Today’s Funny Stuff

November 18, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Two things that the girls said today that made me laugh…one from each.

When Emma has trouble saying words, I have her look at my lips and repeat the word and that seems to help.  Lexi really wanted us to hear what she wanted to do when she got home and I guess got really confused on that phrase and says, “Mommy!  Emma! Look at my ears!  I want to get water when I get home and then go to bed.”

As for Emma’s funny comment…the girls had been put to bed but they kept playing.  I went in to check on them and re-tuck them in but Emma  was half sitting up with her head leaned back on the pillow.

Me: Emma, get your head off the headboard and lay down and go to sleep.

Emma (in her 12 year old voice): Uh, it’s a headboard so aren’t you supposed to put your head on it?

I couldn’t hide my laugh.

Sunday Scripture

November 18, 2007 by Amy 4 Comments

Sunday-ScriptureI feel like I could write on so many verses this week!  I hope you are opening your Bible each week and letting God speak to you through His word.  I know it is such a struggle for me!

My scripture this week is Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

The Sunday School lesson I’m teaching this morning is on wisdom.  Specifically from the time in Solomon’s life when God told him he could have anything he wanted and Solomon asked for wisdom.  God gave him that and all the wealth and riches he could give him just because he had chosen so well.  I think it’s quite ironic Solomon was wise in asking for wisdom.  Seems like he was already a little bit wise.

Anyway, for a few years now, the concept of wisdom has captured my attention.  I have prayed that He gives it to me as I believe the only way to carry out what God has for me is to be wise in my decision at all times.  How important that is for the 15, 16 and 17 year olds I’ll be teaching this morning as they are just making so many important decisions.  And yet, I’m 15 years their senior and it’s still so important I have God’s wisdom so I’m carrying out what God has planned for me.

So how about you? To participate, simply post a verse, a set of verses or even just a reference to a verse that means something to you now or maybe even in the past.  Explain why it’s important or don’t. It’s up to you.  Go now and post and then come back. Post your name and then a direct link to you blog entry. If you don’t have a blog, feel free to leave yours in the comments. Here is the code for the graphic above.

Clean House

November 17, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Ah, a clean house.  Or at least it was similar to this (that was before we switched around the rooms though) for at least 20 minutes before the kids were brought home this afternoon.  I got to do everything I wanted to and man was it nice.  It took me over 4 hours to get completely done.

This afternoon Heather came over and we’ve all been watching Ratatouille on and off.  I’ve also been sort of studying for Sunday School and studying the coupon ads for this week.  All in all, it’s been a not-so lazy day at home so far.

So it begins

November 17, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

imageIt’s 8am Saturday morning.  Scott’s at work and the girls spent the night with MIL.

And so the cleaning begins.

Somebody crank the music.  I need to wake up first.

Grey’s Anatomy November 15, 2007

November 16, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

This wasn’t a fantastic episode for me but it was ok.  A few highlights:

  • Didn’t like the way Bailey acted through the episode but I guess a lot of us have been there.  Or I have.  I could relate to her speech at the end.
  • I liked the Mer/Der hand holding.
  • I liked Lexie’s speech to Meredith at the end.  Mer was out of line with her comment.
  • Glad it looks like Gizzie has ended.
  • I liked the girl in the OR with McDreamy. I thought it might have been Lexie at the time.  I like her comment though that she had been in 38 surgeries with him and he had just noticed her.  I’ve felt like that a lot.  Invisible to people.   More so as a teenager than now.
  • Christina was hilarious not-running to the surgery.
  • And I loved her answer to Mer’s question about not skipping any class.  "No, never, not once."  Something like that.  I never did skip a class in school or college either.
  • I liked Callie’s explanation to the girl about her demotion. I have never aspired to be a manager just because I like to program so much and don’t want to manage people programming.
  • I liked the overall theme of the show about how you never really grow up.  Definitely could relate to the theme although I think the show itself could have been better.  It seems to me the writing this year has been less intent on moving the stories forward.  Like Chief acting like a wife just to make it funny and Bailey’s speech to McDreamy seemed less about the fact that they would actually have that conversation than the writers just wanting to work in that conversation.  I don’t know, maybe I’m way off base.

