WAHM woes

October 15, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So tonight is one of those nights.  Scott is at work and I have new code running for the first time at work.  And it didn’t go well.  And the kids are cranky and hungry and really want my attention because I’ve sat at this computer all day today.  So I’m having to run back and forth between this computer and the girls.  It’s gone sort of like..

run to the hall and change Lexi’s diaper that was getting ready to fall off

run back to the computer to check a chat/process

run back to my room to grab cream for Lexi and literally fight to put it on

run back to the computer to check a chat/process

run back to the kitchen to fix Cocoa Puffs for my hungry kids

run back to the computer to check a chat/process

go back in the living room to move Emma’s food tray to the recliner instead of the ottoman

run back to the computer to check a chat/process

run back to the living room because Emma and Lexi have spilled their Cocoa Puffs  3 feet across the floors while having a pillow fight

run back to the computer to check a chat/process

run back to the living room to dance with Emma during Dancing with the Stars because I promised her we would

run back to the computer to check a chat/process

run back to the living room to dance with Emma during Dancing with the Stars because I promised her we would

run back to the computer to check a chat/process

run back to the living room to dance with Emma during Dancing with the Stars because I promised her we would

run back to the computer to check a chat/process

And here I sit.  The girls are playing by themselves right now and I’m still waiting on someone to do something for me.  Some people think it would be so easy to work from home.  I have to disagree.  Totally.

Fear of horses

October 15, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

IMG_9143 I’ve had a fear of horses since I was somewhere around 7 I think.  I won’t bore you with the details as I’ve detailed them here.  Just wanted to say I rode a horse AGAIN this weekend at the Cornestone Ranch and I actually think I might be getting over my fear of horses.

And isn’t that hat just lovely?

#3?

October 12, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

There have been times in the past few months where I’ve asked Scott if he wanted to have another baby which is normally followed by a resounding "No!".  And normally when people ask me if we’re having any more children, I promptly respond, "No!" as well.  Which, why is it that so many people ask me that?  I don’t mind it at all but I’m just curious why everyone is so interested in whether we are planning another baby or not.  Anyway.  Number 3 has never really been in the plans.  I’ve always wanted two children and the same for Scott.  But in the past few months, I think if Scott even whispered a mention of wanting a third, I’d be on that train fast.

I keep convincing myself if we were to have a third, we’d most certainly have a boy because there’s no way I’d have to deal with lovingly raise another Princess-crazed little girl or pay for 2 more prom dresses or pay for one more wedding.  Although I know to be wiser because my previous pastor I think thought the same thing and he has four daughters.

But C is pregnant, due in December and at least 4 different girls my age at church just had babies.  Last night at a home party I went to, I spent most of my time holding one of those babies.  And she spit up on me and I had to hold her the whole time.  And yet, I didn’t mind a bit.  And while sometimes I look at them and think THANK GOD I’m not doing that again, there are other times where I wouldn’t mind rocking another baby, watching another baby go through all of those milestones so quickly it makes your head spin and honestly, I wouldn’t mind nursing another baby.  And I could have my little Tucker.  Or Ian.  Or Gabe.

But then I remember all the endless nights, the countless diapers, the feeding of EVERY meal, the guessing of cries, the endless spit-up, the poop, oh the poop.  I remember all that and think do I really want to start over with that.  And that’s 4 more years older I’ll be when all the kids are out of the house.

And Lord, how would I work with three??  I seriously doubt I could continue working at home like I do now.  Of course, Emma would be in school next fall so maybe that work.

And we certainly don’t have the room here.  We’d have to move and really I just don’t want to do that.

But then I think of decorating a blue room and buying cute, striped polos and khaki shorts and watching Scott and a little boy do man stuff and watching a little boy grow into a man and I think I might just be willing to stretch myself.

And just for the record, I’m NOT pregnant and in fact I’m on meds right now where I’m not allowed to even think of getting pregnant.

Thankful Thursday

October 11, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Let’s see what I’m thankful for this week…

  • Coupons!  Lovely coupons!  Triple coupons!

  • CVS Extra Care Bucks

  • Crystal Paine at moneysavingmom.com for sharing all her knowledge about her grocery savings techniques.

  • Allison for helping me get my blog monetization up and running.

  • Our safe travels out of town this weekend.

Yes, finances do seem to be on my priority list right now but hey, God calls us to be good stewards of our money so I don’t think I’m out of line–you just might be tired of hearing about it 😉

Random Catchup

October 11, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So a busy few days I guess.  Trying to get back into the swing of things since getting back from vacation.

