Dyson DC07

January 10, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Our vacuum cleaner finally gave up this weekend after 8 years and on my parents recommendation, went out to buy the Dyson which was on sale at Target. And from what I hear, that doesn’t happen often. So we got the basic model DC07. Things I like about it. The first thing I noticed that I really liked was the cord length. Way longer than our older model and I only had to plug it in one place in the center of our house and it could reach everywhere. Not saying TOO much for our little ranch but it made me happy. I also liked the fact that I could actually see all the crud I was vacuumming up. Felt like I was actually working. The vacuum was so light it felt like it could hardly be doing anything. So obviously a good thing is it seems to vacuum well. My rug in my living room looked extremely clean after I was done. And emptying the canister could not have been easier. No more nasty bags to change. But I do have a few complaints. The vacuum is pretty tall. We store the vacuum in our hall closet and while it of course fits, it’s just not going to be as easy to manuever in the closet when it’s in there like the other one. I think that sounds weird, but you’d just have to see our closet. I also didn’t like that when you vacuumed, it left 4 smaller “stripes” within the larger “stripe” so instead of pretty vacuum lines, you have like a ton of vacuum lines in your carpet after you are done. Maybe there is some setting I can change on it so it doesn’t do that, I don’t know. And my last complaint is it is really difficult to configure the thing to use the attachments. My parents were at my house last night and they said it is different than their older Dyson and much harder to do than theirs. Which I thought was odd since my is newer. And it is definitely not as easy as my old one. The up side to it is the wand and hose for the attachment is long and I don’t have to drag the vacuum along to use it. So all in all, I think we made the right decision and I’ll definitely be recommending it.

Busy

January 9, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So Scott is back on nights.  He worked last night and I got quite a bit accomplished.  I was able to play with the girls–hide and seek and such, clean and mop the play room, put up Lexi’s clothes and pay our bills.  All of those (except playing with the girls) are alll the things I hate to do so they feel like huge accomplishments.

I also managed to listen to another installment of my Beth Moore Living Beyond Yourself Bible Study.  I started this back in August or so and I’m STILL not done.  But it is SO good.  I want to do it with some group at church..maybe my Sunday School, maybe our girls youth bible study group, maybe do one for adult women.  I don’t know, but it’s so good, everyone should do it.  Anyone can do it online at www.lifeway.com/lby but I actually bought the DVDs awhile back with the intent of doing it with a group.  Hopefully I’ll figure out what that looks like.

I’m trying to get our church set up on Podcasts.  Seeing that I’m in-between computers and don’t have the right hardware, it’s quite difficult.  I’ve been having to go back and forth between the church and here and I really don’t have what I need yet to make it live.  I’m very anxious about it and we really need a good system.  We really need a DVD camcorder because when we captured the video from my digital 8 one, it was 7GB!!  That is huge and we will not be able to keep much backlog of the original files!  We will get it figured out though.  I can’t wait!

Today I have an appointment with my very rude dermatologist.  I don’t know why I continue to go to him except I’m too lazy to find a new one and plus he knows the history.  But gosh, he is SO rude.  I have a story every time I walk out of there.

Tonight I think we are going out to eat with my parents and sister.  The 3 of them have started doing Herbalife.  Mom has some customer that sells it.  Mom and Heather have already lost weight on it and they’ve only been doing it since Saturday.  Whatever works I guess.

OK, so our taxes aren’t as great as I thought.  But still looks like 30% more than last year so no complaints!

WhooHoo!  I’m a proud owner of SLVR.  eBay member came through for me and I received it on Friday.  No complaints except I can’t use my iTunes music for my ringtones.  Bummer.

New computer and cell phone

January 5, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

slvr.jpgLast weekend I took the plunge and bought something else off of ebay.  It is the new SLVR cell phone.  I promise the seller thought I was anal I was asking so many questions but it looks like it is the real deal and should be delivered to me today or tomorrow.

835gm.jpgAnd then last night I got the idea that I wanted to go ahead and get a new computer.  For a smaller upgrade and selling my computer, I only had to put about $200 so I went for it.  It supposedly was shipped today from CA.  So yay!

Holy Cow!

dollar.jpgYa’ll!!  I did our taxes last night.  It was at midnight and I don’t have all the exact numbers but I think I’m close and our return is almost TWICE what it was last year.  OH MY GOSH.  I actually could knock a couple bigger items off of my list.  I really hope I’m close on my number because that would be AWESOME!

Tax Time!

January 4, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

It’s January and guess what that means!! Tax time again!  If you’ve been reading for awhile, you know that I LOVE tax time.  Especially since we’ve had 2 kids because that means mula coming to us.  I started printing all of our stuff today and going through the checkbook to categorize everything.  I just downloaded all the federal and state forms I’ll need to do my taxes but not actually submit them.  Yes, I do my taxes myself to see how much we are getting but let a professional do them and submit them.  I just can’t stand that our companies wait until January 31 to mail our forms and then I have to wait until mid February to find out how much we are getting back.  If I sit down and do it tonight, I could know how much we are getting back and then we can start planning!  Last year we put up our fence and built the back deck.  The year before we put on our sunroom addition.  Those were definitely fantastic investments and have been greatly used.  This year I think we are leaning towards either a used car for me to take to work or paying down our van loan.  My current list of things I really want to do but would take several years worth of tax returns:

Hardwood floors in living room/kitchen/entry/playroom
Kitchen countertops
Refrigerator (and stove if I REALLY had a lot of money)
Curtains for my room
Curtains for my living room (if I could figure out what fabric I wanted)
Pay off our van
Get another car for us to use
Bedside table for Scott
Telescopic lens for my camera
New computer that will run Pinnacle including new graphics card with TV Tuner
DVD camcorder

I’m sure there’s more but that’s what comes to mind.  Just about 25K-30K would take care of that, no biggie right??

He loves me

January 2, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

I said last time something didn’t feel right.  And it didn’t.  And it hasn’t for awhile.  It’s taken me over a year to get through some stuff.  I’ve listened to several sermons on my iPod, at church this Sunday and read some stuff.  And Revelation 3:19 kind of sums it up.  God loves me and He wasn’t going to let me get away with the sins I was committing.  He has spent much of this year rebuking me.  It has been quite a struggle.  But this weekend I’ve gotten to the point that not only are my actions going to change but my heart and mind need to also.  So my prayer for this year is verse we used to repeat at my old church at the end of every service.

Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight. O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.
