My cable modem died this

January 24, 2005 by Amy

My cable modem died this morning so I decided to come into the office. I didn’t really want to but I had planned on coming in some time this week so it might as well be a day I could go in late with a good excuse. Scott is off all week so he has both girls today. He called and said the guy couldn’t get my Internet working. They are trying to blame it on my router. Whatever. It just better be fixed today so I don’t have to go to the office tomorrow. I miss my girls. It is nice to be away but I hate the drive and I know Lexi is probably having a cow because I’m not there. She definitely knows when it’s me that’s holding her vs. someone else.

Lexi has been smiling and trying to talk a lot. She does her best at 5am. She does that wide mouth almost laugh that is SO cute. I simply can not catch it on camera but Mom and Dad saw it yesterday too.

Emma is a hoot! We pull up to a turn to go to our church if you turn left, the road forks. You go on the left fork to go to our church. Emma has been recognizing where we are going for awhile now. When we turn in Mom’s neighborhood, she’ll say Grandma’s house. Anyway, we pull up to the stop sign at the fork and ask her which way to go to church and she pointed correctly to the left. So we turn down that way and she points to the “right fork” and say, Actually, that way. How does she know what actually means?? She’s saying so many things now and is even getting better at saying things. She is now saying Hea-her for Heather instead of just Hea. Trooper is now Trooper instead of True-True.

She is getting so smart at her letters. She hasn’t memorized the order of them yet except for ABCD but she can tell you all the sounds they make…while dancing and clapping mind you. And if you write the letters on a piece of paper, she’ll tell what it is and what sound it makes.

Yesterday in nursery I think they were singing a bunch of songs because yesterday you could tell she was trying to sing something and today she was dancing and said Jesus Loves Me. Awww! I had her say it like 50 times. It was truly music to my ears.

We are still working on potty training. This morning Scott put her panties on. She went potty once and then the next time we asked if she had to go and she said no and about 10 minutes later peed in the foyer. At least it wasn’t on the carpet. If we insist she goes, she normally goes happily but she just doesn’t remember to go. Every blue moon she’ll run in there and go. I’ve even seen her take her own diaper off and run in there to go potty. I haven’t read anything about how to do this so any advice would be great, mommies!

Yesterday was probably the nicest

January 18, 2005 by Amy

Yesterday was probably the nicest day we’ve had as a family in a while. We were both of on MLK day and took our time getting ready. We left the house at about 11. The baby fell asleep on the way. We went to United Supply to get some rods for Emma’s curtains. Then went to Pier One. We headed to Jason’s Deli for lunch and it took forever but Emma was so well behaved. She never got out of her seat once and didn’t whine at all. We then went to TJ Maxx where she followed us around very nicely. She listened to all direction we gave her. The baby stayed asleep through this whole shopping trip. It was SO nice to shop with her asleep and have Emma mind us while we were out. I really miss shopping and am having so much fun decorating this living room. We came home after that and Emma took a nap, the baby took a nap. Scott watched a movie and I ironed Emma’s curtains and JUST LAYED AROUND. It was fabulous.

We’ve been decorating the living/dining

January 18, 2005 by Amy

We’ve been decorating the living/dining room like crazymen. We’ve painted the walls, painted our dining room chairs and base a dark brown color, hung new pictures. Yesterday I bought a wrought-iron thingy that hangs in the peak where our vaulted ceiling goes up and it looks so good! I also bought a large vase to sit on our dining room table and I love looking at it. We get a lot of light in the dining room and it looks so good. It has green and brown leopard sort of looking spots at the bottom of it and they shine so pretty. I have lots more plans for the dining room and I wish we had a ton of money to do it all at once!

I need to tell a

January 18, 2005 by Amy

I need to tell a few Emma stories.

We have been trying to potty train Emma. When she is at home, we put on her panties and try to get her to go. She’s been doing pretty good. We’ve had a few accidents but overall, she does well. Yesterday though she went poop in her panties (yeah, that’s when you know you’re a Mom and you can clean that up without throwing up). I told Mom and she said she watched a show recently that taught a potty training preschooler to do the “potty dance” when she had to go potty. So Mom leans down in front of Emma last night and says see Emma, this is what you do when you have to go potty. She had a long skirt on so she pulled it up and started moving her knees in and out singing, I gotta go potty. Mom stops and looks at Emma with a very bright, smiley face to get Emma’s reaction and Emma looks at her without missing a beat and says ‘mon, Grandma and turns around and heads to her room. It was THE funniest thing. She was like, OK, are you done doing the weird stuff, I want to play!

Then today Scott calls me and says that stop at a red light in the next town beside a grocery store. Emma starts hollering Emma’s neighbor. We have a man who’s like 80 that works in his yard constantly. Every once in a while, Scott and her go talk to him and Emma sees him occassionally out the bay windows at our dining room. Well, sure enough, Scott looks in the parking lot and there’s Fred walking into the store. Scott couldn’t believe it. I can’t either. How did she know that was him that far away??

The other day we were in Emma’s room playing and she “got on the phone”. I asked her who she was talking to and she put her finger up to her mouth and whispered, Shh, Emma phone. Meaning, be quiet, I’m trying to talk on the phone, Mommy!

She’s becoming quite a character.

Hallelujah! Lexi ate at 9:30pm

January 4, 2005 by Amy

Hallelujah! Lexi ate at 9:30pm last night, went to sleep at 10:30pm and didn’t wake up until 5:45am. If it wasn’t for Emma waking me up briefly at 3:00am, I would have gotten 7 hours of continuous sleep. It was close enough!!

