Compassion: Our Child

February 13, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

I thought it was quite ironic and appropriate that we received a new letter from our child we sponsor through Compassion yesterday.  This one was especially touching because it is basically a thank you letter for the extra money we sent for his birthday.  His mother tells us he picked out shoes and socks and what a blessing it was.  Shoes and socks.

And Alexander also drew some pictures on the back and you know what?  They’re just like the drawings Emma draws.  These kids aren’t random kids in poverty.  They’re just like ours except they have NOTHING.  My children would probably scoff at socks for their birthday but to them it’s a blessing.

Please consider joining the ranks of Compassion.  If you need more info, just visit Shannon or BooMama or Anne as they tell the stories first hand.

The money is rolling in…and right back out

February 13, 2008 by Amy 1 Comment

We got our state tax refund two days early today!  Fortunately or unfortunately it was the exact amount we needed to pay off the credit card and refrigerator.  As soon as those payments post tomorrow, we will no longer owe on anything but the van and house again.  And as of Friday when we’re supposed to get the federal tax refund, we’ll have a nice chunk of change to decide what to do with.  This is a GREAT feeling.

Corporate Fun

February 12, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

I went to the office today for a SEVEN hour meeting with a vendor which thank goodness only turned into 5 hours with free breakfast and lunch.  I didn’t have to talk too much and what I had to talk about, I knew like the back of my hand so no stress.  So I amused myself by playing a little game.  I realized this one project manager was using lots of corporate jargon so I just started writing a few phrases down.  And now I’m going to share real phrases spoken by real project managers in a really big American corporation.

we’ll take a waterfall approach
we need the learned resources

how feasible
get efficiencies from this process
based on early transition
how granular we want to get
throw the balls in the air and try to balance them

I wish I would have started from the beginning, I would have had many comic strip starters for Dilbert.

Compassion International

February 11, 2008 by Amy 2 Comments

If you live under a blogging rock, you may not know that there is a blogging team headed to Uganda on behalf of Compassion International. I’ve written on our involvement with Compassion before so I won’t rehash it but I’ll say I highly recommend it. For just $32 a month, you can sponsor a child and communicate with the child through letters and even a visit if you choose in the future. The gifts are tax deductible and you can get it drafted out of your account and you never miss it but to a child somewhere in the world, it means the world.

I’ve added a button on my right sidebar if you want more information.

Arbonne update

February 7, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

I got all my Arbonne products yesterday…a day earlier than expected.  I hadn’t gotten a shower by the afternoon so I got to use all the products then and then some of them again at bedtime (plus I’ve been using samples on my face for two weeks).  And I actually got a shower this morning while Scott took the kids to school.  And I don’t have any dramatic results to show yet but I can tell you my skin is as soft as it’s ever been.  My face feels so smooth.  I LOVE the mineral powder foundation stuff along with the new foundation primer they came out with.  To me, my face looks so finished and yet it feels like I have nothing on.

I’m going tonight to a meeting where their national regional area VP something or other is attending.  I don’t think I’m ready to go do my own shows, but if these products continue to change my skin like they have already, I’m going to want everyone to know about it and I wouldn’t mind hosting a few more shows just for that and they tell me I can make a little bit of money too.  And we know I’m all for that.

More Elliptical Drama

February 7, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Wow, so did you know our second replacement elliptical broke too??  It made this horrible grinding, squeaking, nails on chalkboard sort of sound that hurt your ears.  Do not ever, ever buy a Horizon elliptical.  In fact, Scott took it up to Dick’s today and they recalled both of the ones we had.  Surprise, surprise.

Unfortunately the guy we’ve been working with wasn’t up there so the guy there made us pay the difference between the first one we had and a Sole one which is another step higher than the second Horizon we had.  Thank goodness for that tax refund coming next week is all I can say.

I will flip my lid if this ones breaks too.

There’s nothing like opening a magazine and seeing your face

February 5, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

That really happened to me this week. Heather and I are standing in the aisle at CVS and she’s flipping through the new Rejuvenate magazine and was all, "Hey, that’s you!"  If you didn’t know, my friend is (was) the editor of the magazine and asked me and the girls to be in the second issue last year.  This is the same picture as one in the first magazine so I guess they just used it.  No one even told me to expect it.  Fine with me though, I’ll take a celebrity moment as a surprise.

It’s late and all I have to talk about is Arbonne

February 2, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

OK, so Scott made us coffee for my Arbonne party and now I can’t sleep.  No great devotion forthcoming…I’ll just talk about Arbonne.  Arbonne is basically a skin care line.  They also have makeup and health products but the skin care sells it.  Since D’s last party, I have used the samples and can already tell a difference in my skin.  And seeing the amount of time and money I’ve already forked out for my acne prone skin, that says a lot.

I didn’t think I was going to buy too much tonight though but Mom was into it and decided to do their huge buy $350 worth of product and get $350 for free we did that together.  I had some money from the previous show for deciding to host and all in all, I came out with probably $1,000 worth of product for $200 something.  A lot to fork out at once but I got a TON of stuff.  Let me show you why.  I’m telling you, they just need to show these pictures and it sells itself.  (Sorry for the redundancy if you’ve attended some of their parties)

**Insert amazing before and after pictures..I can’t get Live Writer to save it and I don’t feel like uploading pictures…just click here to see pictures of dry feet, cellulite, wrinkles and acne that have all been helped by Arbonne*

The best part?  Some of these results are within TWO WEEKS.  Crazy, I tell you.

I have no idea why I’m doing a write up on Arbonne except to say I think it could really help some people.  I’m technically a consultant now (but not where I’m going to do my own shows or anything…you can pay $29 to become a “consultant” and buy the products wholesale yourself) and could get you some products if you’re interested, but that’s not why I’m writing this.  I had no clue about Arbonne up until a few weeks ago and now I’m sold!  I have yet to see if everything works on me, but I’ll be taking before pictures of my cellulite–and don’t argue with me, I DO have it–and maybe my feet and face as well and if it works, I’ll post my own before and after pictures.
