I love love and reading about love

June 12, 2008 by Amy 6 Comments

I’ve been reading the Pioneer Woman for about a year now I guess.  She’s like one of those star bloggers that most of you probably already read.  I even had a coworker mention out of the blue that his wife reads her.  Anyway, I’ve seen her write about how her and her husband got together..a string of posts called Black Heels to Tractor Wheels but I was waiting until it was “done” (not sure when she’s planning to stop the story) to read it but when she posted a new chapter today, my curiosity go the best of me.

I started reading some time this evening after work until Scott wanted to run some errands.  And then I found myself wandering through the aisles of Lowe’s tonight, holding Scott’s arm so I knew where to walk with my eyes glued to my iPhone screen.   And then I found myself reading it while I watched the kids play in Chick fil A.  And then I found myself reading it while I sat with the kids watching TV.  And then I found myself at my computer screen reading it tonight.  I could. not. quit reading it.  I have no idea how long it might be printed out but it’s 35 posts and quite a page-turner post-turner? spectacular story.  Please, if you love a good love story, go read it.  The best part is it’s real and you can read about them years later on her blog.  It’s ten times better reading her blog now that I’ve read Black Heels to Tractor Wheels.  So go forth and read!

Settlement Day

June 12, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

Today Scott went to finalize his settlement from breaking his collarbone at work almost two years ago (has it been that long?). We already have the entire thing spent I think. We’ll pay off the short note from the truck Scott just bought, pay off the van, tithe and I think that covers it. Back in January we had a list of things from last year we wanted to pay for and now we have a few more marked off:

Hardwood floors in living room/kitchen/entry/playroom
Kitchen countertops
Refrigerator (and stove if I REALLY had a lot of money)
Curtains for my room
Curtains for my living room (if I could figure out what fabric I wanted)

Pay off our van
Get another car for us to use
Bedside table for Scott
Telescopic lens for my camera
New computer that will run Pinnacle including new graphics card with TV Tuner – off the list
DVD camcorder

A few more things I’d like to add:

Water softener
New bedroom suite/bed for the girls

With the money coming in from my OTH site, the IRS check, hopefully selling the Land Rover soon and so forth, our savings account is becoming quite healthy and I’m SO happy about that…not to mention the fact we are going to have NO car payment.  Whoo Hoo!

SYTYCD Top 20

June 12, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

I was very impressed with last night’s dancing. They really have stepped it up this year. Every single one of them is amazing and it’s really bad I almost want some of them to dance for their life just so I can see them do their thang.

Rayven & Jamie (hip hop) – I thought they both did well but I agreed with what I think Dan said..it was sort of the same the whole time. But what was with pulling his pants down? My girls looked at me like Mom!!! I’m really starting to wonder if I should let them watch the show. Anyway, the pair of them seemed EXTREMELY excited and confident about their performance. That alone sort of turned me off.

Susie and Marquis (smooth waltz) – Very nice. Marquis was very smooth and graceful. I just can’t get into Susie even though I want to.

Kortni and Matt (jazz) – Not particularly memorable but I felt like they performed this well. Kortni in particular.

Chelsea and Thayne’s cha cha – I thought this was great.  Chelsea was barely containable and boy, she could move those hips.  Same for Thayne.  Turns out it’s a bit unforgettable though as I couldn’t remember it until I saw a picture of Chelsea in her purple outfit.

Chelsie and Mark (Mia Michaels’ contemporary) Mia Michaels has a very strange head. That being said, it was beautifully performed. I think Mark is oddly unique and was perfect for this.

Kherington and Twitch Twitchington (Broadway) – I love, love, loved this.  I just love Twitch though.  I hope he goes to the finals.

Comfort and Chris (jive) – Comfort surprised me.  She’s a lot different than she seemed in earlier shows.  Yes, she’s confident but I just think she’s silly–in a good way.  She’s very entertaining and has the dancing to back it up.

