Winterjam 2007

March 20, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

We hadn’t really planned on it, but we went with the youth group on Sunday night to see the tour of Christian artists, Winterjam.  It included such as Steven Curtis Chapman, Jeremy Camp, Hawk Nelson, Sanctus Real, Britt Nichole and Newsong.  It was REALLY, REALLY loud.  As in I felt like my chest had turned into a bass drum.  And I stuffed napkins into my ears just to soften the blow.  But it was also really, really fun.  Everyone sounded really good and put on a great show.  It was their last show on the tour and everyone was playing pranks on each other during their sets and at the end, they were throwing water on each other and generally having a good time.  So it was fun to watch that comraderee.

Ridin a horsey

March 20, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

My whole life I have hated horses.  Well, not horses themselves, but riding horses.  It all started when I was about 7 when I road a pony at the old PTL and it pooped while I was riding it.  And then when I was in middle school we went to a camp thing with our GT class and this horse bucked up while another student was on it and while they didn’t get hurt, it scared me to death.  Then move on to youth camp…they had horses and they made me sit on one but didn’t make me ride it.  But just sitting up there I felt so FAR UP THERE and SO out of control.  I could not wait to get off.  So in high school when my family went on a trip to the mountains, I completely skipped the horse riding trip and stayed at the resort.  Nothing really terrible happened to me with a horse, but I had very little contact with them and I guess the unknown was scary.  So on to this past Sunday…

The girls were dropped off at Grandma’s, Scott wanted me to go with him to a guy’s house from church who was going to build him a bumper thing for his winch on the Land Rover.  I reluctantly gave up my Sunday nap and went.  Their house was really cool.  They had A LOT of family land that they sold to a developer that built a neighborhood (Jane, you may know Eppington South in FM).  Their driveway is in the neighborhood but you can’t see the house from the street and after doing down the driveway, it’s like going into an old country house.  Supposedly they are on about 22 acres of land.  It’s really nice.  So one of the first things I noticed is the little barn with the horse.  I thought of it because of Emma and her need to ride a horse.  So I’m talking to the guy’s wife about getting Emma over there and I happen to mention how scared I am of them and of course that means she’s going to make me get on the horse.  So I did.

I was actually really excited to get on the horse.  It is actually their 12 year old daughter’s horse and she assured me the Classy was a very tame horse and not to be scared.  So I wasn’t.  She led me around their field a couple times and then the Mrs. insisted I be allowed to take the reigns myself.  So I did.

I did it all by myself!  I actually made him go, made him turn, made him stop and even back up.  And I liked it!!  I’m so proud of myself.

Of course I told Emma and she is reminding me every. day. now that she wants to go ride a horse.  So probably will plan on that soon.  I want to go when their daughter is there.  Apparently the horse won’t do much without her.  And I want to go when Scott is off but he works this weekend so we’ll see.

Racket o’ Brackets

March 15, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Yes, it’s March Madness in the Carolinas and it’s craziness.  No one actually works this week..just stares at brackets all week.  So last year I filled out a bracket.  As a joke.  Because I do not ever and I mean never watch college basketball.  I did pretty good on the first round but that’s about it.  I filled out another one Monday for this year for the pool at work (although just for fun) and also was invited to Jane’s pool and guess what, ya’ll?? I’m tied for first place after 8 games.  I’m 8/8!  Woot!  I’m sure it will all slide downhill at some point but for now it’s kinda cool!

AI – Top 12

March 14, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Ya’ll.  Come on, when is this season going to get better?  I was very excited to be on the big stage last night for the Top 12.  Finally felt like AI again.  Those weeks from 24-12 were brutal.  So here’s what I think of those that I can remember:

Brandon: please go home.  you sing well, but not THAT well. you were unoriginal and you forgot your words, dude.

Melinda: you melted my heart, brought tears to my eyes.  YOU. ARE. AWESOME.

Blake: yikes.  kind of cool arrangement.  props for doing something original but the voice wasn’t good this time around.  too much emphasis on the music instead of the voice.

Chris S: not. good.  his voice was great, but he butchered that song.  i could barely tell what it was

Phil Stacey: decent.  middle of the pack though, nothing inspiring.

