How to Find Unplayed Music in iTunes

June 8, 2010 by Amy 3 Comments

I’m in desperate need of disk space on my computer.  Moving computers is such a pain and I’m trying to avoid it at all costs (literally).  One thing on my list is to remove unnecessary music.  But how do I find music I never listen to?  Well.  iTunes has made a way (where there was no way.  sorry.  sometimes it just comes out).  I’ve been looking for an excuse to use this CamStudio software and I found it.  I have the how-to in the video below.

If you can’t see the video, I’ll make it easy. Create a New Smart Playlist in iTunes and change the search criteria to PlayCount = 0. Tada!

Hitting the Fashion Wall

June 3, 2010 by Amy 8 Comments

2010-06-03_2058

Isn’t that dress cute?  Like so adorably cute?  And wouldn’t you be so excited if you only paid $10 for it?  Yeah, I was too.

But then I tried it on with a pair of black short and the proportions were all wrong and there was way too much cleavage.

So I took the shorts off and put a shirt under it but the dress was too short.

So I put some black tights on under it and it was so. cute.

If I were 15.

Can’t you just see it?  A little white shirt under it and black tights?  It sounds so cute.  And it was SO comfy.  I wanted to wear it so. bad.  But I knew it looked ridiculous on my 32 year old self.  But I figured my 5 and 7 girls who love fashion would be supportive even if I knew it wasn’t age appropriate.  So I walked into the bathroom where the girls were bathing and said whaddya think?

Lexi: It looks babyish (says the baby!).

Emma: Awwkward.

*Sigh*

I’ve hit some kind of fashion wall.  And it stinks.

But it’s SO cute!

iPhone Progress

May 26, 2010 by Amy 3 Comments

2010-05-26_0931

Sometimes I feel like my iPhone drama could have its own blog.

Since my 3G phone died Saturday I’ve sent it off to BrokemyiPhone.com.  They came recommended by BeanTownBloggery.com through Kaitlin and I feel confident it is in good hands.  They will be replacing the screen, replacing the battery and possibly the vibrating mechanism.  I believe I can get my money back out of it once I get iPhone 4 as it’s not cheap to fix it.  Thankfully a lot of people on eBay want iPhones.  I just hope the demand doesn’t change in the next month.

So yesterday the 1st gen replacement came in from Jason.  I’m not going to admit to breaking into a full out run to my mailbox when I thought it arrived via USPS only to remember he sent it UPS and then meeting the UPS guy halfway through the yard to relieve him of the delivered package.  I mean, only a pathetic iPhone addict would do that.  So after calmly retrieving the package from the porch where it had been sitting for hours *ahem*, I put my card in and began activating and restoring my phone.  Five hours later I went to bed after watching it say it had 2 hours left for 3 of those 5 hours.  This morning I woke up to the above progress scan.  I *think* it has added one more bar through the morning.

So there we have it.  One 1st gen here restoring as slow as Christmas and my 3G is in California.  And all patiently waiting for iPhone 4.  Less than a month!

Model Homing

May 11, 2010 by Amy 3 Comments

Saturday for no good reason whatsoever we went to a new nearby neighborhood and walked through several houses that were being built.  The kids were fascinated by the two story houses.  In one of them, the kids realized there was another flight of stairs on the second story which led to a 3rd story (obvs) that had 2 more bedrooms on it.  The house had SEVEN bedrooms in all!  It was like a small hotel!  I have been in one of the largest homes in Charlotte and even it did not have so many bedrooms (although it DID have 2 full kitchens, a full movie theater, bar, dance floor, wine cellar, etc, etc).

Anyway, so we ended up going in the model home and it was so cute!  The kids LOVED this bonus/theater room on the second floor.

You know I love orange so I thought this boy’s room was so cute.

And the girls were IN LOVE with this room across the hall

photo 4

From above, you can see the super cute living room and sunroom. I just love those round mirrors above the fireplace.  I love all the green!!

photo 5

And this downstairs master bedroom is speaking my language with all the green and black!

