Date Night at The Melting Pot

September 5, 2008 by Amy 6 Comments

We had an amazing time last night.  The 6 of us had never gone out all together before and while I had absolutely no doubts we would have a good time, we certainly did.  The food was amazing and we had such a good time going from serious spiritual conversations all the way to silly ones.  But mostly silly ones.

But the entire experience was not cheap and it was not quick.  We didn’t get home until almost 10:30.  But I have to tell you about what we ate.  It’s a four course meal.  First you have a cheese appetizer.

We had the cheddar dip and the spinach and artichoke dip.  You can see we had fruit, veggies, bread and chips to dip in it.  All were amazing.

Next up were salads.  We each got to pick our own.  I had their California salad which had Gorgonzola cheese, walnuts and a raspberry vinaigrette.

Next was the main course.  Each couple has a tray of meat.  You just cook each piece of meat for about two minutes.  It usually worked out well if you just let two cook while you ate the first two.  I thought there would be a lot of waiting but there wasn’t.  And it ALL tasted fantastic.  We had jerk chicken, vanilla rum chicken, squash ravioli, sirloin, shrimp and mahi mahi.  I think my favorite was actually the shrimp.  But I’ve been in a seafood mood lately so who knows.

Next up was my favorite..the dessert.  I have to show you this picture because the name of the chocolate Flaming Turtle gets its name honest.  We also had white chocolate.

Here you can see what we had to dip in them.  It included strawberries, bananas, rice krispy pieces, brownie, pound cake, cheesecake and marshmallows

Our favorites were the strawberries in white chocolate, the rice krispy pieces in the flaming turtle and the brownies in either.  I know I was hesitant to go but I will go in a heartbeat again.  But really, mainly for these guys who we had a great time with…

Oh and one more thing.  My friend Melissa ended up with there for her and her husband’s anniversary so we FINALLY got to see each other again after several months.  Small world!

Lexi-ism “The Barn”

September 4, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

So we’re driving home from my dermatologist appointment today and I have to go by the pharmacy on the way home.  Lexi is chatting up a storm and then…

Lexi: Mommy, after you get home from the barn can I color?

Me (very confused): The barn? I’m not going to a barn. (Trust me, I don’t go to barns)

Lexi: But, Mommy, you said you were going to the FARM!

*what? I don’t go to barns OR farms*

Me (laughing): No, honey, I said the pharmacy.

Confession

September 4, 2008 by Amy 4 Comments

There’s something so releasing about confession. I’m sure it’s no coincidence that the same action that starts our journey as a Christian (see ABC’s of becoming a Christian) is the same one that we have to perform over and over throughout our journey. And each time it’s as if the old passes away and the new begins…over and over.

I had to confess something to Scott today. The Holy Spirit wouldn’t let me get away with NOT confessing it. I tried to only confess it to God but I had wronged Scott even though he didn’t know it and I wasn’t getting away with it. I was stressed. My blood pressure was up. My stomach didn’t feel well. I wasn’t connecting with him like I should have. Unconfessed sin does that to a person.

I sat Scott down this morning after the kids were all to school and confessed.  What it was doesn’t matter but the release of it is the same each time.  It’s as if the weight of the world comes off your shoulders and you can breathe again.  And the wonderful thing about having a Christian husband is just like God…they listen, they forgive, you learn and you both move on.

Proverbs 28:13 He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.

Date Night

September 4, 2008 by Amy 6 Comments

Tonight is going to be date night!  We’re going to a fondue place called The Melting Pot.  We’ve never been but everyone (except Mom and Dad) rave about it so I hope it’s good.  We’re going with two couples from church one of which we don’t get to hang out with as often as we like so I think it’s going to be a fantastic time together.  Mom agreed to watch the girls and get them to bed for school in the morning.  If you’ve been to this place or one like it, what do you recommend?

So nevermind on that…

September 3, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Turns out Hanna isn’t as bad as they thought and Scott’s duty at the coast got canceled (for now anyway)!  Hoorah!

And THEN, I found out the pageant director is willing to rent one of her dresses for sale for only $20!! The dress is selling for $800!!  So all we have to do is go try it on tonight and we’re set for the pageant this weekend.

So there.  My week just got a lot less stressful.

Mattress Switcharoo – The girls’ room

September 3, 2008 by Amy 7 Comments

I promised pictures of the girls room since their bed got upgraded.  The first picture is the “before”.  We moved the dresser to where the bed is and now have the Queen size bed where the dresser was.  We need to get some pictures on the wall but I’m loving the new bedding…and the girls do too!

The Gypsy Princess

September 3, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

No disrespect to gypsies in the least…Emma always loved dressing up but Lexi?  She doesn’t dress up. She lives and breathes Princess dresses, rings, necklaces and bracelets.  We always say she’s the accessory queen.  You can’t even see the 3 foot long streams of ribbon attached to the back of that head piece.  Lexi is known to wear a necklace and two or three of those huge Princess rings with her regular clothes.  Mom just bought her a purse and she carries it to stores as if she actually needs it.  I’m just thinking she could fit the part of Disney’s Esmeralda

My Favorite Things Swap..what she WON’T be getting

September 2, 2008 by Amy 4 Comments

I found out Laura is my swap partner for the Favorite Things Swap.  We have less than 3 weeks to get our gifts to each other.  I’m actually really excited because not only do I get to shop for things *I* like, I get a big box of WRAPPED goodies in a box in return.  Ohh, I can not wait.  And who said gifts weren’t my love language??

But Laura and I have decided on a cap for the amount of cash we’re going to spend so alas, most of my favorite, favoritist (new word, donchaknow?) things won’t be bought for her.  So if I were Oprah and had a gazillion dollars to hand oh, a few hundred people my Top 5 Favorite Things right now (that would easily fit in a box):

#5 My entire collection of One Tree Hill DVDs (only 3 of 5 shown here)

#4 Ann Taylor Pants in Black.  In her size of course.  Because they fit like a glove.

#3 Flip Video

#2 Digital Canon SLR

And of course #1 iPhone

I have a few more favorite things but they are being sent to Laura!  Stay tuned for what goes in her box!

So what say you?  Good choices?  What would be your favoritist-things-you-can’t-afford-to-buy-anyone-else?
