Eek!  Can you tell I got a new lens for Mother’s Day?  Between that and finishing up ShootFlyShoot’s Photography 102 class last week, I’m really excited about how these photos are looking.  And not me, pretty much everything but me—the lighting, the color, the background, the crispness.  I can’t recommend the guys at ShootFlyShoot enough. I might just have to do a full post on it–let me know if you want to hear more!

And finally, I had to include another behind the scenes photo of Scott helping me get the lighting right.  He totally soaked up all the attention you guys gave him last week.  I call this his Trooper stance.

Y’all, I missed connecting with everyone last week for WIWW!  I was so busy promoting the bundle, I took the week off but so glad to be back!

It’s been chilly and rainy here so I was back in jeans for much of the week.

OK and these next photos crack me up so much I just HAD to share (with permission).  It was raining outside this weekend so we had to take my picture indoors. We have terrible lighting in our house so I asked Scott to stand in our room to see if he would stand in while I messed with the camera settings.  These have horrible lighting and I didn’t even try to edit them but the pictures are hilarious.

Oh my, he cracks me up.

Now, here’s the picture he took.

I’m still astounded how pretty fungus can be.

Stitch Fix #4

May 2, 2013 by Amy 3 Comments

IMG_6254

Yeehaw!  I still LOVE to get my fixes.  Seriously, it makes my day to see that cardboard box with the mint green tape on my porch.  Easily pleased?  Perhaps.

My latest Stitch Fix contained several contenders but I ended up keeping the shirt featured in the image above.

You probably know I love black and white, I love print, I love birds, I love that it’s not too tight, I love the v-neck, I love the cropped sleeves.  Basically, that shirt was perfect for me.

Here are the other 4 items I sent back:

stitchfix4o

A few comments about the other items:

  • The striped shirt was cute.  I wish you could see the details in the shoulders. But, it was a little too tight in the waist and I wasn’t sure I could wear it and not feel like it was July 4th.
  • The cardigan was just not my style. Older and more classic than I like.
  • The 3rd hi-lo sleeveless stop was just not my colors and it had a tie in the front I wasn’t fond of.
  • The coral color was gorgeous but a tad longer than I liked and it was silk so a little too high maintenance.

If you love fashion or even if it’s a struggle—especially if it’s a struggle–the Ultimate eBook bundle includes several fashion-related books.  I hope if you bought the bundle you’re checking out all these awesome books.  Here are a couple:

fashion2

Frumps to Pumps by Sarah Mae @ SaraMae.com ($4.99)

Sarah Mae gives you the reason to get dressed every day and helps you with baby steps.

The No Brainer Wardrobe by Hayley @ The No Brainer Wardrobe ($7.99)

Hayley gives you practical tools to make getting dressed easy.  My favorite part is where she carries her iPhone into a thrift store to put together an outfit from an inspirational outfit on Pinterest.  That is so far beyond my abilities but I’m excited to try.

So, two things: sign up for Stitch Fix if you want to give it a whirl and be sure to buy the eBook bundle—only available for 2 more days!  Also, you DID share about the bundle even if you aren’t going to buy it and entered to win the Kindle Fire, right??

What I’m Into – April 2013

April 25, 2013 by Amy 17 Comments

On the Internet

Coffitivity

coffitivity

Coffitivity is a web site that plays coffee shop background noise.  They say it helps boost creativity while you work.

I have no idea if it really boosts any creativity but I’m at home working often and find that it’s super helpful to have some noise, but nothing I have to pay close attention to.  With music, I’m paying too much attention to the lyrics. Although the site does allow you to add in some music if you want.

Pocket

PKTBlog_Graphics_0000_Lineup

Pocket is my absolute new favorite tool online.  I come across SO MANY links to read on Twitter but usually don’t have time to read them. I just click a little button in my tool bar and Pocket puts the link in a list to read later.

Pocket has a great iPad app and I tend to read through my list at the end of the day while I’m lying with the kids at night when they read.

You should totally “pocket” this article for later if you don’t have time to digest it all now.

On TV

Duck Dynasty

dd

I’d been hearing about Duck Dynasty for months and months but without satellite, we’ve been missing out on watching.  I couldn’t imagine that we’d get a lot of enjoyment from a show about a group of self-professed redneck duck hunters but I was really wrong.

