It’s the weekend!

August 25, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Last night we ended up going out to eat with my Mom, aunt and sister.  It was sort of girls night out thing.  The local restaurant was extremely busy and we ended up ordering while we were still waiting for a table.  Our food came out right before we sat down so it actually worked out pretty nicely.  Sit down and there’s your food.  Lexi fell asleep after she ate though.  Which was nice for the restaurant but then she woke up at home right after 9 and didn’t want to go back to sleep until 11:30 or so.  I had planned to touch up my hair and finish cleaning the house but I had to lay down with her in my bed to convince her to go back to sleep and I didn’t wake up until 3:30 this morning.  So now I’m sitting here doing my hair, trying to get ready before FIL picks up the girls for the day.

Then my orders are to take my aunt shopping for my cousin’s girlfriend who apparently doesn’t have much support from her family so my aunt tries to fill in the gaps.  Me, go shopping?  Why, yes, I can help!  So today should be fun.  The only bad part is my aunt is extremely meticulous. She’s one of those that looks at every. single. thing.  She was in Garden Ridge yesterday for like 5 hours.  No lie.

Alrighty, Emma is calling me to play and since she’ll be gone for the day, I’m going to go sit and play Polly Pocket for a moment….by the way, I did this last night with her and wrote down some things she said.  I’ll have to post that later…

not much to report

August 23, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

It’s not normal as of late but I don’t have much to report for tonight.

My aunt is in town and we all went out for lunch and then she came over here with Mom and Heather this evening.  In between, I’ve been working on the youth group’s podcast.  It’s a long and irritating story but someone uninstalled our video capture software off of our computer at the church so it’s taking me twice as long to do it this week.

The girls are spending the night with my mom so I’m hoping to get some good sleep tonight.

Ya’ll, other than that, I don’t have much to say, so good night!

Laughing Your Way to a Better Marriage

August 22, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Mark Gungor is a speaker/singer/former pastor who speaks on marriages.  Somehow my parents found him on Life TV or something like that.  It was an hour or so show.  It was so funny my mom went straight to his web site and bought the 4 disc DVD set.  I’ve watched two of four of the discs and let me just say, this is HILARIOUS.  It was the kind where you clap your hands, slap your knee and nudge your partner kind of laughing.  You should watch it whether or not you have marriage issues, it is just extremely entertaining and even eye-opening.  Simple things you thought only you and your partner goes through seems to be a universal issue.  He talks in one about the “Tale of two brains”, talking about the differences between men in women in things like communication and s-e-x drive.  In the second disk it is called “Yo Momma” giving the top 5 list of ways to have the best s-e-x you’ve ever had.  Yes, it’s very entertaining and I highly recommend it…

Amy’s a rocker–haha, I’m laughing too

August 22, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

img_7714.JPGI got the black hair last night and then I sang in our youth band tonight.  Neither are related but someone did make a comment that I looked more rocker-ish now…let’s hope it’s less Ozzy-ish and more Kat Von Dish.  I should have painted my nails black and put on red lipstick.

Anyway, the entire afternoon and evening was spent at church.  The guys in the band asked if I would sing with the band two weeks ago.  I sort of ignored them, sure they were joking with the old-lady youth leader, and then they asked again last week if I would come to practice.  I wasn’t sure if any other youth had volunteered which is the optimal choice but I didn’t want to leave them hanging tonight.  And hey, I DO like singing and usually manage to hit a few good notes when I sing.  Although before tonight I had never held a microphone to sing and have only sung as part of school and church choirs starting in middle school.

At first, I was having a really hard time singing.  I wasn’t belting it and the other guy that had ended up showing didn’t really know how to lead either.  We sounded like two 8 year olds singing to a cassette tape in their bedroom.

Yeah, that good.

And then a girl got up with us and while she was good at timing, I don’t think she hit one note, bless her heart.  The other youth dragged her away from the stage and the guy singing with me’s girlfriend got up and sang with me.  She used to sing with St when he was there but she hadn’t been at practice in a long time.  After she got up, I did much better.   She was familiar with singing with the band on those songs, so she knew when to come in more than we did..which wasn’t hard.

