Anniversary Dinner

August 7, 2009 by Amy 6 Comments

DSCN0334

Tonight Scott and I celebrated our 11th Anniversary that is actually tomorrow.  A local radio station had a Half Off Gift Card.  Which trust me, really isn’t half off because tax and gratuity doesn’t count.  Anyway, it was at Ruth’s Chris and it was so, so good.  After last year’s big Grove Park Inn weekend, it seemed like a simple celebration with just dinner.  No movie, no ring, no spa but it was still fun.  And you can definitely tell we are past the honeymoon phase by our conversation…

Me: I’m going to burp in your face.
Scott: I don’t care.

Me (in jest): You got 11 years but I ain’t promising another 11.

Me: I love you, babe.
Scott: I love you too.  But I’m not giving you another ring.

Me: I want the chocolate explosion
Uh, I’ll spare you his reply

Scott: The kids want their room redid
Me: They’re not getting their room redid.
Scott: Honey!  It’s “redone”.  Hmph.  Embarrassing.

Me (referring to dessert): It was not that big last time
Scott: That’s what she said.

None of that may be funny to you.  But it was funny to me.  I love that he makes me laugh.

I may heart a lot of things.  I love my TV and my kids and my book and all my blogs but never doubt I heart Scott so. much. more.

And I can’t end this post without saying  I can’t quit thinking about the Ruth’s Chop Salad I had.  Yum!

Renovation Progress

Kitchen

Yesterday afternoon the kitchen counter top came in.  This is it as we speak.

Really hope Scott knows what to do with it.  Actually, he’s a genius figuring stuff like that out so honestly, I can’t wait for him to get started. Unfortunately he has to have help because one section is over 12′ long which means he probably won’t get to it until next week.  I can’t say I’m not sad about that and didn’t beg.

Bathrooms

Scott decided to go ahead and do the hall bathroom before doing the master bathroom’s trim so he could do that all at once.  So last night he cut the tile and laid it today.

Yes, we have a toilet in our tub.  Besides that, I think it’s looking really good.

I just called about the lighting and it’s being shipped to them tomorrow and should be here by mid week next week.

Mid-Week Random

I feel the need to do a brain dump.  No fancy stuff today.

I’ve been on Internet overload since this weekend. I had all the Danny Gokey hoorah from the concert and then two of my other blogs were involved in the TCAs.  Blogging has been a lot of work the past few days to say the least. I actually turned off Twitter yesterday afternoon. I guess all of us have a limit after all.

One of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time is Scott teaching the girls how to give wedgies the other night. Their little Barbie undies stretching to their shoulders and their tanned bottoms were almost too much. It was one of those times Scott and I looked at each other and belly laughed at our kids.

Scott has ripped apart the hall bath and will be laying the tile for in there today.

The kitchen counter top should be in at any time.

My bathroom lighting still hasn’t shipped.

A diamond fell out of my ring again.  I think it’s the same one as before.

Yesterday Lexi accidentally knocked my non-novel off my desk and it tore the back cover.  It gave me the courage to actually write in the book to edit it.  I’ve spent some time doing that.  It really makes a difference reading it on paper.  I don’t know why.  But it’s more clear than ever that it needs a lot of work.

Emma goes back to school in two weeks.  She seems to be ready to go back.  I don’t care to see 7am any time soon.

Scott’s new motorcycle still won’t work.  He’s gotten a new battery, replaced the gas and cleaned the spark plugs.  He has a neighbor coming to look at it tonight.   We’re still not sure whether it’s a keeper.

We visited a new church Sunday.  We all liked it.

We haven’t been swimming much because the pool had a bad case of algae.  Scott cleaned it and dumped all the chemicals in today.  Hopefully this weekend we can return to the swimming.

Bathroom Makeover Step 2 Day 4

August 3, 2009 by Amy 1 Comment

Scott got the toilet installed and did some caulking which you obviously can’t see but makes such a difference.

Tomorrow he’ll be sealing the grout.

After that the molding goes in.

Bathroom Makeover Step 2 Day 3

Scott got the grout down.  Tonight he will work on getting the toilet installed.  The picture isn’t great.  My camera battery is still dead from this weekend.

American Idol Tour 2009

August 2, 2009 by Amy 4 Comments

So I went to this little concert last night and met a few people 🙂

Again, God spoiled me and I ended up in box seats WITH backstage passes.  Actually MORE than I wanted.

I have a bajillion posts on my Danny site  but this picture will probably suffice to describe my evening.  If you read the recaps, just remember I wrote those for hard core Danny fans and it recounts every last minute detail.  I admit it’s a little scary.

Bathroom Makeover Step 2 Day 1

July 31, 2009 by Amy 1 Comment

Scott started on the tile and toilet replacements today.  He was able to rip up what we had and cut and place all the tiles.  Tomorrow will be the grouting.  It will be several days before we (he) can install the toilet.  I feel weird saying toilet so much.  Commode?  It doesn’t seem much better.

I didn’t get a great picture of the before because he started before I got home but we had a white linoleum you can see here:

After the rip out.  Please notice the mint green our bathroom and bedroom walls were when we moved in 5 years ago:

Tiles are placed:

Assuming that we won’t be here more than five years we went with the most affordable and neutral tile we could.

And yes, we have a very small bathroom.   It’s one of few things I don’t like about this house.

Renovation Progress

The Bathroom

  • Scott went and picked up the mirror yesterday.  So excited that it is here.  I feel the need to mention we got it for free again.  Thanks, again and again to my friend.
  • I ordered the lighting yesterday but it’s back-ordered for a week.  I can’t do anything to the mirror until I get the lighting.
  • We bought the tile on Monday night.  Scott will be installing it as well as the new toilet and molding this weekend.

The Kitchen

  • We got a quote on the laminate counter top.  The lady said it’d be just as cheap to get it formed instead of Scott buying sheets and trying to do it himself.  $675 to get it formed and Scott would still need to cut out the sink hole.  I called today to get the quote on just the sheets.  $85 for all of it.  Just as cheap?  She’s crazy and Scott will be at least attempting to do it himself.  Worse case, we trash it and spend the money and we’re out less than $100.  For $85 why have I waited so long??
  • We still need to go look for glass tile for the back splash.  I’m going to allow myself to spend extra here if the counter top works out.
  • Turns out Scott and I disagree heavily on the sink.  He still wants stainless steel even though Sally suggested an almond/biscuit porcelain. I’ll have to decide this before the counter top.
  • I’m having a hard time finding a rug.
  • I need to finalize and order the lighting.
  • Mom found a lamp for my yellow cabinet for $15.  Score! (See below)

Bedroom

  • We bought a new picture for above the bed for $50 (!) and moved the existing one to the other wall.
  • I got quotes on getting the closet doors replaced with mirrored doors.  Not sure if I mentioned that recommendation on the original post.  It was going to be $800 for both closets.  I nixed that idea quickly.
  • The only other thing sitting out there is we’d like to get a flat screen so we can get all the electronics off the large dresser.  We may just have to treat ourselves for our anniversary for this.  But shhhh…Scott hasn’t heard that idea yet.

Again, see the original plan here.
