Catch-up

May 2, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

What is with posting only on Wednesdays?

What’s been going on?  Uhh…Saturday did a photo shoot at M’s house for a comp card.  Not sure I’m totally happy with them.  Have 2 shots out of 400 that I think I’m going to use.

Been working my butt off on youth group stuff.  DVDs are being printed now to be handed out this weekend.  Got embedded video on the web site now.

Nothing really new with the girls.  Lexi talks up a storm lately.  Copies everything Emma does and says.  Emma is learning to add thanks to Playhouse Disney Playschool software.  I gave her a set of spoons and forks and she groups them into what they ask for and adds them altogether.  She does it all by herself.  Lots of time doing that and she’ll be rattling off 4+6 pretty soon.  Lexi is all about little princesses (Belle, Belle White, Cissarella), Peter Pan movie, and basically running around talking being silly with Emma.  Can’t believe we’re halfway to 3 and 5 now.  Yikes!

Catch-up

April 25, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Hm, this might be a long post.  Haven’t posted in a week now.

So this past weekend is a blur.  I remember working A LOT last weekend and then finally heading to Longhorn at almsot 9pm on Friday night and then sleeping in Saturday.  OH!  Then I went to dinner with a bunch of kids going to prom on Saturday night!  Um, yeah, I said prom.  Two of the girls in the youth group I’m close to invited Scott and I and the youth pastor and his wife to dinner with them.  Two couples dropped and they had room on their reservation.  Last minute, they dropped out because they had no babysitter and then Scott wouldn’t go without him so it was just me.  I tried to back out too but they begged me to go so I did.  I felt SO lame at the house taking pictures with the others and then waving bye to all the parents when we left for dinner.  But I took the role of sexy chaperone and went with it.  Dinner was at Villa Antonio’s in Charlotte.  And it was SO good.  Definitely have to go back there with some adult couples.  The dinner was actually a ton of fun.  I drove back with them to the high school and D and I watched the rest of the people going in, as is our annual ritual.

Sunday was normal stuff and then the same ‘ol, same ‘ol came back this week.  Nothing extravagent going on.

I’ve attempted a new tactic with Emma and the potty, creating a potty chart with new stickers.  It worked once.  She has one sticker on there.  She has since acted like she wants to go to use it but has had at least one accident I can think of.  Ugh.  One day she will get this all right.

This weekend I’m going to do a mini photo shoot at M’s house with J, her husband who took the pictures from the magazine.  I’m going to attempt to get 4 good pictures and make a comp card and possibly look into modeling.  No lingerie or swimsuits for me, just something like I did last time in a catalog or such.  I’m not getting my hopes up but it would be an extra-fun part-time job.

As for Bachelor…LOVED his picks for this week.  Bevin is definitely on the top of my list of who I think he really likes although I really like Amber.

American Idol…I liked Chris and Jordin this week.  I can’t believe how much better Jordin has gotten.  She sort of reminds me of Kelly from the first season even though she came on stronger a little earlier.  My guess is Lakisha or Chris will go though.  With 6 left, I’m getting to the point where I will really miss whoever goes and Simon was right when he said the competition started last night.

Also in the works is a DVD for our youth group to hand out at our spring festival next weekend.  Lots of work to do between now and then.

Day 4

April 12, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So last night’s spaghetti dinner was a complete flop.  We only made $60 and hardly anyone came.  Probably due to spring break and the rain.  I think we are doing a car wash to raise some more money for youth camp.  But every student costs $270 to go so we better have a GREAT car wash.

The girls spent the afternoon at MIL’s.  Which was nice.  It was odd after they left I actually smiled.  Not because they were gone but because it was sort of the middle of the week and I was so proud of myself for taking good care of the girls, the house and even getting the trash taken out yesterday.  That’s sounds stupid, but I was.

We haven’t heard anything since yesterday morning from the guys.  I knew they’d be horrible at checking in with us.  They need a woman delivering all the details!

Winterjam 2007

March 20, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

We hadn’t really planned on it, but we went with the youth group on Sunday night to see the tour of Christian artists, Winterjam.  It included such as Steven Curtis Chapman, Jeremy Camp, Hawk Nelson, Sanctus Real, Britt Nichole and Newsong.  It was REALLY, REALLY loud.  As in I felt like my chest had turned into a bass drum.  And I stuffed napkins into my ears just to soften the blow.  But it was also really, really fun.  Everyone sounded really good and put on a great show.  It was their last show on the tour and everyone was playing pranks on each other during their sets and at the end, they were throwing water on each other and generally having a good time.  So it was fun to watch that comraderee.

catch up

January 26, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So the girls went back to school tomorrow for the first time since last Wednesday.  And then Lexi got a fever last night.  Great, round 2 is coming I suppose.

