Christmas meme

December 21, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Jaynee tagged me with this.

1. Wrapping or gift bags?
Wrapping unless it is shaped weird.

2. Real or artificial tree?
Fake, fake, fake. And pre-lit.

3. When do you put up the tree?
The Friday after Thanksgiving.

4. When do you take the tree down?
Some time after Christmas and before New Year’s.

5. Do you like egg nog?
Yes.

6. Favourite gift received as a child?
I was thinking of this the other night. I think the one I remember most is getting my record player/tape cassette player.

7. Do you have a nativity scene?
Yes.

8. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
My aunt is notorious for not-so-great gifts. I’ve received lots of purses, earring and even shoes that just aren’t “me”.

9. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail–a 4×8 card with a Christmas picture of my family.

10. Favourite Christmas Movie?
Honestly, I’m not that big into Christmas movies. I really enjoyed watching The Nativity Story recently.

11. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Some time in November I start thinking about it but usually don’t start until Black Friday and usually finish about a week before Christmas.

12. Favourite thing to eat at Christmas?
Egg nog. My aunt’s buckeyes.

13. Clear lights or coloured on the tree?
I usually like white but when I bought the pre-lit tree, it had half and half and I like it.

14. Favourite Christmas song(s)?
All I Want for Christmas Is You. That one always makes me sing along.

15. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Travel the week before Christmas. Home on Christmas.

16. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
No.

17. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Star.

18. Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?
Christmas Morning

19. Most annoying thing about this time of year?
How rude people can be.

20. Do you decorate your tree in any specific theme or colour?
I usually have some sort of color theme. This year is red and lime green.

21. What do you leave for Santa?
I’m really not that organized…

22. Least favourite holiday song?
Hm, can’t think of one.

23. Favourite ornament?
Actually posted about this…

24. Family tradition?
We do basically the same thing every year but not really any specific traditions.

25. Ever been to Midnight Mass or late-night Christmas Eve services?
No.

Food, shopping and a photo-op

December 20, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

That basically describes today. As per the norm around here, we got out of the house at lunch at went to eat at our favorite restaurant D’Atri’s to have the best cheese steak on earth.

After that, we ran around town doing some shopping. Part was in historic downtown (see pictures in the more section) and then Mom and Dad went home with the girls and dropped the rest of us off at the mall for some kid-free shopping. Wow. We walked in and I literally didn’t know what to do. I only had one present left to buy today and not a clue what to get so we literally browsed the entire mall. It actually wasn’t as great as I remembered. Except the Cinnabon part. That was still excellent. I did manage to get that last present and it feels GREAT to be done. Five days to spare too.

This evening was low-key. Mom made spaghetti here at the house and Mom and Dad went out shopping. Now we are watching Napoleon Dynamite if that says anything about how exciting our evening is.

Now if you like, Scott and I did a little mini photo shoot while the grandparents attended the children in the toy store and then joined us afterwards…click on More to see.

Potty Training Update

December 20, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I haven’t given an update on the potty training in a few weeks. Emma is completely and totally potty trained now! Hallelujah and thank you, Jesus. Seriously. She has gone #2 at all times at our house, at my mom’s and even at my uncle’s last night. She stays dry at night and hasn’t worn a pull-up since we started the whole thing back in November.

Lexi is doing well herself. Today was a big milestone. She went #2 in the potty! Of course she went again in her panties later but at least she (and I) knows she CAN do it. She has had a couple accidents at night but I’ve gotten in the habit of putting a towel under her at night since she refuses to wear a pull up. Which is fine. I’m happy to wash a towel instead of buying pull-ups.

I’m not really sure what else to do to help Lexi with the #2. I never had much luck with Emma obviously. If anyone has any tips, let me know!

Embarrassing Moment #312

December 20, 2007 by Amy 3 Comments

On my One Tree Hill Blog site, I wrote about one of the new characters played by Joe Manganiello.  I was excited to have found him on myspace and see that he was active.  I got some courage and left a comment after he added me as a friend to tell him we had written a post about him.  And guess what?  He messaged me back.  I was so excited to see the email notice that he had done that and yet what I read has now become Embarrassing Moment #312.  He says (basically)…love the blog and thanks but you spelled my name wrong.  Ugh!!!  Waahhhh!! How embarrassing!

I quickly fixed the error and profusely apologized in a message back to him.  I have yet to get a response.  I am QUITE excited I actually talked to him and didn’t have to cut through red tape to do so but wahhh….I misspelled his name.  You may know how important spelling and grammar is to me and then to screw up with this!  Geesh!

We’re Here!

December 19, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

After a long day, we made it to Maryland!

This morning was the girls Christmas program at school.  It was very cute but mostly uneventful except that Emma and her friend were getting a little too excited when their color was shown for them to ring their handbells and were called down by their teacher.  I was surprised Emma didn’t just cry on stage but she handled it ok.  The handbells were so sweet and I’ll have to talk to our music director about getting that at our church.

As soon as it was over we headed up the road and after a stop to my uncle’s we got here around 11 I think.  The girls fell asleep on the way from my uncle’s and somehow managed to stay asleep when we put them in bed.

Everyone else is up catching up on tv and Internet.  That’s it for now although I want to write about a quite embarrassing moment today.  Stay tuned.

Another crazy day

December 18, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Today was a bit crazy.  We will be headed out the door around 8:30 in the morning and won’t be back until Sunday night some time.  Today was all the last minute stuff…post office, laundry, snack shopping, last minute gift shopping, new van tires even.  We’ll be in Maryland for the weekend celebrating Christmas with all of my extended family.  I’m sure it will be a few crazy days up there too.

I’m actually looking forward to the morning though.  The kids have to be there at 9 but we don’t have to be there until 10.  I think we’re going to drop them off and spend the time until 10 at McDonald’s or Dunkin Donuts getting some breakfast.  We haven’t done that in months.  Lexi’s fever broke through the night last night so I think she’s good to go to school in the morning and I can’t wait to see them finally singing all their songs.  Emma will get to dress up as an angel since she is part of the 4 year old class.  I can’t believe this will be her last year there.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to no work for a week.  I took the entire day off tomorrow so I’m officially free for a week–well, I have the pager and taking my laptop but that’s the norm.  I’m guessing postings will be limited tomorrow unless I can manage to finagle my dad’s laptop with his air card away from him for awhile.  Seriously doubting that will happen.

Dear Writers,

December 18, 2007 by Amy 5 Comments

I’m not quite sure what the issue is, but I’m already missing new episodes of all my favorite shows.  Please, for the sake of all our sanity, enjoyment and addictions, hurry up and fix the problem.  Even if it’s just the writers for Desperate Housewives, House, Private Practice, Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and The Office, that should surely help me get through.

Thanks in advance,

TV-addicted Internet girl
