No Amy Tomorrow

October 30, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I’m headed to work in the morning.  Yes, I know, same ‘ol, same ‘ol for a lot of you.  And I work every day too but normally it’s in the comfort of my sunroom at home and tomorrow I’ll be headed up to the "big city" to the office to work.  And just last week my domain got put on the big no-no firewall list and I can’t view any of my site from the network.  So until about 5pm tomorrow, I will not have access to my site.  This will be a record I think  and I’m really not looking forward to it.  AT.  ALL.  Especially since I’m enjoying SO MANY of you commenting to enter my giveaway and I’m just lovin’ seeing it all come in and visiting your sites.  So, it’s almost 1AM and I am going to be TIRED tomorrow at work.  So Adios for now.

Drug store savings contemplation

October 30, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I’m starting to think I may need some serious addiction treatment from these store savings I’ve been getting.  I say that in jest but tonight I bought eye drops.  We’ve probably used eye drops like 3 times in this house since we’ve been married.  What was I doing?  A lot of people are really interested in how it works and are amazed and supportive of my savings but at the same time, a lot of people are very skeptical I think.  I think the big question is are you actually wasting time and money buying things you don’t need?

I had to think hard about this one.  It’s true. I bought eye drops tonight and I don’t know if I’ll use them.  But I got $4.99 in ECBs because of it.  Is that ok that I bought them and basically was given a rebate for them?  I don’t know.  It almost seems like a vicious circle.  Buy things you don’t need just so you can buy things you don’t need right?

Well, I started to add up what I’ve spent in the past 3 weeks or so I’ve been doing this and comparing it to the price of anything I bought that I would have normally  bought and it seems to me if I’ve spent the same or similar, then I’m doing well.  In the past few weeks, I would have had to buy more body wash, shampoo and conditioner, face wash and batteries.  I’ve gotten all of these things during the last 3 weeks from CVS or Walgreens.  Now before all of this, I would have NEVER used a coupon of any sort.  I would have just gone to Target to get what I needed.  And from my guess, that would have cost me around $25.  From what I can tell, I’ve spent out of pocket around $50.  That’s twice as much.  A pretty big gap.  But from what I can tell, I’ve brought home about $190 worth of stuff.   So my choices are spend $25 and get $25 worth of products or spend $50 and get $190 worth of products.  To me, I’d like to spend $50 and get $190 worth of stuff.  And 95% of all I’ve bought, I will use.  Jury’s still out on the eye drops.  (If you need eye drops, let me know and I’ll mail them to you.)

I really, honestly enjoy saving the money.  I can stop doing it at any time.  My "pantry" is stocked.  I don’t freak out and have to wash my face with shampoo because I forgot AGAIN to go buy more facial soap.  I’m able to donate things I wouldn’t have before.  And I honestly and truly get free stuff.  And the thing is I’ve spent more, but I’m stocked up for much longer than what I would have bought in the last 3 weeks so if I count the amount of money I will have to spend to keep us stocked up, I really think I’m doing well.

And you might not believe this but before when I felt the need to shop, I would load up the kids to Target and not walk out of there with less than $100 bill–ask Heather, she’ll tell you.  But now, I can walk in CVS, spend a few dollars and possibly make money and get the same feeling.  Is it healthy to have a shopping "need"?  I don’t know and probably not.  But this helps and it’s WAY cheaper.

I’ve just gone over and over it and with CVS especially, you either have to buy the ECB earners, roll the money to the next week and keep buying ECB earners or it doesn’t work.  Maybe one week you can get away with earning and get a little bit free the next week but to really rack up, you have to do it continuously.

So for now, I think I’m staying in.  I certainly don’t think I’ve wasted any money.  The very worst you can say is I’ve wasted $25.  And what’s that?  One Isaac Mizrahi shirt that doesn’t even fit right?

My jobs

October 29, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Google is not cooperating but I once heard that a person changes careers 7 times in their lifetime.  Maybe I’m way off on that because I have a lot of jobs left to do if that’s the case.  So far in my life, these are the jobs I’ve held.

