Magazine is here!

March 30, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

It’s for real!  The magazine comes out this weekend and it’s already online!  I think it looks pretty good although I have nitpicky things to say about the pictures.  I think overall Melissa does a great job of making the magazine look clean, streamline and hip.  I’m thinking about taking those pages out and having them framed.  Have no idea where I’d put them but I think they’d look good in a black frame matted in glass (you know where there’s just glass where the matting goes).

People from work want signed copies which is really funny to me.  My manager is out of town next week and he wants me to leave a signed copy on his desk.  I don’t think I’ll have a “signature” signature except that I’m planning to sign it like I do my checks lol.  I thought about putting the Proverbs 31:30 reference on it but then I’m not sure.  And then I thought of XOXOXO but then is that really appropriate for my manager?  I really don’t want to make a big deal about it…it is only a free magazine that my best friend from 3rd grade took pictures of me in her living room for free.  LOL.

Randomness

March 27, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Scott’s off doing a side job today.  Hoping to make some extra spending money for the Turkey trip.  Apparently getting jewelry and rugs over there is a good thing.

Speaking of the Turkey trip, his trip is less than 2 weeks away.  Sort of surreal.  I am really excited for him.  I can’t wait to hear what happens.  He is going with a group he really gets along with and I just think they will be great together.

I am pretty tired today. I feel like I just need a nap.  I’ve been going to bed late and having to get up with the girls through the night.  And I can tell I had no nap on Sunday.

I think Scott might stay home with the girls and let me go to youth camp by myself in June.  We just found out David Nasser is going to be the speaker again which is really cool.  I’m getting really excited…one week with no husband or kids while they are all safely tucked away at home together.  Woot!

flower1.jpgI’m so proud of myself for cutting a few flowers in the yard and making a little bouquet.  I have the vase on my desk and it makes me smile inside every time I see it.

Chris!

March 25, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

cd2.jpgI can not say enough good stuff about Chris Daughtry’s free concert in Greensboro Friday night.  C and I ended up going by ourselves.  It took an hour longer than the normal 1 hr 45 min. ride which did make for quite a long unplanned road trip but fun nevertheless.  I have never been to Greensboro and made it simply by Google maps which I was quite proud of.  Even found a parking space on the side of a downtown street where someone was pulling out of even though all of the parking decks had Lot Full signs on them.  There were droves of people walking towards their Main Street and there was no doubt we were in the right place.

cd3.jpgOnce we got down there, we stood in line forever at Papa John’s even after they ran out of pizzas and were waiting for another delivery of personal pizzas.  The downtown was obviously not expecting the huge turnout and the vendors were few and far between.  I have to say Charlotte does a much better job of feeding the crowds.  Anyway, with pizza and drinks in hand, we made our way to the stage to put our stake in the crowd and didn’t plan to leave.  We scooted up as we could, but I’m telling you soon enough we were packed like sardines.  I couldn’t even move without my camera hitting against someone.  People were standing on nearby roofs and hanging out restaurant and business windows.  We were pretty far back but I could see the stage and Dad’s super-zoom lens got decent pictures.  The sound was great though, no problems hearing.

cd5.jpg C got faint though before Chris came on and had to get out of the crowd.  The weather was a warm 75 and in a tight crowd, it felt more like 90.  I stayed put though and she called to let me know she was ok, she could still hear fine and was just going to watch the big (huge) screen.  view.jpgI had stood in my spot for about 2 hours by the time Chris came on stage.  I was stuck in the middle and couldn’t tell how many but I knew from the traffic trying to go through and the sound, it was a lot.  They announced that although they had expected 7-8,000, the estimate was 23,000 people were in attendance.  Yikes. (I’m not sure if you can see it but I was standing to the rigth of the light pole that is to the right of the white tent).

cd1.jpgChris sang almost every song on his CD, 2 covers and then sang Home like 3 times.  He sang them beautifully and it sounded exactly like the CD, which I love because some people have completely different recording voices.  He came back twice to sing more because guess why??  He is using the footage from the concert for his next video for Home. Woot!  I am so excited.  The crowd was definitely pumped.  And I was in heaven!  It was so great.  He looked great, coming out in a black tank, looking as if he’d been working out quite a bit.  He had a beard, shaved from his chin down.  And lots of eye makeup, I presume for the video shoot.  Maybe he does that for all the concerts, probably but who knows.

cd7.jpgC and I met up after he finally stopped after 2 encores (the second time asking our permission to sing again to get more shots for the video) and I bought two concert t-shirts.  One short-sleeve and one long-sleeve with a hood.  We then tried to get a glimpse of him going to his bus but the event staff shooed away anyone without backstage passes.

cd4.jpgI proudly made my way out of downtown and back to 85.  It only took us about 1.5 hr to get back home although I didn’t actually get home until about 1:30am.  I was so excited I wasn’t tired at all though.

brackets

March 25, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

OK, I’m out.  Two of my final four teams lost this weekend for one bracket and my winner lost in another game so I’m out.  Better luck next year I suppose.

Brackets

March 20, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So I started by downhill sloped in one of my pools…down from #1 to tied with several for #3.  As for the one at work, I’ve worked my way up to #8.  It’s really funny because my coworkers are #14, #50 and #71 in that pool so seeing that I have no clue what I’m doing, it seems ironic that I’m doing better than them and my manager is razzing them about it apparently.  It seems odd to not have any games for a few days.  I have no idea why I’m into this this year but actually hope I win one of the pools.

Ridin a horsey

March 20, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

My whole life I have hated horses.  Well, not horses themselves, but riding horses.  It all started when I was about 7 when I road a pony at the old PTL and it pooped while I was riding it.  And then when I was in middle school we went to a camp thing with our GT class and this horse bucked up while another student was on it and while they didn’t get hurt, it scared me to death.  Then move on to youth camp…they had horses and they made me sit on one but didn’t make me ride it.  But just sitting up there I felt so FAR UP THERE and SO out of control.  I could not wait to get off.  So in high school when my family went on a trip to the mountains, I completely skipped the horse riding trip and stayed at the resort.  Nothing really terrible happened to me with a horse, but I had very little contact with them and I guess the unknown was scary.  So on to this past Sunday…

The girls were dropped off at Grandma’s, Scott wanted me to go with him to a guy’s house from church who was going to build him a bumper thing for his winch on the Land Rover.  I reluctantly gave up my Sunday nap and went.  Their house was really cool.  They had A LOT of family land that they sold to a developer that built a neighborhood (Jane, you may know Eppington South in FM).  Their driveway is in the neighborhood but you can’t see the house from the street and after doing down the driveway, it’s like going into an old country house.  Supposedly they are on about 22 acres of land.  It’s really nice.  So one of the first things I noticed is the little barn with the horse.  I thought of it because of Emma and her need to ride a horse.  So I’m talking to the guy’s wife about getting Emma over there and I happen to mention how scared I am of them and of course that means she’s going to make me get on the horse.  So I did.

I was actually really excited to get on the horse.  It is actually their 12 year old daughter’s horse and she assured me the Classy was a very tame horse and not to be scared.  So I wasn’t.  She led me around their field a couple times and then the Mrs. insisted I be allowed to take the reigns myself.  So I did.

I did it all by myself!  I actually made him go, made him turn, made him stop and even back up.  And I liked it!!  I’m so proud of myself.

Of course I told Emma and she is reminding me every. day. now that she wants to go ride a horse.  So probably will plan on that soon.  I want to go when their daughter is there.  Apparently the horse won’t do much without her.  And I want to go when Scott is off but he works this weekend so we’ll see.