Weekend plans

November 16, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Um, I have none really.

Scott works today and tomorrow and is off Sunday.  Mom didn’t get the girls today like normal and I have S this afternoon.  I’m hoping MIL gets the girls tonight as it’s been 3 or 4 weeks since she’s kept them overnight.  They are supposed to go to a birthday party tomorrow but I don’t think I’ll take them.  After last weekend, I’m sort of partied out.  I know I should though.  Maybe MIL will take them since it’s a sort of family member on her side.

Anyway, besides that I have no real plans.  I’ve got a roast in the crockpot so we’ll be eating in tonight.  If MIL gets the girls, I will be doing a deep-clean of the house in the morning.  I want it spotless like it hasn’t been all at once in quite some time.

We’re almost home

November 16, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

99% of the time, we have the two screen DVD player playing in our van for the kids.  And they like to change DVDs often.  It’s a pain and if we’re anywhere in a 5 mile radius of home I just say, "We’re almost home and you won’t have enough time to start anything else.  We’ll pick a DVD next time we’re in the van."  To date, that seems to work.

Today I picked up the girls and S from preschool.  S wanted to work the remote which Emma is normally the controller of.  In fact, when we get in the van, one of her first questions is usually, "Where’s my remote?"  So when S wanted to use the remote today about 2 minutes into our ride home, Emma says, "We’re almost home.  I’ll have to do it for now."

2nd CVS & Walgreens Deal November 11-17, 2007

November 16, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

OK, I was really kicking myself from Sunday after I learned the coupons I had for Garnier for $2 EACH would have worked and I would have had only pennies oop instead of $5.  With those coupons (found at coupons.com) and the $2/10 CVS coupon, you end up making over $4.  Seems like a no-brainer.  So I was insistent to go back and do it again when I realized the limit was 2 and not 1.  But the smallest ECB I had was $10 so I had to work up a bigger deal to use all of it.  Well, people, that’s not as easy as it sounds when you are using so many coupons and trying to earn as many ECBs as possible but after sitting down and running some numbers, this is what I came up with…

2 Garnier $5.99 products (I ended up getting the cleansers this time instead of the towelettes)
5 2pack CVS soap @ 1.99 a piece
2 B1G1 L’oreal lip color products that cost $5

The plan was to use

$5/$25 beauty purchase
$3/15 CVS coupon
$2/10 CVS coupon
2 $2 Garnier coupon
$2.50/$10 CVS brand coupon
$10 ECB

That should have brought my total to .43 or so while earning $15 in ECBs.

My mistakes were the soap was not on sale as moneysavingmom.com reported.  Not sure if it was on old sale she had on her monthly deals or her store sells it for less.  Mine were $2.29.  That was $1.50 more than planned.

Then, I bought L’oreal nail polish which was Buy 1 Get 50% off instead of B1G1.  They had tags posted all over the place and I just didn’t pay attention to the difference.  That was another $2.50 wasted.

So I ended up with $5.01 oop.

Well, I stewed over that over dinner and I couldn’t handle I paid so much for nail polish.  So when I went with Heather, I returned the nail polish and they gave me $8.02 on a gift card.  Made me happy as a lark although I feel bad because the $5/$25 beauty coupon wouldn’t have worked if I hadn’t originally bought it but I will respend that money at CVS, so no worries.  So all in all, I got $31 worth of product with no oop and got back $23 to spend next week when originally all I had in my pocked was $10 ECB.  Sweet.

As for Walgreens:

I had a $6 Register Reward that was expiring in the next couple of days and we needed milk so I decided to buy milk and fill it in with something else.  I used their weekly in-store ads to buy green beans and sweet potatoes and shredded cheese with the milk and paid $3.24 oop. Not too bad even just for a gallon of milk.  I still have my October rebates I’m waiting for before I can make any more deals there with no money oop.