We borrowed the first two seasons on DVD and got totally and completely hooked, staying up late every night of Spring Break to watch episode after episode all together.  I wish you could see Scott cackle at Uncle Si.  Jase is my favorite and the girls have a crush on John Luke.

We just realized we could have been watching it online and have watched much of Season 3, much to our disappointment.  It’s been forced and bland.  But still, Si still seems to pull through with some sort of shenanigan every episode and makes it worth the 30 minutes.

In My Kitchen

Chocolate covered espresso beans

IMG_6128

Espresso beans by themselves? Grody.  Chocolate covered espresso beans?  Heavenly.

Love having these to snack on in the afternoon.  They’re not cheap though so wait for a sale.

In My Closet

Neutral Sandals

sandals

I picked these sandals up for $14 with free shipping from a Loft sale a few weeks ago.  I was ecstatic when they were a perfect fit.

If you haven’t noticed in my What I Wore Wednesday posts, I’ve been wearing the hound out of them this month—capris, jeans, dresses—they go with anything.

Striped Maxi

maxi

I’ve mentioned it in my What I Wore Wednesday posts but I adore my striped maxi.  I can wear it so many ways and I plan to keep experimenting through the summer.

In My Hands

Crocheting

crochet

I knocked off an item from my Growth Plan and have been crocheting this month!

My friend Becky met me at Starbucks a few weeks ago and taught me the basics.  I’ve been practicing and finished the roll? spool? bundle? of yarn she gave me.  It turned out like a very wonky doll blanket.  The sides have more waves than a pageant winner in a parade.  I’m horrible at it so far but I do like it.

Bella

2013-04-24

OK, you haven’t been reading if you don’t know the biggest new thing I’ve been into this month is our new puppy Bella.   She’s a terrible amount of work but oh so fun-loving and sweet and worth it.

What I Wore Wednesday 04.03.2013

April 3, 2013 by Amy 10 Comments

It’s Wednesday!  I share my outfits from the week with The Pleated Poppy’s What I Wore Wednesday.

I pair my outfits with inspirational photos.  Read more about that here.

NOTE: Pinterest has updated all of their embed code and I don’t have as much control over how the pins are displayed as I previously did. I wish I could make the pictures bigger and get rid of the footers and buttons on each one but I can’t. Apologies! Hopefully Pinterest will get some feedback soon from bloggers and make some updates!

IMG_4995

IMG_4998

Here’s another work from home day.  I went out on a limb with this color combo but was happy to find it in a bracelet I already owned.

IMG_5004

IMG_5023

I wore this outfit out shopping for Easter dresses on Saturday.  My boots are great when we’re walking a lot and the skinnies and shirt couldn’t be more comfortable.

IMG_5148

I wore my Easter dress most of the day Sunday but never got a great pictures of it.  That’s ok though, because if you read Monday’s post, you’ll know why I like this picture so much.

IMG_5231

Squee!  I finally got the maxi I wanted at TJ Maxx this weekend.  You might remember I almost kept a striped maxi in my first Stitch Fix but couldn’t pull the trigger.  I’m glad I didn’t.  I got this one I like more for a 3rd of the cost.  I wore this working from home and then out to Chuck E. Cheese with the family.

Clearly with all the plants I picked this week, I am READY for Spring and Summer! And seriously, I want a lemon tree or three now.

Question: who has a good source on Pinterest or otherwise for some great summer looks? Were any of you doing WIWW last summer? I really, really need to update my Summer closet this year.

Stitch Fix – Fix #3

April 2, 2013 by Amy 9 Comments

2013-03-291

Yahoo!  I still LOVE to get my email saying a new fix from Stitch Fix is on the way.

I found my 3rd fix on my porch Friday. I’ll be honest–I had some credit (THANK YOU, FRIENDS) and I really hoped I could take advantage of the 25% deal if you keep all 5 pieces.  I’m all about free clothes, friends!  But alas, it was not meant to be.

Item #1

IMG_5010

I love the print of this dress and the bright, bold pattern.  It’s light and airy and would be great for the summer.  If I could pull it off (and usually I can’t), I think it’d be great with a belt.

Here’s my possible issue (besides the fact I desperately need a tan): I think it’s too short.  I think with some flats, I might feel a bit better.