I have to take the

January 3, 2005 by Amy

I have to take the little one to the dr this afternoon. She’s woken up with yucky green stuff in her eyes. I’m guessing she’s got the pink eye that Emma had. I don’t know if I want to go because I’m not sure if I really want her on antibiotics which I’m sure they’ll stick her on. Plus, those eye drops are a pain to do. Emma was really good with them the first 2 days but then went downhill from there. And trying to wipe her nose is like breaking her arm. She hates it. She’ll run and if I manage to get her she puts her hands over her face and turns it away. It’s a real pain. But I can’t have green snot wiped everywhere! Scott and I have both caught what Emma had too. Scott can hardly talk today. I was like that yesterday but seem better today.

I bought the paint for the living room yesterday. I am SO excited to get it done. The new pictures I bought are going to look good with them and I can’t wait until Mom gets time to make our curtains. That won’t be until like next Summer but it’s nice to know I’ll have everything else ready for them.

Work is getting a bit frustrating only because I’m not getting as much done with Lexi as I did with Emma. I know it will get easier as she gets older but I hate not feeling as productive as I used to be. I may have to start working evenings to make sure I get my hours in. Like Scott says, I have it made having such a nice job that I can work from home so I better make the best of it. I am so wiped out in the evenings though. It’s going to take some major commitment to sit down for an hour or two straight to get work done in the evenings after Emma has gone to sleep.

Lexi is two months old today. I can’t believe it has been that long. She smiles several times a day now. She has the cutest smile. I love when she does it. She can hold her head up pretty well. No grabbing of objects, turning over or anything like that.

Well, work calls and so does Lexi. In fact, so does Emma. gotta go.

Christmas turned out really well.

January 1, 2005 by Amy

Christmas turned out really well. The jump-o-lene we got Emma was huge. She loved it but we had to deflate it and put it in the garage. It took up our whole living room. Emma got a little bike and big easel from Scott’s parents and a table and chair set and bookcase from mine. Plus clothes and such. Scott bought me an Epson digital picture printer that has the scanner and copier in it too. The quality still isn’t quite what it is at a professional place, but it does well for grandparent pictures and such. The meal I fixed at Christmas was way very yummy. We had ham (Honeybaked Ham), sweet potatoes and squash casserole.

Since starting back to work I have almost no time to do anything. I am barely getting hours in. I think I’m going to have to start going in the office once a week to make sure I stay on top of things. It would be nice to get a break every once in a while anyway. I just hate having to pump at work!

New Years night went by without a glance. We were in bed by 10:30. Lexi woke up at 12:08 but of course that was too late to see the ball drop. I read on the bulletin board at babycenter that some babies are already sleeping through the night! I couldn’t believe it. Lexi is still up 3 times a night. I can not wait until I can get a full night’s sleep again. I know it will be a few more months, but gosh, I am ready!

MIL and FIL came and got Emma for the afternoon. I felt bad because she said to Emma, are you ready to go? I thought they were coming over to just spend time here. Then I felt bad because I wasn’t going over to their house since I don’t really have anywhere to go. I was going to say I was coming over but then I thought of all the stuff I can get done this afternoon with her gone. Like this! But, I should move on. I have lots of straightening up to do and our checkbook hasn’t been balanced in two or three weeks!

There is something different with

December 21, 2004 by Amy

There is something different with your second child. You just do things differently. Number one difference between how I handle Emma and Lexi is nursing. Now I have to preface this with saying Lexi is an all around better nurser than Emma. But with Emma I was such a clock watcher. 20 minutes on each breast and if it hadn’t been 3 or 4 hours since she ate, I would freak out thinking she wasn’t getting enough to eat (which looking back and how we nursed with that nipple shield, she probably didn’t get enough) or I was doing something wrong. With Lexi, if she’s fussy, I try to feed her to make sure she’s not hungry. I could care less if she just ate an hour ago. Maybe my milk supply is down and she is trying to nurse a lot to build it up. The amount of stress I feel with nursing with Lexi compared to Emma are worlds apart. Number two thing I do different is sleep. Miss Lexi sleeps on her tummy. I know! I’m horrible! But she sleeps so well like that. As in, last Thurs and Fri she slept 4 hours for her afternoon nap! Emma has never done that in her entire life I don’t think. Now that doesn’t necessarily mean that was the reason but still! Also, I will put Lexi down when she is still awake. And guess what, when she’s tired, she goes to sleep! No rocking, no singing! Number three difference…I get out of the house a lot more! I was so scared I would have to feed Emma somewhere other than the house that I would never go anywhere. With Lexi, we just put her in and go, go go! If she’s hungry, I find somewhere to feed her! Wow, how simple is that? That goes back to Emma not nursing well and taking 45 minutes though! Lexi can be done within 10-20 minutes. Now do I think Lexi is a better baby? No, I think I’m a better mommy. Maybe not better, but just more experienced. It’s just amazing how different I feel this time around. Not that I love her more or even like her more, I just feel much more secure in what to do with her.

Today Scott is not working and him and Emma went to run errands. I’m working ( can’t you tell) and Lexi just went down for a nap. We’re going to D&D’s tonight for our Christmas dinner. Emma is so excited to go. Scott built the girls a picnic table. I hope they like it. I think it will be great for the spring and summer. I know it worked so well for Emma’s birthday party for all the girls.

I can not wait until Christmas! Scott has bought me some big gift that I don’t know about. My guess is either a camera or printer but I can’t read his clues to tell which it might be. I can’t even imagine what it might be if it’s not that.