After that model home, we ended up going in another development across the street with a new builder.  We walked in a house that was nearly done.  The hardwoods are hiding under all the cardboard.  Scott absolutely fell in love with the floor plan.  We have batted around the idea of building one day and this open floor plan is exactly what he had in mind.  There is an office directly to your left when you walk in and then there is this open dining room.

And then that living room is open to this kitchen. The back wall is lined with windows and it’s just our style!

Scott had me take pictures just so we could remember.  Well.  We ended up going in the model home in that neighborhood and what do you know it is the same floor plan!   Here is the dining room:

If you know us, you’ll know this is right up our alley!  This house actually had a second story that had 4 bedrooms and a large seating area and then a third story with a movie theater and bedroom/exercise room.  This house was way more house than we need but it sure was fun to walk through!

Meeting The Pioneer Woman – Charlotte, NC Book Tour

May 7, 2010 by Amy 25 Comments

OK, so it’s no secret I love P-Dub’s cookbook.  And therefore I love P-Dub because she created it all.  But really, I loved her long before the cookbook.  I was reading The Pioneer Woman when she was still posting Black Heels to Tractor Wheels as blog posts.  But as I waxed poetic about the other day, it got a little personal last December when I started cooking.  To say I was excited to meet her tonight is a little understatement.  Yes, we all know I love celebrity in general but really I felt, with thousands others, that I knew Ree and I just had to tell her in person how appreciative I was.  And I did!  So here’s how it went down:

This is Joseph-Beth at SouthPark.  I didn’t know it existed until tonight.

IMG_0754

I met my friend Becky there and we scoped out the bookstore and found the nook where the signing went down.  I did a little squee and took a bad picture:

IMG_0757

Becky and I then squatted in some chairs and took pictures of ourselves while we began the long wait.  We were actually one of the first there and chatted while everyone began to file in.  But we got kicked off of the second floor where her talk and signing were going down just before Ree came out.  So we went and stood downstairs.

IMG_0761

And while we were standing there, all the sudden Ree showed up just a few feet in front of us and went up the stairs.  I grabbed Becky’s arm and said, “There she is!” and then snapped another picture.

IMG_0762

And then a few minutes later, a very nervous, sweaty (according to her) Ree came to talk to us.

IMG_0768

IMG_0769

She was her usual, funny, self-deprecating self as you’ll see below.

The Pioneer Woman Charlotte, NC from Amy Bennett on Vimeo.

For the record, I was the one that asked her about the ending to Black Heels to Tractor Wheels.  And she wouldn’t budge on any spoilers, darnit!

So the next two hours were spent roaming around the bookstore, chatting with Becky, her mother and her friend (and my new friend) April.  Finally, it was Group G’s turn.  What happens is you get tickets before the signing and they assign 20 people to each alphabet letter.  Each group is called one at a time upstairs so basically you are free to roam until it’s your group’s turn.  Which is genius so there are no waiting in lines!  So we finally got up there and we got in our group’s line.  Ok, so there is one small waiting line.  And I was thinking I might either puke or cry when I got up to meet her.  I did see a familiar face though.  Back in high school days, I worked with that Joseph-Beth worker in the green there, Mrs. Betsy.  I babysat her daughter a time or two.  It was good to see a familiar face.

IMG_0772

So Becky and April were before me but when they were done we wanted to do a group shot but I hadn’t met Ree yet.  But when I emerged from the line to get into the picture and Ree saw me, she was all “Amy!  Bennett!”  And Betsy was all “I know Amy!”  And I was all “OMG!  Ree knew my name!”  She really does read my stalker tweets!

IMG_0775

So then it was my turn and as I’m sitting down, Ree announces to Mrs. Betsy that we’re acquaintances and Betsy tells me to sit down because apparently I was nervously still standing up at the table.  And then I began to tell her just how much the cookbook changed my life and how appreciative my husband is.  Ree had a great smile and was so nice.

So then we took a pretty picture!

IMG_0778

I told her I had 8 more recipes to go.  And she told me she likes my blog!  And I’m thinking, OMG, Ree has been to my blog!

IMG_0777

And then Mrs. Betsy thinks to take pictures of us while I tell her how she changed my life and I give her my gift.