Practice was generally horrible though.  We had a hard time knowing when to come in as all we had was chord sheets to follow and none of us stayed on tune the whole time.  But once youth group started and we did the 4 song set and we did purdy darn good.  It was far from perfect.  We ended songs in mid-sentence as the players weren’t sure whether to do the bridge one more time and all of us were not singing in tune the whole time and one song we missed almost a whole verse.

It wasn’t pretty.

But we tried and with the whole youth group singing, no one hardly noticed.  It’s sort of a joke in our youth group that no one can keep time and no one can stay on tune so there’s no high expectations, they just need someone to lead.

So anyway, I’m going to go next week to practice hopefully with the other two youth singers and we’ll be a lot better.

And to be honest, I sort of dig the whole being on stage singing thing.  But shh, don’t tell anyone.

Nice Matters Award

August 22, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Look!  I got my first award ever!  Allison over at Caffeinted Ramblings  presented me with it just today.  As she mentions, her and I have been fangirl friends for years online.  Thanks so much, Allison!

So I think the way this goes is I’m supposed to give this to 3 other women.

First has to go to Jaynee at Cootiehog.  She’s also a long time online friend but I’ve also had the pleasure of knowing her in person as well.  She’s a great writer and just a great person!

The next is actually Jaynee’s sister Jen over at Lintefiniel Musing. She’s a sweet, honest person I always enjoying catching up with.

The last I’d like to give to Jeana of Days to Come.  I’ve just recently found her and I find her writing quite entertaining and funny and seem to relate a lot to her.

So, ladies, pass this on to 3 others!

Be happy!

August 22, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

S is over here and she disobeyed Scott and it was something that could get her hurt so Scott gave her a spanking (yes, we have permission from his sister to do so).  Lexi and Emma peaked around the corner where Scott was explaining to S why she was getting a spanking and Lexi says to Emma in a somewhat worried voice, “S is getting a spanking.”

So Scott and S walk out of the kitchen and Lexi says to Scott,

Daddy, be happy!

Pimping my husband

August 22, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I’ve been begging Scott to write down or record all the stories he tells me from work.  Some of them are funny, some sad, some shocking some just captivating.  He HATES to write and even worse type though so has been reluctant.  But I finally set him up with a blog of his own and we’ve agreed to do it together.  He has written the first one but we plan to have him dictate the stories and I will type them up for him.  I REALLY wanted him to video record them.  He is a great storyteller and some of the stories of wrecks and DUIs are just plain easier to understand and in some case funnier if you can see him tell the story.  But he WILL NOT let me do that.  So the written word is all we’ve got.  Well,  and he’s going to be adding some of his pictures in the gallery I set up.  I know there is quite an audience for police stories.  I mean, just think of the success of the COPS show.  I want him to do it for personal reasons of wanting to put a book together one day of his career.

So it’s just starting up and we’re still tweaking things, but here’s Scott’s police blog!

I know a Survivor!!

August 22, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

And I mean CBS’s Survivor!  And I guess I don’t technically KNOW the survivor, but just about as close as I can get to her.  Leslie Nease is a local Christian radio personality, which I listen to from time to time.  She lives in Fort Mill as well, has children in the schools here and guess what else?  teaches at my Y.   And I could have sworn I’ve written about her on here before but one morning I went to a cycling class and although she never introduced herself I figured out through the workout that that’s who she was.  I knew she taught a bible study there but I didn’t realize at the time that she taught as well.  But a lot of the songs she played she said were new Christian songs and it was kind of funny, she talked as if she was on the radio, commenting on the songs and giving insights.  She even apologized one time saying she can’t help herself when she gets a mic in front of her.  It was a good class.

So our newspaper runs an article today that says she has been chosen as a contestant and will not be back on the radio until after the finale.

She is a really, really nice person.  I’m guessing she will be very outspoken about her faith,.  The paper even mentions she is seeing this as a sort of missions trip.  So I’m predicting she will be either well liked and do really well or be one of the first to go.  In either case, I WILL be watching this season of Survivor.
