American Idol Week 1 Night 2

January 14, 2009 by Amy 2 Comments

Here’s a few memorable ones

Kasey with the white/purple dress- I like her look and her voice.  She is American Idol material

Von – I had watched some clips of him beforehand from spoilers.  He has a good voice.  Not a great audition compared to the videos I had seen and I think he knew it.

Jason Castro!  Love that boy!  And love him with his brother.

Michael Castro – not as good as his brother if you ask me.  but not bad.

Matt Breitzke (the welder)- the girls liked him but i wasn’t too impressed

Jessica Furney with the 93 yo gm – i liked her a lot. she has a good story, she’s cute and she sings well

India – I liked her a lot.  I wanted her to keep rapping.  It was rough but I think she could do something.

Jamar- eh.  just off and boring.

Danny, Jamar’s best friend – oh gosh, i love him.  great look, great story, great voice.  oh, he’s one of my favorites so far.  and i just typed that about 3 notes in to his audition.  glad to hear the judges agree.  just for the record, i cried when he dedicated it to his wife.

Anoop – He’s kind of geeky but i think he has a good voice.  Go geeks!

Asa the band director – what a cutie! not sure about his range but it was decent.  he’ll definitely look good on the AI stage.

Dennis – he shouldn’t have gotten through but he had a lot of personality.

Lil Rounds – great, big voice, great story.  She is so cute with her husband.

Danny was by far my all around favorite of the night.

Favorite Mary Kay Products

January 14, 2009 by Amy 4 Comments

Last night I held a Mary Kay party.  Sort of kind of a party in that only 2 other guests showed up.  Thanks, Dani and Jill!  But yes a party because we had a great time having a little makeover and ending the party by watching some of American Idol together.  And I was VERY happy to figure out at the end of the night I had earned free products!  All around good deal!

I know Mary Kay has been around forever and a day and I really can’t count the number of Mary Kay parties I’ve attended but if you ever find yourself at a party and don’t know what to get or are willing to try some great stuff…here ya go.

000430

Microdermabrasion.  I actually don’t own this set yet but I plan on it.  I’ve had it done twice by a salon and still have one more session to go to.  I’ve tried it 2 or 3 times during demonstrations and am always happy with the results.  And really?  The cost is embarrassingly lower than the salon.

014082

Satin Hands. I dare you to try it and not see a difference.  Crazy good stuff.

016960

Eye Primer. This stuff I’ve had for years.  You know when you’ve had eyeshadow on for awhile and you get that ugly crease in your eyelid?  Well, no more!  Just put a small dab of this on it and it ain’t goin’ nowhere!

Have fun!

American Idol Week 1

January 14, 2009 by Amy 4 Comments

  • I like “that new judge”. I love that no one else knew her name.  And I love how Simon refuses to pronounce Cara with an American accent.  It makes it sound like he doesn’t know her name.
  • I actually disagreed with a few of those people.  Like the pink hair girl.  Didn’t like her.  The volunteer girl was really good.  I don’t think the Peppy girl towards the end should have gotten through either.
  • Bikini girl was better than I thought.  Simon’s face when she walked into the room was priceless.  Ryan’s reaction when she kissed him was great.  Surprised she made it through though.
  • I loved Alex Wagner the Clay Aiken-esque kid.  I got his humor and thought he had a good voice.
  • Loved Deanna Brown – girl without a family.  Original and sweet.
  • The last guy Scott McIntyre almost had me in tears.  And I’m sure that was the point.  I really hope he does well and can’t wait to see him playing as well.  But that high five Ryan tried to give him?  Way to go, Ryan, way to go.  You make AI worth watching.

DQ, Here We Come

January 13, 2009 by Amy 4 Comments

*warning – lots of potty training talk*

OK, I really thought we were over this.  Potty training has got to be a torture device in some country.  Last year Lexi was doing so well.  Somewhere in the past few months she regressed.  I don’t remember how or when it happened but suddenly she wasn’t going #2 in the potty anymore.  At the same time, while Emma WAS going in the potty, she was still having issues where it would get so big, it was scary.  All of this caused more stress than I care to admit.    I finally started regularly giving them Myralax again and while it helped Emma, it resulted in some HUGE messes here at home and out and about with Lexi.  I WILL spare you the details of that ( I DO have pictures..it’s that bad).

I had to figure out something to get Lexi to go in the potty.  I actually had forgotten about Chuck E Cheese that had worked last year and when Lexi told me randomly she wanted a “brown and white shandwish” (ice cream sandwich) from DQ, I told her if she went in the potty, she could go.  No dice.  In fact, after she had gone in her pants again, she said “Oh well, at least I have gum.”

Then Emma had done so well, I told Emma I was going to take her and Lexi could stay home.  Well, wouldn’t you know THAT was enough incentive and she went within the hour I think.

