I have been quite busy

August 17, 2004 by Amy

I have been quite busy with work this past week. We had a big implementation on Friday and Saturday and I’ve been dealing with the after-effects since.

Scott had to go help with Hurricane Charley on Friday night. He had to leave at 12am and sat at an intersection at Myrtle Beach for several hours until the storm got too bad and they were sent to their hotel. He came home on Saturday evening.

I had Emma stay with ILs on Friday night because of my work stuff I had to do on Saturday. I got SO much done on Saturday. While I was waiting on things to run, I cleaned the house and boy was it clean! Once Scott and Emma got home though it only lasted minutes.

Emma has been talking up a storm recently. A new one I remember is books. She also called Scott by his name a few times after she heard me calling for him by Scott when she was around.

I got REALLY lucky yesterday when I found the maternity bridesmaid dress I needed on ebay for only $35! It would have cost me over $130 for it brand new. David’s Bridal has 2 maternity dresses and I really wanted the other style but this one will do since it is the perfect color she is using. All the bridesmaids are choosing their own dress and there are 3 of them. One is wearing a satin material where the other is crepe like. I wanted the maternity one that was crepe like but the satin will do for $35!

I forgot to mention Sunday

August 10, 2004 by Amy

I forgot to mention Sunday was our 6th anniversary. We didn’t do much except go to Pizza Hut to dinner. I have had a major craving for Pizza Hut pizza the past few weeks and have been at least 3 or 4 times. It’s ridiculous. It is so bad I literally begin to salivate if I think of eating their pepperoni dipped in sauce. Hmmm..

So Scott and I decided that we would not get each other a card or present for our anniversary. I’m definitely not a flower person and neither of us are card people. It is nice, but usually just sits on the counter for a few days and then gets stuffed in a drawer or just thrown out. Maybe I’ll regret that one day, but it irritates me to keep old cards around. MIL keeps like every card that she gets and I think even started an album of them. Scott and I then decided we would make each other a card but we were so busy, we never got around to it. But, in the end, Scott couldn’t stand it and bought me a card. I have to admit it was nice. I felt like a real loser for not getting one for him though.

At the beach we discovered Scrabble. We had all wondered how it went and found it in the cabinet at the house. We read the rules and actually played two games. I won the first and Scott the second. We liked it so much Scott and I came home and bought the game for ourselves. We roped Heather into playing on Saturday and she loved it too. I feel kind of silly for just now figuring out how to play but I’m glad we did!

I went into work yesterday and today. Scott kept Emma yesterday and then [great-]MawMaw is keeping her today. Yesterday Scott said she cried for me and then wouldn’t nap without lying in the recliner with him. Last night she had a little harder time going to sleep and woke up a few times through the night. Hopefully today will go better and if not, hopefully the rest of the week will because I’m not planning on coming in anymore this week. After my drive home last, I’m surprised I came into today. My drive without any traffic is 25-30 minutes. With traffic in the morning 35-45. Last night there was a multicar accident and it took 1hr 25 minutes to get home. We literally went 5 miles an hour for about 5 miles, hence the extra hour!

We’re back from the beach!

August 8, 2004 by Amy

We’re back from the beach! The week quickly but pretty well. Emma forgot about me during the week and took up MIL “MawMaw” as her mother. It was good in some ways, bad in others. We left the beach yesterday and ILs didn’t come back until today so she has been a Mommy’s girl since then. I thought I would be hearing MawMaw every 2 seconds but she has only asked after her 3 or 4 times. She was excellent in the car on the way back. It is a 3 1/2 hr drive and she slept for the first 1 1/2 hr of it and then played pleasantly the rest of the way. I was more than thrilled. I had been dreading that drive the whole way. We didn’t do anything extremely exciting there. Just the normal shopping places..Broadway, Barefoot Landing, the new mall, flea markets. We went to the beach twice and didn’t stay too long or go more often because Emma doesn’t like the beach too much. She was ok with the water. She let me stand with her in the shallow part and let waves come up on her but she wasn’t running around splashing in it. The sand was a definite no-go. She wouldn’t even play with water in a hole because as soon as she felt the sand, she was itching to get it off. And that is impossible! The extended entry has a picture which pretty much sums up her beach trip. Kind of a yucky face, trying to get sand off her hands. But, she did have a ton of fun with all the family there. Her and Scott’s younger cousin H had a blast together. They played Barbie’s, legos, babies, balls, bubbles, coloring, stickers.