Chris Richardson: simon was right, horrendous voice tonight.  heather and i keep saying he sounded like a bad justin impersonator.

Lakisha: fantastic. what else can you say about her. she’s such a pro.

Gina: i really liked her.  good voice, good performance but she’s forgettable for some reason.

Stephanie: she did really well but i kept waiting for the tease to be over and the good part.  but it never came.  so a little let down although her voice and performance was actually good.

Jordin: wow. i’m impressed.  i literally rolled my eyes when she was sitting on stage hoping she wasn’t trying to do a fantasia thing. but it was really great.  not sure if i agree she’s on melinda’s level though.

Is that it?  I’m forgetting 2 people.

OH!  Sanjaya.  Ya’ll, what is up with him?  He sounded HORRIBLE.  My theory on him is that all the little girls like him..you know why?  Because of High School Musical.  He looks like one of those guys.  And you know how much 13 and 14 year olds LOVE that movie?  You know how much TIME 13 and 14 year olds have to do nothing but vote for 2 hours?  So, yeah, I don’t think he’s going anywhere, but please let’s hope he does.

And who else….

Oh!  Haley.  Yeah, so I really liked Haley last night.  You know, she was off pitch A LOT and she forgot words.  But you know, she finally sounded like she wasn’t on broadway and like she actually belonged in 2007.  So, you know, good for her.  She reminded me a good bit of Katharine McPhee last night in her look.

footloose-less

March 14, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So I ended up NOT going to see Footloose last night.  I was on the way to Pizza Hut to get dinner and I realize I keep complaining about being gone from home and here I was going to a high school play with a 18 year old for no good reason.  It was something I could give up.  And in the end, it was a good decision.  I got the house cleaned up, got to spend time with the family.  I opened the paper today to a picture of it and had a twinge of regret that I didn’t see it but I’m sure I would much more regret walking around a dirty house today and the guilt that I was gone ANOTHER evening.  I completely understand that I need time away from the kids.  But they were gone Friday night and part of Saturday, I literally been gone all day Sunday, all day Monday until 7pm and then today they were at school, and will be at MILs until almost 9pm tonight and tomorrow night I have to work overtime as well.  So I don’t know, it just seemed like too much.  Some days I just need time at home going nowhere.  And Scott was off so we were all together.  With his crazy schedule, we don’t get that on a regular basis.  I don’t know I keep trying to work out why I didn’t go to a high school play, so moving on….

work dinner

March 13, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

After-work deal last night was kinda boring.  The guy from out of town talked nonstop about Russia and alcohol.  I literally couldn’t get in a question the whole time.  So I stayed for about an hour and half and then left.

We went to Home Depot and Target last night.  Got a 9′ red umbrella for our back porch, which I happen to be sitting under at the moment in 80 degree weather.  It is fab.u.lous.  I’m so glad warm weather is coming back.  Not that it’s been terribly cold this winter but I love Spring and Summer.

Today I went to the gym during my lunch hour.  I actually felt pretty good about that time of the day.  There was hardly anyone there, I still had some energy yet I wasn’t dragging straight out of bed.

Tonight I think I’m going to see Footloose at my old high school with a couple girls from the youth group.  I hear these plays have gotten pretty fancy so we’ll see.

Scott’s shoulder

March 12, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So Scott went to the dr on Thursday.  His collarbone is still broken.  He cut down one of our trees in our front yard the Saturday before last and it made it pretty sore. The dr said if vigorous activity made it sore, then it would probably hurt for the rest of his life unless he got surgery.  So Scott said either do it right away or wait until the fall.  He is going to Turkey for his mission trip the day after Easter so they need to do it like yesterday.  He was supposed to hear something back about whether workman’s comp would wait until the fall but I don’t think they’ve called us back yet.  So it looks like Scott will be off work for another 2-3 months this year.

Magazine

March 12, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So I met with my editor friend and she showed me the layout of the magazine coming out.  The one of me by myself is on the front and two different ones of me and the girls are on the inside along with an article.  Should be coming out right around Easter so only a few more weeks!
