. Anyway, with pizza and drinks in hand, we made our way to the stage to put our stake in the crowd and didn’t plan to leave. We scooted up as we could, but I’m telling you soon enough we were packed like sardines. I couldn’t even move without my camera hitting against someone. People were standing on nearby roofs and hanging out restaurant and business windows. We were pretty far back but I could see the stage and Dad’s super-zoom lens got decent pictures. The sound was great though, no problems hearing.
C got faint though before Chris came on and had to get out of the crowd. The weather was a warm 75 and in a tight crowd, it felt more like 90. I stayed put though and she called to let me know she was ok, she could still hear fine and was just going to watch the big (huge) screen.
I had stood in my spot for about 2 hours by the time Chris came on stage. I was stuck in the middle and couldn’t tell how many but I knew from the traffic trying to go through and the sound, it was a lot. They announced that although they had expected 7-8,000, the estimate was 23,000 people were in attendance. Yikes. (I’m not sure if you can see it but I was standing to the rigth of the light pole that is to the right of the white tent).
Chris sang almost every song on his CD, 2 covers and then sang Home like 3 times. He sang them beautifully and it sounded exactly like the CD, which I love because some people have completely different recording voices. He came back twice to sing more because guess why?? He is using the footage from the concert for his next video for Home. Woot! I am so excited. The crowd was definitely pumped. And I was in heaven! It was so great. He looked great, coming out in a black tank, looking as if he’d been working out quite a bit. He had a beard, shaved from his chin down. And lots of eye makeup, I presume for the video shoot. Maybe he does that for all the concerts, probably but who knows.
C and I met up after he finally stopped after 2 encores (the second time asking our permission to sing again to get more shots for the video) and I bought two concert t-shirts. One short-sleeve and one long-sleeve with a hood. We then tried to get a glimpse of him going to his bus but the event staff shooed away anyone without backstage passes.
I proudly made my way out of downtown and back to 85. It only took us about 1.5 hr to get back home although I didn’t actually get home until about 1:30am. I was so excited I wasn’t tired at all though.
kids sick
Grrr..so Lexi either has really bad allergies or the croup or something. I had to go get her at MILs Saturday morning after waking up at 11 after the concert the night before. She said she barely slept Friday night. So I decided not to take her to church but Emma REALLY wanted to go to church so I decided to drop her off at church and have ILs be responsible while I was not there. Lexi and I ended up going to the youth room and working on the podcast while she watched a movie on the big screen up there. (too bad the sound didn’t come out on it and i have to redo it AGAIN). So I pick up Emma after church and lo and behold it looks like she has pink eye. Yuck. Anyway, we stayed home the rest of the day save a trip to drop an overdue movie off at Blockbuster, a trip to get Emma some eye drops the dr had called in and a trip to Grandma’s to get Lexi’s Arial doll we had left over there. Lexi is coughing a good bit. I just realized I didn’t give her cough medicine, only Benadryl tonight. Maybe I should go give her some. But then there’s the whole paci issue. She may want it if she starts crying again. I’ll give her some time and then see. All this sickness means no school tomorrow even though work tomorrow for me. At least Scott is off the next two days.
Paci gone?
Wow, why didn’t someone tell me to do this before! OK, so apparently Emma took the job into her own hands this afternoon while the 3 of us stand in the kitchen getting ready to go to Grandma’s house…
Emma puts her hands on her hips and takes a teacher-type voice Lexi! You don’t need that paci anymore. You’re a big girl. You need to throw it in the trash. Emma puts her hand out
Lexi leans over and spits her paci out into Emma’s hand. Emma walks to the trash and opens the lid and dangles the paci over it, looks at us and asks me in a much less authoritative voice if she should do it. Lexi shakes her head yes.
Me: Sure! throw it away.
Emma: OK!
Me, with crossed fingers, toes, arms and legs: OK, paci is all gone, let’s go to Grandma’s!
So we all head out the door without a peep from Lexi. We’re walking through the garage and Emma crosses her arms and says No more paci! So of course Copy Cat crosses her arms and says No more paci! We get in the van and Emma says Lexi, you want your paci? Lexi shakes her head yes and Emma says, Well, I threw it away!
She asked a couple more times for it including at bedtime and I told her Emma threw it away and it’s all gone and Lexi says, Ohhh… She seems sad and it seems to register. All I want to do is grab it out of the trash and give it to her but I stay strong and take her to bed without it. She currently is sleeping (well, actually coughing in bed right now) without it, so yay!
Chris!!
Yo, yo, yo! I think I’m going to see Chris Daughtry in Greensboro for his free concert. I’m so psyched! Woot!
AI Top 11
So all the performances were decent. I actually thought Sanjaya had improved. Not as impressed with Lakisha this week. Blake was my favorite.
As for the vote-off, surprised that Stephanie got voted off. But I think Simon has it right that it’s better to be bad than forgettable. Really surprised Chris R was in the bottom 2 though and not Phil, I thought for sure he’d be in the bottom or gone.
Ridin a horsey
My whole life I have hated horses. Well, not horses themselves, but riding horses. It all started when I was about 7 when I road a pony at the old PTL and it pooped while I was riding it. And then when I was in middle school we went to a camp thing with our GT class and this horse bucked up while another student was on it and while they didn’t get hurt, it scared me to death. Then move on to youth camp…they had horses and they made me sit on one but didn’t make me ride it. But just sitting up there I felt so FAR UP THERE and SO out of control. I could not wait to get off. So in high school when my family went on a trip to the mountains, I completely skipped the horse riding trip and stayed at the resort. Nothing really terrible happened to me with a horse, but I had very little contact with them and I guess the unknown was scary. So on to this past Sunday…
The girls were dropped off at Grandma’s, Scott wanted me to go with him to a guy’s house from church who was going to build him a bumper thing for his winch on the Land Rover. I reluctantly gave up my Sunday nap and went. Their house was really cool. They had A LOT of family land that they sold to a developer that built a neighborhood (Jane, you may know Eppington South in FM). Their driveway is in the neighborhood but you can’t see the house from the street and after doing down the driveway, it’s like going into an old country house. Supposedly they are on about 22 acres of land. It’s really nice. So one of the first things I noticed is the little barn with the horse. I thought of it because of Emma and her need to ride a horse. So I’m talking to the guy’s wife about getting Emma over there and I happen to mention how scared I am of them and of course that means she’s going to make me get on the horse. So I did.
I was actually really excited to get on the horse. It is actually their 12 year old daughter’s horse and she assured me the Classy was a very tame horse and not to be scared. So I wasn’t. She led me around their field a couple times and then the Mrs. insisted I be allowed to take the reigns myself. So I did.
I did it all by myself! I actually made him go, made him turn, made him stop and even back up. And I liked it!! I’m so proud of myself.
Of course I told Emma and she is reminding me every. day. now that she wants to go ride a horse. So probably will plan on that soon. I want to go when their daughter is there. Apparently the horse won’t do much without her. And I want to go when Scott is off but he works this weekend so we’ll see.
Racket o’ Brackets
Yes, it’s March Madness in the Carolinas and it’s craziness. No one actually works this week..just stares at brackets all week. So last year I filled out a bracket. As a joke. Because I do not ever and I mean never watch college basketball. I did pretty good on the first round but that’s about it. I filled out another one Monday for this year for the pool at work (although just for fun) and also was invited to Jane’s pool and guess what, ya’ll?? I’m tied for first place after 8 games. I’m 8/8! Woot! I’m sure it will all slide downhill at some point but for now it’s kinda cool!