SIL did end up having one of her “moments” last night with her son after we left yesterday. He wanted to go to the teen club there and insisted until SIL finally gave in, dropped him off at the club and told him to find out how to get himself home. She then came home, tried to pack her bags to go home and said she was going to call DSS and tell them to get him because she was tired of trying with him. I still can’t believe she did that even as I’m typing this. Mind you, she also has a 9 month old that was there that I’m assuming MIL was taking care of and planning to take care of had she left. They of course had Scott talk to her and talk her into following ILs back. MIL called today and said she did stay but didn’t say one word on the 3 1/2 hr drive back. I truly believe she needs either heavy counseling or even medication. At least anger management skills at minimum would help. But she claims it won’t work. My nephew has gotten in a lot of trouble lately. But he is a good kid and if he had the right direction, he would be just fine. He just doesn’t have the right discipline and help. My BIL (not nephew’s father) is no help either. She’s ready to leave him too. He IS very lazy, has a bad attitude, has some weird opinions and generally is immature. Which doesn’t help. At all. They all just need help. They are all good people and have good hearts, but they just need someone to help them get it all together.

Mele, to answer your post the other day, we are naming the baby just Lexi. I want to call her Lexi so I’m skipping the full name and just naming her Lexi. I think Alexis is a beautiful name though. I’ve considered going ahead with that one several times.

Emma did her first somersault last Sunday by herself. It was a little crooked, but it counted. And she finally got some air on one of her jumps this week. She is really trying to talk. This week I think she said a whole sentence to her cousin but I couldn’t tell you what she said.

Picture of Emma…(I added one of the 3 of us too)

Thank goodness for extended warranties.

July 29, 2004 by Amy

Thank goodness for extended warranties. We bought one for about $1200 or so when we bought our car. It has lots of electronic gadgets so we figured it might be worth it. We have had several of the window motors replaced, the heated seat in the driver’s side (would never have been fixed without the warranty, it was $600) and two days ago my car overheated. Turns out two of the radiator fans needed replaced and the pressure had caused a crack in the reservoir so that had to be replaced. Guess how much that was?? $856!! We only had to pay our $50 deductible and then a $38 service fee that the warranty wouldn’t cover. I can’t believe what a rip off that was. We have to take it to a fancy smancy dealership certified service department so the warranty will cover it. It still needs two belts replaced and the spark plugs but Scott can do that or we will take it to somewhere cheaper since it is not covered under the warranty.

I am SO confused about what to do with Emma’s crib/bed situation. She does great at night, has never tried to climb out of her crib but she DOES NOT sleep well during naps there. She sleeps in our bed for naps. I wonder if she would do better if she had her own comfy toddler bed. But then I think of having to chase her down at night when she crawls out of bed. But then what will we do for the new baby’s crib? I don’t know. A mother of 4 told me to keep Emma in her crib until Lexi is 3 months and then move her to a bigger bed while Lexi sleeps in a bassinet in our room. But then that stinks because I won’t have a crib all pretty and ready in the nursery. I know it’s kind of pointless when they are first born to have a crib, but I have to have a decorated nursery!

I’m still battling this cold

July 28, 2004 by Amy

I’m still battling this cold a little bit. Emma has some sort of diarrhea thingy going on. I promise her poo was rosy pink yesterday afternoon. It was THE weirdest thing I’ve seen come out of her yet. She won’t eat much either. I mean, she gets by with a couple bites at each meal and those were coaxed into getting. Not sure what is going on there. She doesn’t have a fever so I haven’t gotten that concerned yet.

