Snippets from the Gas Station

April 6, 2008 by Amy 2 Comments

Emma: What’s the name of this gas station?

Me: Texaco

Emma: Wow, that rhymes with Mexico.

Me (stunned because I don’t think I’ve ever thought of that): Yes, you’re right.

——————————————————

Emma (looking at the lady next to us who had curly blond hair): Is that Brooke?

Me (confused.  the first thing that came to my mind is Brooke from One Tree Hill but she has brown hair): Brooke who??

Emma: Brooke.  From American Idol.

Me: Oh.  no.

Mommying is hard

April 5, 2008 by Amy 4 Comments

This evening has been rough.  The girls came home completely sugared up and that means INSANE.  I have stuck to my guns on the no sugar this week..usually only one thing out of the day they have gotten.  So today when they got filled up with Sprite, tea and jelly beans they could barely contain themselves.  Which meant I could barely contain myself.  I think a few times you might have seen steam coming out of my ears.  I tried to take them to the grocery store and Lexi wouldn’t get in the cart so she was hanging off the side and then when she wanted down, she ran 3 aisles away from me.  Then when we got to the check-out she knocked some displays over.  Oh, and forgot to mention the display she knocked over in the bacon.  I was about to lose my mind just after those 5 little minutes.  And then they asked for a cookie!  I think not!

When we get home they don’t eat well and won’t listen.  I put them to bed early partly because we have church and partly because I just couldn’t take it anymore.  I tell Lexi if they continue to play in bed like they usually do, she’s going to have to sleep in her room/playroom in a sleeping bag.  She’s so wild in bed I follow through with it.  They both calm down and I let Lexi back with Emma and they finally go to sleep after a few trips out to the kitchen to see me and/or get a tissue.

And then all the mommy guilt hits me.  I wasn’t patient enough, I wasn’t strict enough, I was too strict, how could I not enjoy my children, why was I spending time making casserole for Sunday School when I didn’t even cook for my family all day, would I be a bad mother if I insisted no one give them sugar?  Round and round I’ve gone all evening.   And it’s just, I don’t know.  This mommying thing is hard, ya’ll.

Check-up

April 2, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

The girls had their 3 and 5 year old check-up today.  The girls were quite entertaining to the dr.  Not shy at all.  Lexi says she wants to be 5 like Emma when she grows up.  Emma wants to be a dentist.  Emma is 90% in height and 50% in weight.  Lexi is 90% in height and 75% in weight.  Both are developing fine.  He seems to agree with me that Lexi’s #2 potty issues are because of Emma’s issues and now that Emma is having no issues, Lexi might warm up to the whole idea in the next 6 months.

One fun thing from today was peeing in the cup for the first time.  We tried when we first got there and neither could do it.  But they both had to go at the end and I really wanted Lexi’s sugar checked.  So I wised up the second time and didn’t put the cup anywhere near them until they started going and then caught it midstream.  Wow, this topic is GREAT to blog about.  I had to do some major handwashing at the end but they both were pretty excited about it after that.  Whatever tests they did came back fine.  I double-checked they checked Lexi’s sugar and it was fine.

You wanna take this outside?

March 27, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

This is a funny Lexi story.  Or at least it was to me because I really was blind-sided.  Scott and I belly laughed until I was crying today.  So it may not be funny but I have to get it down on paper.

I’m sitting on our glider working with my laptop and Lexi walks up to me with both of her arms outstretched, palms down and trying to drop something in my lap, or so I thought, and said, “You want some?”

Me (very seriously) : Want some of what?

Lexi (a little aggravated): It’s a beat-up thing!

Apparently Scott tried to get her to show some fists at me and say “You want some of this?”   Can you just imagine Scott in the background falling over on the couch laughing when she said “It’s a beat-up thing?”

Love Note #1

March 24, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Emma has officially received her first love note. It only took five short years of life. Here’s the story on this.

A few days ago D called me and said he was talking with a boy at Emma’s school and he says, “I got big news. I finally have a girlfriend.” They ask who it is and then figure out it’s my Emma and then he says, “I like Emma. She’s so funny.” Apparently they got a big kick out of him talking about her.

Well, last night I found a note folded up on her desk and read it while Emma was going to the bathroom before bed last night. Emma came in and I think she muttered something about her not wanting me to see it. I asked her if it was from Chandler since it clearly has his name on it but she says no, it’s from Brandon(name changed). He gave it to me on the playground. We kept going in circles about why it would have Chandler’s name on it but I finally gave up.

Chandler’s mother works as the music teacher at the school and I asked her about it when she was putting the kids in the car today and she says, No, it was definitely from Chandler. She asked the teacher to put it in Emma’s bag.

So there we have it. I have no idea where Emma is getting her story because it is really, really not like Emma to make something like that up. She must be confused about something else. Nevertheless, here’s the note:

Randomness

March 23, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

As I thought this weekend flew by. Here are a few points of interest:

  1. Amen to my sister’s last post about my aunt and uncle’s marriage. It was fabulous news today. I give all the glory to God…we’ve all been praying for a miracle and it happened. Great news to receive on Easter…one more reason to praise Him today!
  2. My grandfather had another heart attack last night. Please pray for him as they will go in at 7am tomorrow.
  3. Still no hardwoods. The big orange box will be getting a call in the morning. Not very happy. At. all.
  4. I have finally officially watched The Godfather in full. I thought it was a great movie. And you may not believe it, but I had no clue that was Al Pacino, Robert Redford OR Diane Keaton the first time through. I watched it a second time with Scott tonight.
  5. Our choir special was awesome this morning. If nothing else, I know the choir was moved. Our closing song was Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone).
  6. After stuffing myself with ham, candy and more candy, I may have to look into my own weight loss plan.
  7. The newspaper article about OTH will definitely be in this week’s paper, probably available Tuesday.
  8. This is my last week in my read the Bible in 90 Days program.  Currently I’m a day ahead and the plan is technically for 88 days so I’m hoping to finish a little early.  I’m so very glad I did it.
  9. And most importantly, Emma told me today that she asked Jesus into her heart!!!  We were talking about the real meaning of Easter and she said she knew it all and Jesus wasn’t in the tomb and he lives in our hearts.  I said Yes, if you ask Him.  She said I already did.  I was shocked and she didn’t seem too open to answer questions so I let a few minutes go by and asked her more and she said she had not done it at school or church, that she had done it a one night while we were saying our bedtime prayers.  She said she did it “a long time ago”.  I have no idea what she may understand at this point but I do know it starts with childlike faith and she can build on what she knows.  Hallelujah, thank you, Jesus!

This has been a great Easter weekend, I hope yours has been too!!

Why I love

March 20, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

This whole conversation was said in whispers like a secret

Emma: You know why I love S?

Amy: Why?

Emma: Because she comes to play with me.

You know why I love Daddy?

Amy: Why?

Emma: Because he’s my daddy.

You know why I love you?

Amy: Why?

Emma: Because you’re my mommy.

You know why I love Jesus?

Because he died on the cross for us.
