Sunday Scripture

December 9, 2007 by Amy 3 Comments

My scripture this week is Proverbs 31:30

Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman the fears the Lord is to be praised.

I have to be honest with this post. There was a girl tonight at the Christmas party that was quite charming and beautiful. She’s a pretty woman with just the right clothes, nice body, make up and hair. She’s quite outgoing and held the attention of the room during the exchange. I have to admit to being a tad jealous of her. Yeah, I have some style and I’m not ugly but she’s got the outgoing personality that I don’t have. I sat and smiled during the night, being entertained by everyone else. And there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s nothing wrong with what she was doing either. But *I* have to be careful what I get jealous of in other people. Yes, at times I meet a very godly woman and wife and want to be like her. And that’s good. That’s like looking at the Proverbs 31 woman and aspiring to be that wise woman. But tonight I found myself longing after charm and beauty and as Proverbs 31 says…that’s only deceptive and temporary. This verse happens to be one I’m studying for as part of Sunday School for tomorrow. It’s been a favorite of mine for quite some time and it was a good reminder for me tonight to keep my priorities straight and remember the kind of woman and wife I want to be.

So how about you? To participate, simply post a verse, a set of verses or even just a reference to a verse that means something to you now or maybe even in the past. Explain why it’s important or don’t. It’s up to you. Go now and post and then come back. Post your name and then a direct link to you blog entry. If you don’t have a blog, feel free to leave yours in the comments. Here is the code for the graphic above.

Christmas Party number…3

December 9, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Three down, several more to go. Tonight was a good time. Jaynee had a very diverse group of people there. She’s a brave woman inviting church, work, personal and family friends all to one party. But I think we all mingled pretty well. It was nice to see people we recognized from last year. I think it’s kind of interesting to catch up with people at the same party every year and never really know them outside of that. I also enjoyed talking with Jen after only meeting her briefly back in the fall.

One neat little thing happened worth mentioning. I got to talking to one of the girls there that works with Jaynee’s husband and it turns out we went to school together, I used to live in the same neighborhood as a bunch of her friends and we actually dated the same guy. Pretty small world if you ask me.

All in all, the food was fabulous and the exchange was funny. One question pretty much sums up the exchange – “May I please have your poop?”

Checking in this busy Saturday

December 8, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Last night and today have been/will be busy but wanted to check in.  The Christmas party for Scott’s shift was a lot of fun last night.  I realized that the Trivia Pursuit, Pop Culture version is worthless because most of it is pop culture before 1990.  I was horrible at it.

This morning I woke up just in time to be at choir practice at 10 and then the four of us went to eat and then went to buy a Christmas present.  At least that’s one more marked off.

Our prospective youth pastor is in town and we’re supposed to take him out to dinner.  I think we may make it to part of that before we head to Jaynee’s white elephant exchange.

Now I need to clean with what little time I have.  So here I go…

Fantastic news

December 7, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

My medical insurance doesn’t start with the new company until March 1.  COBRA for the family was quoted to me at $1,100/month!!!  If you are only going to miss coverage for 60 days or less, you can opt out but then sign up and retro pay if something bad happens.  However, mine will be almost 90 days so up until this morning I thought we were going to have to pay over 3K for insurance over the next three months.

Ouch.  That hurts even thinking of it.

But thankfully I had Scott call the highway patrol HR office and we can opt into their cheapest state plan (around $200 a month) within 31 days from today since there was  loss of coverage and then cancel everything within 31 days after March 1.  So yay, that’s over 2K just saved.  And we still have our Health Savings Account with money in it from my high deductible plan with my old (as of tomorrow) company.

Seven Things About Me

December 7, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Amy tagged me for a meme to share seven things about me you might not know.  Which now that I actually need to type something in I’m realizing I totally overshare on this blog and I can’t imagine what you might not know about me.

  1. I used to be deaf in one ear.  God healed me at a healing service when I was very young.
  2. I have never drank, smoked or done drugs.  And I don’t ever swear.   It’s just that Type A, first child, be a good Christian girl in me.
  3. I usually don’t get ready for the day until lunchtime.  Unless I get a shower the night before and can wash my hair before I get the kids to school.  Or like today when the DirectTV guy shows up way early and I have to hop in the shower so I’m not walking around in my bath robe.
  4. I don’t like wearing shoes around the house.
  5. I do not like vegetables raw except for carrots.  And then they have to be dipped in ranch.
  6. I think men with tattoos on their neck are hot.
  7. I have a bad habit of slouching.

Grey’s Anatomy Crash Into Me Part 2 December 6, 2007

December 7, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Generally, tonight was an ok episode. No major storyline moving ahead.

My favorite lines:

Meredith to Hahn when they’re working on Ray, “Shut. up!”

Lexie asks how Seth Green’s character is and he says something like, “Well, not great if I’m being honest.”

Bailey goes on her vows rant to tell Tucker and George says, “Can I just do some charts?”

George and Bailey deciding on the incision:
Bailey: Do you think it’s jagged.
George: Yeah, it’s jagged.
Bailey: I thought so too.

George saying to the white supremacist, “I believe if you were dead the world would be a better place.”

Callie after Hahn asks Sloan not to hit on her at the bar, “He still can’t promise that.”

Scenes I liked:

Hahn yelling at herself after she made a mistake.

Izzie and George at the end deciding they aren’t going to be together but decide on “maybe someday”.

The kiss! McDreamy and the nurse. Woah. I watched that through my fingers covering my eyes.

Yang telling Bailey how she took offense to Bailey taking her off of Hahn’s watch because of her skin color.

Overwhelmed

December 6, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I’m a little overwhelmed right now.  I came to the realization today that I have less than 2 weeks to finish my Christmas shopping since we’re going to Maryland the 19th and I had a total of 3 people marked off my list.  The girls and I ended up making a trip to the mall and Wally World (ugh, but I had gift cards to use) and were able to knock five more people off my list.  And may I say how good my girls are shopping these days.  Emma walked beside the cart and Lexi rode in the cart and didn’t even ask to get out in the toy department.  She just kept telling me to scoot the cart one way or the other.  Fine with me!  And I didn’t even buy them anything even though we bought for four other children.  Very proud of them tonight.

Beyond Christmas, tonight I was feeling a little overwhelmed because I had two implementation for work and then two production jobs failed.  Also tomorrow is my last day with my consulting company so I’ve been trying to finish up all the paperwork and number crunching to make sure I’m paid correctly.

Beyond Christmas and work, I have stuff on the side to do. The pastor asked me to get some clips from some DVDs together for the Christmas cantata.  I have two people interested in me doing web sites.  I need to get Flash installed (and learned) pronto.

Beyond Christmas and work and side jobs, I have miscellaneous stuff like getting my elliptical fixed.  It’s squeaking really badly bad a lot and I had to call the manufacturer today.  They’re supposed to be sending us parts and a technician within a few days.  Also Scott ordered us DirectTV last week and the guy is coming tomorrow to install it.  My only instructions from Scott were to "make sure the house is cleaned up so he’s not tripping over stuff."  Nice.

Beyond Christmas and work and side jobs and miscellaneous house stuff, I have Christmas parties to prepare for.  Food to prepare and gifts to buy/find and wrap.

And beyond all of that, I have the normal fix food, do laundry, watch tv stuff I need/want to do.

Yes, I’m overwhelmed right now.