Yesterday I ended up going into work and Emma stayed with Scott’s grandmother. She didn’t have a nap until I got her home and she fell asleep about 7. That is the longest she has ever gone without a nap. She slept until about 8:15 and didn’t go to sleep for the night until about 11. She can’t do that often, I was about to knock out myself. She is kinda crabby today on and off. MIL is coming to get her when she gets off at 1 so I’m hoping she falls asleep on the way to her house and gets a good nap in.

We are going to the beach on Monday. It keeps slipping my mind that we’re going. It’s like, oh, we’re going to the beach. For some reason it’s not a big deal to me. I guess I should be excited for Emma. MIL is going to take Emma with her when they go on Sunday. I was all for that so I don’t have to be in the car with Emma on a 3 1/2 hour drive. No thanks.

My mom and dad bought a house in Maryland where my side of the family lives. Dad is up there now remodeling it. Seems like he has gotten a lot done. We will probably go up and stay for a week in September. I am definitely not looking forward to that drive with Emma then. We are planning to get a DVD player for the car so she can watch the Wiggles when she gets cranky. I hope that does the trick.

I have been sick the

July 25, 2004 by Amy

I have been sick the past couple of days. Some kind of sinus thing. The house needs cleaned but its hard when you can hardly go 5 minutes without blowing your nose.

Emma has been a MawMaw’s (MIL) girl the past couple of days. The only thing she can say after leaving is MawMaw?, MawMaw?, PawPaw?, MawMaw? We try to explain they are back at home but she keeps on. She only wants her to hold her when she is around though. MawMaw of course is soaking it up!

The weekend went pretty good.

July 19, 2004 by Amy

The weekend went pretty good. Emma did not go to sleep until late Friday and then was up at 5:15 on Saturday. Without her paci, she couldn’t calm herself down but finally I got her back to sleep by walking her up and down the hall. I tihnk we managed to get another hour or so of sleep. But I was like a walking zombie. We went Mom’s shop and I half slept in her comfy chair for about an hour. I did feel a little rested after we left. Saturday afternoon I somehow managed to empty 5 more boxes and organizing my new shelf in my closet. We now only have 2 boxes left and we almost of a clean 3rd bedroom. I keep putting off planning the nursery until it is clean in there. Saturday evening I cooked dinner and had Scott’s family over to eat for my birthday dinner. I didn’t plan it as such but that’s what it turned out to be. Sunday I went to church and then stayed over at Mom’s all day since Scott was working. She cooked me steak dinner for my birthday and then let me take a really long nap!! It was heavenly. Oh and she baked me my favorite chocolate cake she makes. The bad part of yesterday is that Emma didn’t nap while we were at Mom’s so at 6 when I went home, she fell asleep and didn’t wake up until 8. So that meant she did NOT want to go to sleep last night. I think she finally fell asleep a little after 11. She did sleep in until after 7 this morning. She did ask for her paci though. Poor thing.

I am trying to think of the new things Emma has been doing. She will say mess when she drops food or something. Well, a lot of times it is uh-oh. She’s gotten really good at giving kisses. Some of her smacking is very loud! She knows up, down, out, off. She understands I think all of what I say. This morning I was opening mail and told her to go put the magnet on the refrigerator and she did it. She knows where her dirty clothes, diapers, general trash all go. We are working on counting, but everything is two. MIL says 1-2-3-Jump! Emma says 2-2-Jump!
We are having difficulty at our house with her high chair. We have it pulled up to the table without the tray. She will sit in it when there are other people here or any other high chair at someone else’s house pretty as you please and the minute Scott and I have her by ourselves she cries big crocodile tears when we try to put her in there. She acts like it is a punishment. I don’t know what we are going to do. Sometimes we have even put her at a regular chair and she won’t sit there, we have to put her in our lap. I don’t know what the deal is.

The baby has been moving LOTS lately. I feel her at small intervals throughout the day. I definitely don’t remember Emma moving around this much. I am definitely full time in maternity clothes but I have gained only about 5 lbs. It seems like more.