We had so many technical problems at youth group Wednesday night.  The screen wouldn’t work so no words to the songs or the PowerPoint.  The guys restarted the computer in the middle of the message so I couldn’t use my live capture of the sermon.  But let me tell you, God moved in that service.  Two people got saved and two rededicated.  But there is so much drama (see previous post) it’s hard to see the good in the bad.

So Mom and Heather are in New York this weekend.  So the girls won’t be going off with my mom today.  Which is ok with me.  While I was at the church last night recapturing the sermon on the computer, I listened to a sermon from my old pastor and as usual, God used it to speak to me.  I’ve been praying about a certain thing and I’m not certain, but I think the sermon was part of the answer.  I’m still not totally sure so I’m gonna keep on praying about it before anything happens.  I know it’s vague but just call this an unspoken request.

drama

January 26, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

There is so much drama going on with our youth group.  Not really so much. Just two girls I know of that are stirring up trouble.  One of which I kind of expect it from and honestly I’m not sure if I care that she comes back or not.  She’s got her head set one way and I don’t think anyone can change her mind.  The other though we have put SO much energy into and she’s basically slapped us in the face.  At this point, she can just go.  But I know she will probably end up in a lot of trouble before long and I do care about her and don’t want that for her.  But if she can’t grow up just a little and make some apologies, I could probably live with myself if she left.

Podcasts

January 18, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I’m just about ready to release the links to our podcasts to our youth group.  I’m waiting on iTunes to make one more update.  They still have the wrong URL for one of the feeds.  I created a new page last night for our web site to link to all the new feeds.  I’m pretty happy with it.

We’ve been trying to figure out how to capture the video/audio on Wednesday night straight from the sound board/camcorder to the computer instead of having to record it on the camcorder and then go back and capture it on the computer.  Which I think we did last night except something happened with the sound. I think S turned the sound down on the board thinking it was coming out too high and then never turned it back up when we realized it wasn’t.  And then the files WOULD NOT copy to the external hard drive.  It was so weird.  It said it had 60GB free but would not copy our 15GB file.  What is up wtih that??  And I hate having to go back and wait another hour to re-capture this.  It will probably be tomorrow or Saturday before I can actually get a new podcast out.  Which really if everything worked properly–capturing, file copying and such–I could have had everything out last night.  I suppose one day we’ll get it down to a science.

wake up, amy!

January 17, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I am so tired this morning.  Monday I drank way too much caffeine and was up past 2am.  Last night I took a Unisom and was asleep by 10:15 but was up at 6:30-7ish which is a little early for me.  And now I’m just tired.  With no looming deadlines to meet at work, I have nothing to push me through the day.  Plus this Kenny G playing on my laptop is not helping.  I think I’ll have to switch to my “new” CD mix which includes “Smack That”.  That should wake me up.

Anyway, I really like my hair cut I got yesterday.  Apparently she was trained at the same place as Toni & Guy people do and I did recognize some techniques that my old hair stylist used.  And she seemed to understand how to cut my hair so it didn’t look so stringy.  So I’ll probably go back to her.  She was $45 though so not much of a price cut but she’s extremely close to my house and seems to not be booked solid 24-7 which is a big plus for me since I always tend to book my hair cuts last minute.

So last evening our youth group did an American Idol singing competition thing.  We are going to do it once a month–one winner a month–and then the finalist compete on the final night.  We didn’t have a whole lot of people there. Some were sick, some were at work, some had a bunch of homework.  But it turned out to be lots of fun actually.  I hope we have more participants next time because I think if you got the right people singing and the right people listening, it would be a really, really good time.

So the girls ended up staying with MIL while we were at the church.  We had intended on taking them with us, even taking the laptop and movies for them to indulge in, but they offered to keep them.  So now I’m at work today and MIL usually comes at gets them on Wed afternoon and keeps them through church so now I won’t see my babies until tonight.  They were still asleep when I left this morning :(.  I do enjoy my “breaks” but I always miss them.

Scott and I are still trying to decide if one or both of us will go to the beach next month with the youth group.  It’s the “Top 15” from our youth group and it’s a really good group of kids and we get along well with the other chaperones going so I’d like to go.  I just have never left the girls for more than a night.  Which I’m sure they’d be fine and I sound like an anal mother but sometimes I get so scared I’m going to start getting my priorities out of order.  I realize I need to be working at the church but I don’t want the needs of the youth group/Sunday School to start outweighing my job as mother and wife.  Hopefully I’ll be sure to recognize that but that’s why I put so much effort into deciding on whether to do things with them.  I mean, is it right to have someone else watch my children so I can go spend the weekend with other people’s children?  I don’t know.  And they don’t really NEED chaperones.  Well, I still have a few weeks to decide so I’ll keep deciding until then.
