Seems like I was serious

July 26, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I wasn’t extremely serious about saying I was going to start weight watchers but I ended up doing it yesterday. St is on it and has lost 10 lbs in just one week. So Sh got me pumped up yesterday talking about it. Anyway, I was down over a pound this morning! Yipee! My hope is I only have to do this for a week or two and then maintain. This is what I ate yesterday:

Coffee for breakfast with sugar so I had to count that

A slice of 2% cheese for snack (if you can call it a snack)

Tuna sandwich for lunch

Ham sub from Subway for dinner with a 1/2 pack of light potato chips

Nature Valley trail mix bar for snack

Drank water all day

I can’t/don’t want to do that for the rest of my life but I can do that for a little while.

I think I’m giving up thinking of titles for these things.

L was here today which helped a bunch. The girls are really starting to get attached to her. Today Emma says L, I love you. Lexi got hurt last week sometime and I tried to console her and she said, I want L! Which is great! That means they are trusting her more and she can do her job better. Which means I can do my job better.

After work today I made it to the gym. I ended up only going once last week. But after hitting a new weight gain record this week (excluding pregnancies) I HAVE to get back into working out. And am thinking about doing Weight Watchers for a time. Scott lost 25 lbs on it and I’ve heard from countless people it works if you stick to it. I just have never even entertained the idea of an actual diet plan and I’m clueless. See, turning 29 is bad. Bad, bad, bad. I think my metabolism just knows I turn 30 next year and is preparing itself. I don’t think the birthday cake, candy bars, cookies and ice cream have ANYthing to do with it.

This evening we spent the entire evening at S&S’s house dealing with that drama I keep talking about. I’ll spill everything tomorrow on that. I definitely need to vent about it.

In case you couldn’t tell, I ended up seeing the movie Hairspray last night. After work, I cleaned up a little, made dinner and then left for Hairspray around 7 with J. Heather met us there. If you couldn’t tell from my little review, it was a fabulous movie. I will definitely want to buy that one when it comes out.

Tonight we have an emergency meeting with our youth council. ‘Member that drama I was talking about? Um yeah. It wasn’t quite what I thought was going to happen but drama is definitely brewing and I can’t go into details until after tomorrow night but suffice it to say I’m super bummed this week and the next few days or even weeks may not be any fun.

Hairspray

hairspray2.jpg*duplicated on another review site*

I have never seen a version of this movie..whether the original movie, on Broadway or even a high school play. Honestly, I was a little skeptical. But my sister who had seen it on Broadway this year insisted it would be great. I walked out of the theater saying, “I love that movie. That was a great movie.”
Nikki Blonsky was perfect for the role and she did a fabulous job. She hardly quit smiling or dancing the entire time and she just did such a great job.

John Travolta was hilarious as her mother. And hearing him say tired as “tard” or iron “ern” made me crack up every time.

hairspray3.jpgOne might have hardly recognized Zac Efron with the suits and slicked back hair. His blue eyes and inate charm pulled off the Elvis type role of Link to a tee.

Amanda Bynes was cute as could be and her physical humor always entertains me. Although my sister tells me Diana DeGarmo fulfilled the role better on Broadway.

Veterans Christopher Walken and Michelle Pfeiffer did a great job. Michelle had a very Cruella Deville vibe about her that went over well.

The storyline was great. The fluff of the dance show seemed to be grounded with the deep-rooted integration issues they dealt with.

hairspray.jpgMy only issue with this movie was that there were SO MANY songs. Yes, it was a musical but every time they turned around they were singing. And according to my sister, there were songs in it that were not in the original. The songs weren’t bad, in fact I enjoyed them. Just be prepared to hear a lot of singing. If you enjoyed movies like Grease or High School Musical, you will definitely like this. And even if you didn’t, give this one a try. You might be surprised.

Tammy Faye

July 23, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I was shocked last week to finally see Tammy Faye at 65 lbs. and then saddened to hear of her death this weekend. My family has a sort of history with the Bakkers.

We live in Fort Mill, SC home of the original PTL or Heritage USA, whichever you’d like to call it. My earliest memory of my childhood is actually from PTL.

When I was 3 and my sister is 1 my parents felt led to move to the South. They owned a 2 story house in Maryland and yet when they moved to Fort Mill, we moved literally into a pup tent on the campgrounds of PTL. We stayed there for 6 weeks and then other people on the campgrounds let us use their camper for a few weeks until we got into an apartment in Charlotte, NC. I still remember going with my mom to the public restrooms at the campground.

My dad got a job at PTL. He worked in the hotel and then in the “pyramind building” as a computer programmer on their systems. My dad worked there for several years, even after we moved back to Fort Mill to a house.

I remember going behind the hotel counter and up the stairs to my dad’s office.

I remember looking over the railing and into the open restaurant and seeing people eating there.

I remember swimming in the indoor pool at the hotel.

I remember shopping at the stores on the Main Street in the hotel.

I remember eating ice cream at the shop on the end of main street.

I remember eating at the cafeteria there.

I remember the water park and always being afraid of the largest slide.

I don’t think I ever went down that slide.

I remember the big cliff jump and the lazy river and the wave pool and the tube ride and the lemonade drinks and the snack stand behind the waterfall. I even remember the lockers.

I remember everything about that waterpark.

I remember the outdoor pool near the condos.

I remember seeing the Bakker show taped at the studio.

I remember the skating rink.

I remember the big Moose.

I remember the country store and shopping there.

I remember all the people. So many people went there. Especially at Christmas for the light show.

I remember being in line outside of PTL just trying to get to our house and there was a little side street you could go around to get past all the traffic.

I remember when Dad worked at the pyramid place and I pulled the fire alarm.

I remember seeing Dad changing tapes on the computer systems.

I remember drawing a picture of a house with windows and curtains while we visited my dad one day there.

I remember the tram and the train.

So many memories.

In fact, my first job was at the ice cream store on Main Street. Even after most things were shut down, the waterpark stayed open and I used to go there every afternoon after my second job at the real estate.

One time I met Tammy Sue at the hotel. I remember seeing Tammy Faye and Jim one day there. I even remember seeing Tammy Sue at our post office one day.

I had their records and I remember listening to the children’s songs.

I have lots of memories of PTL and the Bakker’s. And let me tell you, they’re good memories.

My parents shielded me from all the stuff that happened. I didn’t really understand all of it. But even now, as I understand what happened, I don’t harbor bad feelings for them. We all do things we’re not proud of. He just happened to be in the spotlight. I do wish him well and when I say I’m saddened by Tammy Faye’s death, I am. It’s like a part of my past is gone.

Rock of Love Bret Michaels

July 23, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I’m embarassed to say I’ve sat through two episodes of this show. This is like watching a train wreck. You see it on tv and your finger can not seem to press the up or down button to miss the wreckage. It’s awful. The girls are just, gosh, how do I not be mean??? Well, you’d just have to see for yourself I suppose. I’ve never been a loyal fan to Poison or Bret Michaels and in no way is he making it to my fake boyfriend list but I do find him attractive, he is surprisingly well-spoken, he’s very calm, cool and collected even when he’s uh, excited, or angry, and he’s quite a charming and funny guy.
