Etsy wannabe

December 3, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Do you know how bad badly much I want to be a seller on etsy??  I was just reading some of the success stories and I’m so pumped to sell something.  But I’m totally unqualified!  I can barely sew on a button.  Any attempt at painting I’ve made can be cute but looks amateurish.  I don’t know how to make costume jewelry or baskets or purses or soap or lipstick or cute little children’s toys or much of anything really.  I can not think of a single thing I could create to sell.

Hmph.

Because I’m smart like that

November 29, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I consider myself a pretty smart person.  I had good grades in school, graduated college with honors in Computer Science…something in my brain works right.  But every once in a while I say or do things that make you wonder what IS going on up there.

On Black Friday morning, Heather and I were in the line to turn into Target and I was joking about something and said "mucho dinero" and then went into some conversation I should have had in my head…"dinero..mula…do those both mean money in Spanish?  Do they have two words for money?  I wonder which one is the right one to use? mucho dinero, mucho mula.  Hmm…I wonder if it’s spelled mula or moola.  Mula definitely seems more Spanish."

So today I go to look it up.  I google mula to see and find this on urbandictionary.com:

Well, I got the Spanish part right but I’d like to see the look on a Spanish speaking person’s face when I said I had "mucho mula".

Ready for Christmas

November 23, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

image image So this evening we’re basically all done decorating for Christmas.

Lexi wanted to know if Christmas was tomorrow.  Well, no, but I’m ready for it.  My new prelit tree is my favorite so far.  I have the lime green and red sparkly decorations I bought last year.  I also have the 500 clear and 500 multicolor lights it came with as well as the many choices of patterns the lights will move in.  And then there’s the bubble lights that my mom got us for Christmas last year that I was excited to remember when we unpacked everything today.  It’s my favorite tree so far I’ve done.

We also bought new stuff for the yard this year.  In total, we have a blow snow globe with Santa in it, a Santa blow up, a penguin blow up, a lit and animated set of deer, a lit angel and then the projector that is projecting an image of an angel praying on the side of our house.  And the last touch is the icicle lights on the house tomorrow.

We may have only one gift bought, but we sure look like we’re ready.

Strange encounter

November 21, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Today we stopped by an old fast food restaurant in town.  It’s been there probably 30 years as I remember it as far back as when I was 5.  Through the years, it’s gained a really bad reputation and I do not frequent it.  However, recently I’ve heard it’s gotten better, they revamped some things and for some reason Emma has been begging to go.  I took the girls to the park and they wanted ice cream afterwards so I suggested we finally make the trip over there.  Well, we walk in and there is only one other customer in there.  He’s seated already.  He’s probably in his late 60s.  He’s wearing a security guard jacket and hat and has an eye patch.  Which I don’t really have a problem with but what he says to me freaks me out.

The girls and I are standing there waiting on my drink cup.  All the employees are behind where the kitchen is.  So no one is in earshot of this.  He gets up from his table and walks by us to fill up his cup.  He stops on his way back and says, "I fathered 3 dead children, you may as well give up."  I just say, "I’m sorry about that."  Then he proceeds to lift up his eye patch and shows me there is no eye there and says, "You know I only get $114 a month for that."  I say, "That’s awful." Then he says, "Yeah, they were awful when they told us about our children.  It was Christmas and they were laughing and then they poured liquid poison on us.  And they wonder why we’re mad."  I was sort of stunned but said, "Man, that’s awful, I’m sorry about that."  I think he muttered something about giving up as he walked away.

I’m not sure why I didn’t hightail it out of there with my children except that they wanted to stay and I really wanted a visit to that place done and over with.  I kept my eye on him the whole time and sat in the opposite side of the restaurant.  That really freaked me out.

Idiot Sightings

November 20, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I’m not a huge fan of email forwards but every once in awhile one makes me crack up.

IDIOT SIGHTING : I work with an individual who plugged her power strip back into itself, and for the sake of her own life, couldn’t understand why her system would not turn on.

IDIOT SIGHTING : When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealers shop to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver’s side door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. "Hey," I announced to the technician, "Its open!" His reply, "I know – I already got that side."

Wireless Memory Card

November 20, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

imageI found something new for "the list".  I want this new wireless memory card.   Just take pictures and instead of downloading them to your computer, just send them straight to your favorite photo-site or even your computer if you desire.  Sweet!

The Wish List

November 18, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So Scott had his final check up with the doctor on his collarbone on Thursday. The dr. declared him with a 10% loss. I’m not really sure what that means to anyone except I know in some way it helps workman’s comp determine what kind of settlement he’ll get. I have no idea if we’re talking a couple hundred bucks or thousands of dollars. We have a family friend who I think had 15% loss with two collarbone injuries but she got 30K. If we get anything near that, I’ll be SO INCREDIBLY EXCITED. So I wanted to start making a list. I keep putting things on "the list" and never really writing it down. So here goes…

  • Pay off the van
  • Possibly buy Scott a truck
  • New kitchen countertop
  • Possibly new kitchen faucet,
maybe one of these delta faucets
  • New kitchen flooring
  • Possibly new flooring in the living areas
  • New lighting in the kitchen
  • New lighting in the living room
  • New chair in the living room
  • Lamps for the bedroom
  • New rug for the living room
  • New bed for the girls
  • Curtains for the kitchen
  • Curtains for the living room
  • Curtains for the sunroom
  • Office Chair
  • Art for living room
  • Art for kitchen
  • Water softener
  • New stove
  • Gymnastic lessons for girls
  • Shopping spree for clothing for me
  • Dress clothes for Scott
  • iPhone
  • The yard needs serious help

Um, yeah, so I’m hoping it leans toward thousands side…

*Update*

I just added that up with very random figures I estimated and came up with $27,245.  No wonder I have "the list".