Tuesday afternoon we had band practice.  It went well.  A youth singer finally came to practice and it was so much better.  Last night’s set went really well as well.  And one thing I’m really excited about is another youth is completely doing the podcast by herself this week.  So yay for one less thing for Amy to do!  Also, word on the street is we may have a prospect for a new youth pastor.  A musically talented husband/wife youth pastor.  Woo Hoo!

Besides that, I’ve been watching all my tv shows in the evening and couponing, menu planning and grocery shopping planning.  Yeah, not sure where the real Amy is on that one.  Every time I say something like that, Scott is like who is this new person?  But today I have plans to go to the store and should be saving around half off.

And since I’ve now referred to myself in third person twice already (I really usually hate that), I may as well say Amy’s gotta go.

40 Before 40

October 9, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Well, since I’m not even 30 yet, I’m guessing I should be able to come up with a decent list of things to do in the next 10 years and 9 months.  I would do 30 before 30 but then I’m guessing it would be really hard to come up with 30 things to do in the next 9 months.  So, the 40 things I would like to accomplish in 10 years and 9 months are:

  1. Successfully potty train both my children. Yes, they will be in middle and high school by the time I’m 40 and I’m really hoping we get that one down.
  2. Learn Flash.  Still looking for a copy of the software without paying so much.
  3. Finish the scrapbook I started for me and Scott.
  4. Memorize a whole chapter of Scripture.  Maybe more.  I knew a girl that memorized Romans in high school.
  5. Get a boob job.  If I get one, I should do it before I’m 40.
  6. Get my acne cleared up.  It’s gotten a lot better but still more to go.
  7. Learn to send out birthday cards to family members.
  8. Have a quiet time every single day.
  9. Get some or all of my blog printed.
  10. Get really good at couponing.
  11. Menu plan every week.
  12. Remember to pay my bills that require actual checks on time.
  13. Really understand CSS.
  14. Go on another cruise.
  15. Learn how to keep plants alive.
  16. Learn how to make Scott’s grandmother’s chicken and dumplings.
  17. Go to Europe.
  18. Learn to sew a patch on a shirt.
  19. Sing by myself in public.
  20. Possibly play the piano in public again.
  21. Find a ministry I’m really, really passionate about.
  22. See my children come to know Christ.
  23. Pay off our van.
  24. Buy a vehicle for myself other than a van.
  25. Buy Scott a truck.
  26. Write a book of some sort.
  27. Take my vitamins every day.
  28. Floss my teeth every day.
  29. Get my teeth whitened.
  30. Speak another language.
  31. Get another diamond ring.
  32. Get all my digital pictures printed.
  33. Organize all my digital pictures.
  34. Understand Reba’s "The night the lights went out in Georgia" enough to explain it to someone else.
  35. Hire someone else to clean my house weekly.
  36. Learn how to deal with confrontation.
  37. Be smarter about saving for retirement.
  38. Have our savings/retirement accounts well on their way to retirement.
  39. Have regular backups of my computer
  40. Learn to listen and obey to what God tells me to do.

Vacation?

October 7, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So yesterday we went to my mom’s school homecoming.  It was the whole parade/craft table/hot dog stand/pony ride thing.  It was nice but the girls got tired out pretty quickly.  So we headed to my grandfather’s to visit and then to my grandmother’s.   She seemed quite well after her surgery this week and really wouldn’t have been able to tell anything was wrong.

After that, Heather and I went to Ruby Tuesday for dinner while Mom and Dad stayed home and got ready for her reunion dinner.  Heather and I spent the rest of the evening home.  I actually spent the evening painting Mom’s bathroom and then started priming the kitchen.  Mom and Dad were pretty shocked we were working hard on it when they got home around 11.

Today we all got up late and went to eat lunch with my Mom’s sister and family.  We’ve been home ever since.  I spent the entire day painting the kitchen.  I’m not really sure why I wanted to paint, but I was definitely in the mood.  They weren’t even planning to paint it this weekend and just picked out the color yesterday.

So somehow this made me realize that I’m not sure if my vacation is really lay-in-bed-all day-doing-nothing.  I’ve felt really good that I’ve accomplished something.  When I get home I can look back and say look what I did.  I think part of it is I don’t get so much done I want to get done at home and on vacation, I can choose to paint a room if I want to and get it all completed.  So somehow even though my muscles are sore, I’m tired and I have paint all over my hands, hair and clothese, it feels like vacation.  Make sense to anyone?