Katee and Joshua (hip hop) – I love Joshua.  I’m not in love with Katee but I love Joshua.  He’s such a cutie pie and when he dances, every move just seems so natural, unrehearsed and flawless.  I hope he goes far.

Jessica and Will (tango) – I really like Will but I really did not like this.

Courtney and Gev (disco) – I do not like Disco and I did not like this performance.  That being said, I think Courtney will do well with other genres.

I think Courtney and Gev, Kortni and Matt and Jessica and Will are in trouble

Twitchington, Chelsea and Mark and Katee and Joshua were my favorites.

Random Blog Notes

June 11, 2008 by Amy 2 Comments

I make notes on my iPhone about posts I want to do. But sometimes they’re too cryptic to understand. Like this one:

Line into vending machine
Today the day we get eaten alive

I’d really like to know what wisdom I was going to share with that one. Are we surprised that one was written at 12:45am?

Plurk

June 11, 2008 by Amy 2 Comments

*Updated with a new link for me.
So I joined the “new Twitter” today. It’s Plurk.com. Try it out with me so I can see how it works. It’s a bit different than Twitter with this timeline thing and lets you do more of how you are feeling than just what you’re doing. Sort of reminds me of the update thing on Myspace. I don’t know, find me here. And if you’re still not on Twitter and want to check it out, find me there.

Pros and Cons of a Pool

June 10, 2008 by Amy 3 Comments

If you haven’t noticed, with the extreme heat in the area, we’ve been spending a lot of time in the pool since it opened this weekend.  You may be wishing you had one at your disposal as well but there are some disadvantages.  I’d say right now #1 on the Pros list beats all the others but it doesn’t come without work and lots of it!

Pros:

  1. There’s a pool in your backyard
  2. It’s a go-to entertainment tool for parties
  3. It keeps the kids busy during the summer
  4. Your kids are familiar with the pool/water
  5. You get a tan
  6. People come visit you

Cons:

  1. There’s a pool in your backyard
  2. You have to build a deck around the pool
  3. You have to buy furniture for on the deck
  4. You have to stain the deck
  5. You have to buy pool toys/floaties/goggles and usually every year
  6. You have to buy containers to store the pool toys/floaties in
  7. You have to go to the pool store fifty bagillion times
  8. You have spend fifty bagillion dollars at the pool store
  9. You get burned
  10. You have to have a lot of food on hand
  11. You have to wash lots of towels
  12. The towels take too much room in your hall closet
  13. Insurance goes up
  14. Stress level is higher with the kid/water combination
  15. You have to scoop algae/leaves/bugs/hair/unnamed things out of the pool, sometimes with your hands
  16. You have to vacuum the pool
  17. You have to cover the pool (unless it’s 101 outside and it’s hot enough)
  18. You have to clean your floor more often because everyone tracks in grass/dirt from walking in

So yeah, I think that’s my official complaint list on the pool.  But right now, I wouldn’t give it up!

Bachelorette

June 9, 2008 by Amy 5 Comments

I haven’t posted much on this show this season but WOW tonight’s 2 on 1 date was a shocker!  Fred was such a sweetie.  As she was walking him out I was like tell him you change your mind!!!   Poor guy.  I love his little accent and he’s so open and honest and just a cutie.  Poor DeAnna too.  I think it was so hard for her because she was in his position with Brad and maybe she was feeling that pain again.

And while we’re on it…I definitely think the frontrunners are Graham, Jeremy and Jesse.  Well, and Jason too.  I can see her really settling down with him.  He was so sweet with her when she got home.  I think Jeremy is like the “right guy” to pick.  Graham is the physical connection one.  Jesse is the fun one/feels like herself.  And Jason is the settle down with kind of guy.  I’m not sure which direction she’ll go.  But I do have a lot of respect for her for letting both guys go when she knew she couldn’t be with either of them.

What was up with Graham being last to be picked though??  Just trying to send a message or really down to the wire on him with the way he’s been acting?

Because basically we’ve stayed in the pool this weekend…

Emma’s first day without swimmies on in the pool! She’s tall enough to reach the bottom now.