  1. I worked a few times at a movie rental place but I was fired because I wouldn’t work the Christmas holiday.  Their loss. I could have been a fabulous DVD checker outer.
  2. I worked at a ice cream parlor.  I was named the Banana Split Queen and I still have a strong right arm from scooping the frozen ice cream.
  3. I worked for a realtor as an assistant.  I worked mainly on her flyers.  I also worked for the real estate as the secretary on Saturdays.  But I did everything from balancing her checkbook, getting her car washed, licking envelopes to making copies of contracts.
  4. I worked as an intern at a paper manufacturer.  I was a developer there.  Did some small stuff in Access but actually learned some top-notch object-oriented programming there.
  5. My first job out of college was a IT consultant as a developer and I’ve only had two contracts.  One for 6 months for a small shipping company that was based out of Lebanon and this one for 6 1/2 years for a large financial company.

So that’s it.  Five jobs total and two of them in the same field.  Wonder what else I’ll do…

The Hills October 29 2007

October 29, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Typing as I watch…here we go…

Go Whitney.  Great job on the location.  Beautiful.

Dress on reserve for Amy Astley?  Nice.

Spencer and Frankie – that was weird.  Go Frankie.  Tellin’ Spencer off.  That’s the way.

And once again, I disagree with Spencer.  He’s not friends with people who don’t get along with his friends. I give everyone a fair chance to be MY friend, no matter how they’ve treated people in the past.

The dresses.  So cute.

Oh boy. Whitney’s on her own but lucky Lauren gets to go meet a designer.  Nice.

Oh..no Marc…she’s styling models.

"We’re counting on you."  No pressure, Whit.

Wow, not going well.  No one likes anything.

Oh, she DOES get to meet Marc Jac0bs.  Hi, I’m alphabetizing.  That’s a new one.

"I miss Brody." aw

Brody, no, don’t answer Spencer’s call.

WHAT is Whitney wearing?

Oh, the results.  Meeting went well?  Good presentation?  The dress was dressy?  That’s their input?  Dress up more when you’re in LA?

IT’S BRODY!  He gets a hug!  There’s candles!  Spencer strikes again. Ruins the mood.  Too many pillows. Yes. Hug.  Yes.  Snuggling. Yes.  We’ll always be there for each other.  Yes.  Perfect ending. YES!

**Update.  I just reread that and that last paragraph sounded quite…orgasmic…not on purpose, people.  Ew.

The Bachelor October 29 2007

October 29, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

OK, has Brad lost his ever-lovin’ mind?  Did he forget Bettina’s family?  That was probably THE roughest family moment I’ve seen in all the seasons of The Bachelor.  I’ve never seen a family member just say I don’t like him, he’s a disappointment.  And YET, Brad keeps her.  Does he know he is marrying the family too?  Do people get that??  You MARRY THE FAMILY TOO!  okie dokie.

Jenny is still in the lead in Brad’s eyes as far as I can tell.  Even though the grandmother was a little tough, he seemed to take it well and actually did fit in.

Sheena’s mom was off her rocker but I thought overall the date went well. I was really, really surprised that he didn’t keep her in.  Poor thing was heartbroken but I guess Brad just wasn’t feeling it.

As for DeAnna, if this had been my first night seeing it, I would have had high marks for DeAnna but it still bothers me how she treated the other girls in the house.  He did seem to fit in well with her family–hey, they’re not shy with the alcohol are they?  I just don’t see her and Brad romantically though.

I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t choose Jenny.  Not sure if this is even much of a competition.

The real snapshots

October 29, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Scott broke out our Polaroid camera for I’m not sure what reason.  But one of the best pictures that has been taken of the two girls is here.  Perfectly smiling right at the camera…

Here are the rest of the pictures they took…some by Emma, some by Lexi and some by Scott.  Just a normal day here…Mommy at the computer working, kids running around and Scott playing with the dog.