So last night Lexi got her brown and white shandwish and boy, did I feel like I deserved that cookie dough Blizzard.  Yum.  So TODAY Lexi says she wants a banana slit (banana split) and then asks what it looks like.  She just heard Emma say it yesterday.  But she’s gone twice today already.

And I’m fully prepared to buy stock in DQ…because you know she’s really twisting my arm to go to DQ every night until we’re in the clear.

And no, I’m not seriously prepared to go every night for any stretch of time.  Well.  Maybe.

Twitter Daily Posts

January 13, 2009 by Amy Leave a Comment

So I posted yesterday I was getting rid of the daily Twitter posts and then realize some people actually like it.  But I know others don’t.  And the thing is, I could care less about them because I wrote every single one and don’t care to read it again.  BUT if it is helping you keep up with me, I’m fine with it and vote Yes. If it’s highly annoying and you’re going to quit reading if I keep posting these stupid Twitter posts, please vote No. If you don’t care and/or you’re just as indecisive as me vote the 3rd option 🙂

Lexi-ism – Buy Me That

January 12, 2009 by Amy 3 Comments

Scott and I started this horrible habit for the girls to tell us they want something in the stores for their birthday and/or Christmas.  It was born out of them asking for stuff in the store and I would say maybe for your birthday.  Well, birthdays and Christmas have passed and now they still go down the aisle and say “Buy this for my birthday”.

I took the girls to Wal-Mart to buy a birthday gift for a party Emma went to on Saturday and every other thing on the aisle was “Mommy, buy me this for my birthday.”

I finally said, “Stop saying ‘Mommy, buy this’.  Just tell me you like it.”

Emma dutifully says, “Mommy, I like this..and this…and this.”

Lexi points to something across the aisle and says, “Mommy, tell Daddy I want him to buy me this for my birthday.”

Argh!

Recap of Winter Jam 2009 – Charlotte

January 12, 2009 by Amy 3 Comments

We were able to figure out the kids being juggled between our parents (thanks, ya’ll!) and were happy to be off at 4 yesterday for the concert.  Toby Mac was the headline artist and I’ve been a fan of his since the early 90s during his DC Talk days.  I thought I’d never seen him but I remembered going to a concert at a church in Charlotte sometime when I was in high school I think.  I definitely hadn’t seen him since he went solo.

By the time we got there, the doors were already open although we heard a few of our college students had been there since 1:30 and had 4th row seats.  The youth group had to go to the upper deck to sit together.  Scott and I and another couple in the youth group moved to be more centered on the stage.  A few minutes in our seats, and the college students text us and say they have 4 open spots.  Yippee!

The only downside was that we only had our zoom lens assuming we’d be far away so all of our pictures are REALLY close up.  From 4th row, I couldn’t get any wide shots at all.  No complaining…just sayin.

So here’s the line-up.

Pure NRG.  These kiddos were helping to promote PreciousGirlsClub.com, a web site for girls…Emma was already signed up there.  Their performance was….well organized yet….peppy.  I didn’t even upload a picture of them I just realized.

Stephanie Smith.  She was cute as a button (see tutu) and definitely has a big voice.  She sang a prayer type song mid-way through the concert and it was amazing. We were still up in the upper deck at this point and I took a picture from the megatron thingy.

Francesca Battistelli. I didn’t get to hear her because I went and ate. Friggin’ $17 for chicken, small fries and a drink. Rip-off. I did hear a lot how pretty she was when I got back. Sorry, that’s all I got. LOL

NewSong sang some great worship songs. I’ve seen them several times in concert. I still love that Nate Sallie is singing with them. I love him! They also sang Arise, My Love and man, that song gets you every time.

Hawk Nelson came out and I have seen them a time or two before as well. Every Little Thing is still my favorite of theirs. They are really fun on stage.

Brandon Heath came out and WOW I was really impressed with him. If you listen to Christian music you might recognize a few of his songs..”I’m Not Who I Was” and “Give Me Your Eyes”. They played a video during that one and it was very thought-provoking.

Finally Toby Mac and his band Diverse City came out and WOW. They did not stop from beginning to end. I may as well and get this out of the way and say Toby looked OLD. And if not old, VERY tired. I wanted to tell him to drink some water and go to bed. See?

Turns out he’s 44. Man, does that make ME feel old?! But he’s still cute as a button when he smiles.

The show was a ton of fun.

And Toby ended it well by jumping it to the crowd at the end. Scott caught him mid air.

Overall a very good concert.  Toby Mac was definitely the star of the show and made the night.

I’ve uploaded all my videos although I haven’t labeled them all.

If you’d like to see all the (very upclose) pictures we took, have at it.