The style card also suggests wearing it with leggings and I definitely can do that in the Spring and Fall, but then I don’t know if I’m a big fan of that.

Maybe I just need to play dress-up with it a little more before I send it back.

Item #2

Collages4

This is just a “no” all the way around for me.  The top didn’t fit right, the waist line isn’t flattering, the pockets make it bulky and I don’t like that high-low thing going on.

Items #3 and #42013-03-29

I almost didn’t post these pictures.  Both the ankle pants and shirt were in my fix and WOW.SERS.  Those pants were TIGHT.  It reminded me of mozzarella cheese in casing.  Just unroll me and make some pizza.  Yikes.

I do have to make note that I’d love to try these pants in a different size.  I know I’d wear them all the time if they fit.

The collared shirt is cute.  I like the coverage in the back and I think it’d be cute with my jean jacket.  The style card also has it tucked in a nude colored skirt which would be great for work.  I like the print up close but I’m not loving it far away. This is a definitely possibility though.

IMG_5017-001

Item #5

IMG_5022

I like the color of this mint sweater.  If I remember correctly, I think I asked for something mint.  However, I feel like I’m wearing something out of Emma’s closet.  You can see the fit is pretty small and you can’t see the glittery threads.  In some ways, it felt juvenile and in others, I felt like it aged me.  Scott likes it though so what do I know?

I think the sleeveless top is going to win out as much as I like the idea of the first one.

But wait!  There’s more!

My friend JoAnn got her first fix this week and came over one day at lunch for me to help her decide what to keep.  I snapped some pictures and thought I’d share.  Sorry about the bright! sun!  It was noon.

2013-03-27

Let’s go clockwise starting in the middle.

Middle: The color and neckline on the coral dress is fabulous but we both wished it had come as a top instead of a dress.

Top right: I liked the black and white sweater but JoAnn felt it dated her and she let it go back.

Bottom right: The print is fun on the black and white dress but the pleats were a no-go.

Bottom left: The floral sleeveless top was super cute but the bust was just too tight.

Top left: I wish I had gotten a better picture of the black cowl shirt on the top left.  I think my camera didn’t take a picture from the front like I thought. It looked really, really great and this is the item she kept.

Even though it doesn’t seem like we had many wins, the process is still super fun.

If you want to try it out, I’d love for you to use my referral link…for every person that signs up, you get a $25 credit to use on your next purchase!

Stitch Fix: Fix #2

March 10, 2013 by Amy 16 Comments

2013-03-091

I was SO anxious to get this second fix from Stitch Fix.  The first one was incredibly fun but I didn’t end up keeping any of the pieces.  I couldn’t pull the trigger on the one dress I loved because of the price.

I heard your fixes get better as you go and with a little extra credit thanks to some of you that used my referral link, I had high hopes. Thankfully, this second fix didn’t disappoint.

Item #1: Pop of Color Scarf

IMG_4500-001

You can’t see it well but this scarf had streaks of orange in it as well.  I loved the scarf but I *just* bought a black and white printed scarf that same day so I’ve opted out on this one.

Item #2: Striped Sweater

IMG_4503-001

{The jeans and shoes don’t necessarily go, sorry.} Oh man, do they know the way to my heart—stripes!  I love everything about this sweater and it’s a keeper!

Item #3:  Dolman Sweater

IMG_4505-001

I loved, loved the fit of this sweater and overall style but the color was just off for me.  If this had come in a different color, I would keep it.  I don’t know, looking at it now, I’m thinking it could be super cute with some white capris or shorts for the spring.  What do you think?

Item #4: Sweetheart Dress

IMG_4506-001

I love everything about this dress.  It’s flowy and girly and bright and printed.  It’s going to be perfect for spring with a jean jacket and great by itself in the summer.  I’m a little concerned about the fit though, especially in the sides.  Here it is with the jacket.  What do you think?

IMG_4507

Item #5: Owl Dress

IMG_4510-001

I want to love this dress so much.  I love owls, I love the style, I love the fit but I’m just not a huge fan of the color and print.

So, better than the first, yes?  I’m telling you, just getting the box and seeing what they picked out is 90% of the fun.  I hardly care if I actually keep any of the pieces but I’m glad I found at least one this time!

I’d love for you to try it out at least once and use my referral link…for every person that signs up, you get a $25 credit to use on your next purchase!