IMG_0780

I’ll try to ignore my funny faces. She gratefully accepted the gift.  If you’re wondering, I decided on local strawberry jam and syrup and a fabric coffee wrap with a “P” on it with another note telling her how much she changed my life.  I signed it With buttery and creamy love, Amy.  And just as I’m typing this I realized that maybe could be a bad idea.

IMG_0781

And then!  And then!  Ree asked Mrs. Betsy to take a picture of us with her camera.  Do you see her Nikon sitting there at the front of the table?  Yes that one!  Because we’re acquaintances!

At this point I drifted out to the parking lot on Cloud 9.  I came home and Scott was so funny because he let out a fan girl squee with me as soon as I walked in.  And then I showed off my autographed cookbook.  The same one that’s falling apart and have used approximately 52 times.

IMG_0783

See that smile?  Yep.  It was a good night. Love ya, P-Dub!  You’re my favorite acquaintance!

Pass the Ginger Ale

April 28, 2010 by Amy Leave a Comment

I had so many posts in mind for this week.  The plan was definitely not to leave you hanging with a haul all week.  I would have LOVED to have written some new posts but unfortunately a raging stomach bug hit me at 6:30am yesterday and I still have a glass of Ginger Ale beside my bed.  It was a rough one.  I’m on the upswing though and I’m guessing I’ll be back to regular programming soon.

Hope you’re having a great week.

PS Casey was amazing on Idol this week and I was so happy he didn’t go.

PPS Only 9 more days until I get to meet the Pioneer Woman!

PPS What was up with Glee this week?  The first time I caught it live and it was a snoozer.

TGIF – Stream of consciousness

April 23, 2010 by Amy 4 Comments

Basically this means I just type and keep typing until I don’t want to type anymore.  Have fun…

TGIF indeed.  This has been a full week.  Not an overly busy week but just heavy.  I’ve had some heavy posts on the blog that have generated some good conversation outside of the blog.  Several of them just have me thinking a lot.  Work has been pretty busy.  I basically completed an estimated 4 weeks of work in one week.  Not to toot my horn or anything but it’s just mentally exhausting.  I was sick last weekend and into the beginning of this week.  I started birth control back on Sunday.  My doctor had suggested it for my acne and I decided to go for it even though I’ve not been on it for nearly 10 years.  I think between that and the thyroid medicine my body is out of whack.  I guess it will take time.  Lexi got a bike this week.  It’s Barbie and she’s so cute on it.  Until she rams it into one of Scott’s tools in the garage to stop and gives me a heart attack.  She’s going to have to learn to use the hand break!  She also had a friend over all day today.  They played so well together and really today was one of the quietest days of work I’ve had all week.  I finally decided to catch up on Glee yesterday.  I let it play while I was working.  I have to say, it’s a good little show.  I wouldn’t put it over  Lost whose time slot it shares but still.  It will probably be my Tues 9 replacement.  Will and Emma are just too cute for words.   We bought Avatar yesterday and I have to say it’s kind of a boring movie the second time through and without 3D.  They tend to hang out with the scenery and it’s just not that impressive, even on HD BluRay.  I’m buried in laundry.  I’ll probably be doing that all day tomorrow morning.  I may go with Scott to the church and do some yard work but I don’t want to be the only girl there and I’m pretty helpless.  I wouldn’t mind pitching in if I can though.  Water runs maybe?  I made some cranberry cookies  at Scott’s request and no PW recipe that was.  They were crumbly and not sweet enough.  Definitely not to my liking.  It’d do better as a coffee cake type deal.  Emma and Lexi got into silly bandz this week.  They seem like a waste of money but it reminds me of having slap bands when I was little and it makes it all better.  I like the idea of them sharing with their friends too.  While I’m sitting here Scott has just discovered YouTube on his PS3. Please shoot me now.  He’s cackling.  I don’t know whether to laugh or roll my eyes.  He’s so funny.  Well, I’m exhausted.  Think I’ll go to bed a little early.  Really looking forward to a day off tomorrow.  And please, someone break the YouTube function on our PS3.  Then again, maybe I’ll record him and load it onto YouTube.
