The gym

October 20, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So I don’t think I’ve mentioned that I quit the Y last month.  I just couldn’t get motivated after I lost the weight (not by diet pills–good ‘ol Weight Watchers) and then S left the youth and we got really busy and it just wasn’t happening anymore.  And then I started taking a hard look at our expenses and it just wasn’t worth the $70 we were paying for how often we were going.

But then today Mom randomly says why aren’t you going to the gym today?  You really should go to the gym.  Dr. Oz on Oprah says you should go to the gym.  I always felt good when you were going to the gym.  You know our family history and YOU NEED TO GO TO THE GYM.

Something like that.

And really, I do miss going.  I’ve not been sleeping well since I quit.  Hence, this will be a post-midnight post and it’s NOT an automatic post.

So now I’m thinking of rejoining the Y.  I have another 30 days I can rejoin without spending any money on a joining fee.  I talked about it with Scott and he wanted me to check in on Anytime Fitness around here.  It’s a gym open, well, anytime.  I left messages today but haven’t gotten anything returned.  I found out that Heather has a coupon for a week trial for me so maybe as early as tomorrow I’ll be back up on the elliptical.

Disney Trip

October 20, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I think we need to plan a trip to Disney.  I am really not looking forward to it.  My experiences in the past have been fine but now I’m the mom having to plan it, pay for it and then carry the tired toddler for hours.  So I’m not looking forward to it.

My first visit to Disney was in 1985 I believe when I was 7.  We stayed at a resort near there and we had a great time.  I remember the pool, the records that it had to play there. I remember the tea cups and It’s a Small World and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and how I was too young to ride Space Mountain.

Fast forward to 2002.  The day before we left for Disney with my in-laws, I found out I was pregnant.  We still went and stayed at an Orlando rental home.  The place was nice with a screened in pool in the back yard.  It was in April so it was too cold to get in but the concept was nice.  I still couldn’t ride Space Mountain but we had a decent time.

Now here we are in 2007 and my children are nutso about Disney Princesses.  In fact, they love several Disney characters.  They REALLY want to go to Disney.  I know for a fact I need to give in soon as Emma’s already getting to the point where she’s outgrowing them.  I really want them to be completely awed when they see Cinderella’s castle and the parade with all the real princesses.

I guess I need to get off my duff, suck it up and plan a trip.

I need a new rug!

October 19, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I’ve been desperately looking for a new rug for my living room lately.  The one I have now has kool-aid stains, marker stains and who knows what else from the kids.  I found these rugs and like the design of them.

rug1 rug2

But I like the coloring of this one.

rug3

Actually, that last one could actually work if I changed out my pillows.

I found these rugs here.  They have all kinds of stuff on there..curtains, bedding, lighting, curtain poles, even fabric–which I desperately need in my  living room and kitchen as well.

Heather, since you probably know my decor the best, what do you think of that last one?

Friday’s Feast #165

October 19, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Here’s a new meme I’m trying out.

Appetizer
If you were a dog, what breed would you be, and why?

A chocolate lab. I look good in brown.

Soup
What does the color purple make you think of?

My 18 different shades of purple socks I had as a teenager of the 90s.

Salad
Approximately how long does it take you to get ready each morning?

30 minutes or less.

Main Course
How many cousins do you have, and are you close to them?

On my Mom’s side, I have 1 younger male cousin and 1 female second cousin that I count as my cousin because she’s only 6 days older than me. *Update* I forgot two more younger male cousins on my Mom’s side.  Whoops. * On my Dad’s side, I have 5 younger female cousins and 1 younger male cousins. I was the first grandchild for both sets of my grandparents.

I would say we aren’t all that close. I’ve lived 8 hours away from them my whole life. We get along well when we’re together and I do keep in touch with some of the older girls more than the others. They seem like really cool people too so I do regret not being closer to them than I am. 🙁 The youngest ones are the same age as my children and they have a great time playing when we visit.

Dessert
Take your initials (first, middle, last) and come up with something else those letters could stand for. (Example: SFO = Sweet Funny Otter)

Grey’s Anatomy “The Heart of the Matter” October 18

October 18, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Yes!  Yes!  Yes!  Grey’s was FINALLY back tonight.  Up until this episode, Grey’s hasn’t really felt much like Grey’s but tonight rocked. They finally found a good balance between existing storylines, the interns and the medicine.  I LOVED it.

The whole cafeteria beat-down thing was hilarious.  Well, until of course Izzie realized there wasn’t going to be such a thing and then it was sort of like watching a really embarrassing moment.

The old intern Norm was funny tonight.  I loved the use of "seriously" and replacement of words like untoward for uncool.  Hopefully that will be just this episode because too much of that will get old fast but I thought it was cute.

The storyline with the chief’s niece was heartbreaking.  She was so young.  And especially with my grandmother going through cancer and thinking a lot recently about how much it has shown in my family.  Well, it was tough to listen to her give up.

Derek’s confession at the elevators was super sweet.  He wants a lifetime.  Awww.  Hard-headed Meredith still can’t commit and it’s driving me crazy they’re still stretching THAT out.

But my favorite of all tonight was Alex.  Alex grew on me last season in a big way and tonight was another one of those moments.  You realize he’s mad at Izzie because he wanted to be the first after Denny.  And then when we walked in her room at the end.  Whoa!  That’s so swee-et.  I always wanted her and Alex together since Denny especially when he held her in that chair right after Denny died.  Aw, I hope they get together.

Definitely my favorite episode of this season and I hope that it just goes up from here.

On Sharing

October 18, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I don’t understand what it is about toddlers (and maybe it’s with all children) that they must have things assigned to them.  As in, this is my cup, this is my chair, this is my book, this is mine, mine, mine.  Everyone has everything assigned to them.  Tonight S was over here and we were outside.  We have a swingset that has 3 swings.  The left one S usually sits in, Emma sits in the middle and Lexi usually sits in the one on the right.  Fine.

But today Lexi wanted to sit in the middle one.  S got in hers but Emma would not even sit in Lexi’s on the right.  She whined, "But Lexi’s in myyy swing."  I say, "Emma, these swings don’t have names on them, you can swing in that one."  You know, she stood there and watched S and Lexi swing instead of swinging in "Lexi’s" swing?

The girls got up and played on the slide and then made their way back to the swings.  This time Lexi sat in the middle, Emma sat on the left in S’s and S would. not. swing on the one on the right.  She sat there with a scowl on her face the whole time.  I kept trying to explain they were missing out on swinging time by standing there and they needed to share and blah, blah, blah.  I don’t get it.  They would rather sit there, miss out on swinging and pout than get in "someone else’s" swing.

Little Texas, Rascall Flatts, same thing

October 18, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

The other night we went out somewhere and I heard that song “What Might Have Been” by Little Texas. Back in the day Scott and I were HUGE country music fans. In fact, we were even into the line dancing and all. We’d go out every single Wednesday, sometimes Thursday and Friday nights to a country club in Charlotte. Anyway, I realized that song is a lot like one of my favorite Rascal Flatts songs on my iPod “What Hurts the Most”. Donchathink? OK, so Little Texas and Rascall Flatts don’t even compare but I really think the songs do. I’ve never had the opportunity to see Rascal Flatts in concert but if I could ever get Rascal Flatts tickets, I would love to see that song performed live.
